21 Chapter 4: Cnnecting the AC and the Pwer Optimizer t the Inverter This chapter describes hw t cnnect the inverter t the AC grid, and t the pwer ptimizer. Cnnecting the AC Grid t the Inverter The AC utput gland can fit an AC cable external gauge f PG21 (9-16mm diameter). The inverter is a single phase inverter; use a three-wire cable. The maximum wire size fr the input terminal blcks is 16mm². 1. Turn OFF the AC circuit breaker. WARNING! Turn OFF the AC befre cnnecting the AC terminals. If cnnecting equipment grunding wire, cnnect it befre cnnecting the AC Line and Neutral wires. 2. Open the inverter cver: Release the fur Allen screws and carefully mve the cver hrizntally befre lwering it. CAUTION! Chapter 4: Cnnecting the AC and the Pwer Optimizer t the Inverter When remving the cver, make sure nt t damage internal cmpnents. SlarEdge will nt be held respnsible fr any cmpnents damaged as a result f incautius cver remval. 3. Strip 58 mm / 2.32'' f the external cable insulatin and strip 8 mm / 0.32'' f the internal wire insulatin. Figure 11: Insulatin stripping AC (3-wire cable) 4. Tighten the AC cable gland with a trque f N*m / lb*ft. Cnnecting the Pwer Optimizer t the Inverter Cnnect the pwer ptimizer t the DC input pair. NOTE Functinal electrical earthing f DC-side negative r psitive ples is prhibited because the inverter has n transfrmer. Grunding (earth grund) f mdule frames and munting equipment f the PV array mdules is acceptable. Cnnect the DC utput cnnectrs f the pwer ptimizer t the DC+ and DC- cnnectrs accrding t the labels n the inverter. Figure 13: Inverter DC Cnnectins Selecting a Residual Current Device (RCD) IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE All SlarEdge inverters incrprate a certified internal Residual Current Device (RCD) in rder t prtect against pssible electrcutin and fire hazard in case f a malfunctin in the PV array, cables r inverter. There are 2 trip threshlds fr the RCD as required fr certificatin (DIN VDE ). The default value fr electrcutin prtectin is 30 ma, and fr slw rising current is 300 ma. If an external RCD is required by lcal regulatins, check which type f RCD is required fr the relevant electric cde. Install the residual-current device (RCD) in accrdance with the applicable lcal standards and directives. SlarEdge recmmends using a type-a RCD. The recmmended RCD value is 100 ma r 300 ma unless a lwer value is required by the specific lcal electric cdes. When required by lcal regulatins, the use f an RCD type B is permitted. NOTE Fr multiple inverters, an RCD per inverter is required. 21

23 Chapter 4: Cnnecting the AC and the Pwer Optimizer t the Inverter In installatins where the lcal electric cde requires an RCD with a lwer leakage setting, the discharge current might result in nuisance tripping f the external RCD. The fllwing steps are recmmended t avid nuisance tripping f the external RCD: Select the apprpriate RCD fr crrect peratin f the installatin: An RCD with a rating f 30 ma may actually trip at a leakage as lw as 15 ma (accrding t IEC 61008). High quality RCDs will typically trip at a value clser t their rating. Cnfigure the trip vltage f the inverter's internal RCD t a lwer value than the trip current f the external RCD. The internal RCD will trip if the current is higher than the allwed current, but because the internal inverter RCD autmatically resets when the residual currents are lw it saves the manual reset. Fr detailed infrmatin, refer t the RCD Selectin fr SlarEdge Inverters Applicatin Nte, available n the SlarEdge website at 22

24 Chapter 5: Cmmissining the Installatin - Inverter Basic Versin Chapter 5: Cmmissining the Installatin - Inverter Basic Versin This chapter describes hw t activate the system and pair the pwer ptimizer t the inverter in the inverter basic versin. Step 1: Setting the Cuntry Cuntry setting is dne using 8 DIP-switches. 1. Verify that the inverter ON/OFF/P switch is OFF. 2. If nt already remved, remve the inverter cver: Open the inverter cver s fur Allen screws and carefully pull the cver hrizntally befre lwering it. WARNING! ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD. D nt tuch uninsulated wires when the inverter cver is remved. 3. Open the DIP Switch cver using a flat blade screwdriver. Figure 14: DIP switches in the inverter 4. Set up the cunty DIP switches accrding t the cuntry list supplied with yur inverter (refer t in_se_cmpact_residential_slutin basic versin.pdf). 5. Clse the inverter cver by tightening the screws with a trque f 3.0 N*m/ 2.2 lb*ft. 23

25 Step 2: Pairing Pwer Optimizers t the Inverter Once all cnnectins are made, all the pwer ptimizers must be lgically paired t their inverter. The pwer ptimizers d nt start prducing pwer until they are paired. This step describes hw t assign each inverter t the pwer ptimizers frm which it will prduce pwer. Perfrm this step when the mdules are expsed t sunlight. If the pwer ptimizer is replaced, repeat the pairing prcess. T initiate pairing: 1. Mve the inverter ON/OFF/P switch t ON. The green LED is blinking. 2. Mve the ON/OFF/P switch t the P psitin, hld fr mre than 10 secnds, and release. The pairing prcess starts. The blue LED turns ON fr 3 secnds after the pwer ptimizer is paired. 3. Wait fr the cmpletin f the pairing: the green inverter LED is steadily lit. If pairing fails, the green and red LEDs will cntinuusly blink in alternating pattern until pairing is restarted. The system startup prcess begins: Since the inverter is ON, the pwer ptimizers start prducing pwer and the inverter starts cnverting AC. WARNING!
