This unit must be perated under the specified perating cnditins as described in the technical specificatins supplied with the unit. NOTE The battery used must be NRTL certified. NOTE Fr battery decmmissining and dispsal, fllw the manufacturer requirements and instructins. NOTE The StrEdge Interface is IP65 rated. Unused cnnectrs and glands shuld be sealed with the prvided seals. NOTE The symbl appears at grunding pints n the SlarEdge equipment. 6 Chapter 1: Overview SlarEdge s StrEdge slutin fr Smart Energy Management uses the StrEdge Interface t cnnect the battery t the inverter. Pwer is stred in the battery and can be used fr varius applicatins such as maximized selfcnsumptin and time f use prfile prgramming. Fr backup pwer, an inverter specifically designed fr backup applicatins is required; this inverter is nt in the scpe f this dcument. The StrEdge Slutin Cmpnents The SlarEdge Inverter The SlarEdge Meter - The meter is used by the inverter fr exprt/ cnsumptin readings, and fr Smart Energy Management applicatins, such as: exprt limitatin and maximizing self-cnsumptin. The StrEdge Interface - The StrEdge Interface cnnects the battery t the inverter thrugh fuses, and supplies cntrl and mnitring signals t the battery fr peratin. One battery - DC cupled batteries designed t wrk with the SlarEdge system. Chapter 1: Overview NOTE Figure 1: StrEdge system cmpnents Additinal SlarEdge inverters (withut batteries) can be cnnected with RS485. The inverters will participate in exprt limitatin and Smart Energy Management. Cnnecting multiple inverters with RS485 master-slave cnnectin may require an RS485 Expansin Kit (available frm SlarEdge). 7 Installatin Wrkflw Installatin Wrkflw When installing the StrEdge system, fllw this wrkflw t ensure all the cmpnents are cnnected and functining crrectly. Plan the StrEdge system layut: The battery and StrEdge Interface will cnnect t the DC side f the inverter. Since the inverter DC cnnectins are n its left side, it is recmmended t psitin the battery and interface t the left f the inverter t simplify wiring. T simplify cable management, a minimum distance f 1.5m between battery and interface is recmmended. Figure 2: System Layut Step 1 - PV system installatin - mdules, pwer ptimizers and inverter(s). Refer t the fllwing chapters f the SlarEdge Installatin Guide supplied with the inverter and available at Installing the Pwer Optimizers (if applicable) Installing the Inverter Cnnecting the AC and the Strings t the Inverter Activating the inverter- as described in the Cmmissining chapter f the SlarEdge Installatin Guide, using the activatin card supplied with the inverter. Upgrading the inverter firmware versin, using the upgrade card supplied with the StrEdge Interface. Pairing the system - as described in the Cmmissining chapter f the SlarEdge Installatin Guide Setting Up Cmmunicatin Step 2 - Electricity Meter installatin (required fr Smart Energy Management). Refer t Meter Installatin n page 8. Step 3 - StrEdge Interface installatin and cnnectin as described in StrEdge Interface Installatin n page 10. Step 4 - Cnnect the battery t the StrEdge Interface and munt the battery. Refer t the installatin infrmatin in the manufacturer dcumentatin, and t Cnnecting the StrEdge Interface t the Battery Pack n page 14. 8 Installatin Equipment List Standard tls can be used during the installatin f the SlarEdge system. 9 Chapter 2: Meter Installatin Chapter 2: Meter Installatin The StrEdge slutin requires cnnecting a meter fr Smart Energy Management applicatins, such as exprt limitatin and maximizing self-cnsumptin. The meter type (single r three phase) and number f current transfrmers (CTs) shuld be selected per the grid cnnectin and energy management applicatin rather than accrding t the inverter mdel. The CTs are supplied with 2m twisted pair wires fr cnnecting the CTs. T install the SlarEdge meter, refer t the installatin guide supplied with it: The meter is cnnected t the inverter using RS485. RS485 wiring specificatins: Cable type: Min. 3-wire shielded twisted pair (a shielded Ethernet cable (Cat5/5E STP) may be used) Wire crss-sectin area: mm²/ AWG (a CAT5 cable may be used) NOTE The inverter RS485 bus shuld be cnnected t the battery (via the StrEdge interface) and meter. Cnnecting multiple inverters (r an external lgger) with RS485 master-slave cnnectin may require an RS485 Expansin Kit (available frm SlarEdge; Refer t kit_installatin_guide.pdf). T cnnect the meter t the inverter: 1. Remve the seal frm ne f the penings in cmmunicatin gland at the bttm f the inverter and insert the RS485 wires frm the meter thrugh the pening. 10 Chapter 2: Meter Installatin 3. Cnnect the wires as illustrated belw: Figure 5: Meter RS485 cnnectins 4. Terminate the last device in the RS485 chain (see als DIP Switch Setup n page 17): l If the inverter is at the end f the RS485 bus, switch a terminatin DIP-switch inside the inverter t ON (tp psitin). The switch is lcated n the cmmunicatin bard as fllws: Figure 6: RS485 terminatin switch l If the meter is at the end f the RS485 chain and has a terminatin switch, it shuld be terminated using its DIP switches (see als DIP Switch Setup n page 17). -StrEdge Interface Installatin Guide MAN

11 Chapter 3: StrEdge Interface Installatin Chapter 3: StrEdge Interface Installatin Unpacking and Identifying the Prduct An identificatin label with prduct specificatins is attached t each device. Check the equipment fr damage befre starting installatin: There are n lse parts. All parts are either munted r lcated in the accessry kit. If any damage is fund, dcument the damage, and cntact SlarEdge. Munting the StrEdge Interface 1. Determine the StrEdge Interface munting lcatin, n a wall r ple, as fllws: Maximum distance frm the battery: 5m (15 ft) Maximum distance frm the inverter: 100m (328 ft) Maintain a minimum 20 cm (8 ) clearance between the StrEdge Interface and ther bjects. Figure 7: StrEdge Interface clearance 2. Install the bracket with the semi-circles facing dwn, as shwn belw. Verify that the bracket is firmly attached t the munting surface. Figure 8: Munting bracket 3. Install the interface: Attach the StrEdge interface back brackets t the munted bracket using the fur supplied screws. Tighten the screws with a trque f 9 N*m / 6.6 lb*ft. Prepare ne pair f DC cables with MC4 cnnectrs at bth ends - male at ne end and female at the ther end. 2. Cnnect ne end f the cables t the inverter, and cnnect the ther end t the DC+ and DC- input cnnectrs marked INV OUT. NOTE If all the inverter DC inputs are cnnected t PV strings, use a branch cable (available frm SlarEdge) t cnnect the StrEdge Interface t the inverter DC input. T cnnect RS485 cmmunicatin between the inverter and StrEdge Interface: RS485 wiring specificatins: Cable type: Min. 3-wire shielded twisted pair (a shielded Ethernet cable (Cat5/5e STP) may be used) Wire crss-sectin area: mm²/ AWG (a CAT5 cable may be used) 1. Cnnect ne end t the RS485 terminal blck marked "RS485 t Inv." in the StrEdge Interface (see Figure 11): a. Open gland #2. b. 13 Cnnecting the StrEdge Interface t the Inverter c. Cnnect the wire ends in the A, B and G pins (use a twisted pair fr A and B): Use a flat blade screwdriver t press the prtrusin at the tp f the terminal blck and pen the cnnectin hle; insert the wire and release t spring back and clamp the wire. Figure 11: RS485 cnnectr in the StrEdge Interface Yu can use any clr wire fr each f the A, B and G cnnectins, as lng as the same clr wire is used fr bth A pins (inverter and StrEdge Interface, the same clr fr bth B pins and the same clr fr bth G pins. 2. Cnnect the ther end f the cmmunicatin cable t the inverter cmmunicatin bard: NOTE The wires frm the meter and frm the StrEdge Interface are inserted int the same pins in the inverter RS485 terminal blck. Make sure that the meter wires are nt discnnected when inserting the Interface wires. a. Open the inverter cver as described in its manual. b. Remve the seal frm ne f the penings in the cmmunicatin gland and insert the wire thrugh the pening. Figure 12: Inverter Cmmunicatin glands c. 15 Cnnecting the StrEdge Interface t AC Cnnecting the StrEdge Interface t AC NOTE The AC is used fr auxiliary pwer nly and des nt carry high pwer. Use a three-wire cable with a crss sectin f 1-2mm 2. T cnnect t AC: 1. Turn OFF the AC pwer surce t be cnnected t the interface. 2. Remve the interface AC sealing gland. 3. Strip ff 5/16" (8mm) f the AC cable insulatin and expse tw line wires and ne grunding wire. 4. Insert the wire ends int the AC terminals (L, N), and the grunding terminal accrding t the labels. 16 Fllw these guidelines: Fr easy access t battery cnnectrs, it is recmmended t cnnect the cables t the battery and t set all the battery DIP switches t their crrect psitins while the battery is still n the grund, befre munting the battery accrding t the manufacturer instructins). The fllwing prcedure is recmmended: a. Cnnect all the wires t the battery cnnectin panel b. Munt the battery c. Cnnect t the StrEdge Interface. Measure the necessary length between the StrEdge Interface and the battery fr all cables. Tie and wrap the cables t avid pulling them ut during munting. Chapter 3: StrEdge Interface Installatin Be sure t adhere t all safety cautins and infrmatin in the battery dcumentatin. The fllwing table, Figure 20 detail cable types and cnnectins f the StrEdge Interface ne with 2 DIP switches t ne battery (LG-chem RESU7H/RESU10H). 17 Cnnecting the StrEdge Interface t the Battery Pack T cnnect the battery pack and the StrEdge Interface: 1. Prepare cables and cnnect as described in the fllwing table; Pay attentin t the wire clrs (see Figure 20): Recmmended cable type (min-max crss sectin) StrEdge Interface cnnectin LG Chem RESU7H/RESU10H battery cnnectin (Figure 16 Cnnectin methd in StrEdge Interface BAT DC + DC+ MC4 cnnectin BAT DC - DC- MC4 cnnectin DC One pair f PV DC cables with a crss sectin f 6 (4-6)mm2, 600V insulated, with MC4 cnnectrs at ne end. Cntrl and mnitring 5-pin cmmunicatin terminal blck: 5-wire shielded twisted pair cable with a crss sectin f 0.2 ( ) mm2. 18 DIP Switch Setup Verify that the DIP switches n the system cmpnents are set as described in this sectin, accrding t the system hardware cnfiguratin. This sectin prvides infrmatin abutlg Chem RESU7H / RESU10 batteries. Terminatin and bias guidelines: The last battery in the RS485 chain shuld have terminatin and bias. Chapter 3: StrEdge Interface Installatin The last meter in the RS485 chain shuld be terminated with 120 Ohm (either internal r external). Inverter cmmunicatin bard shuld nt have terminatin if meter is installed, therwise ON. 21 Chapter 4: System Cnfiguratin Chapter 4: System Cnfiguratin This chapter describes hw t cnfigure yur StrEdge system by setting up the cmmunicatin between the system cmpnents and setting up the required applicatin. T use the StrEdge applicatins, the inverter cmmunicatin bard firmware (CPU) versin must be 3.xxxx and later. The latest firmware versin is available fr dwnlad at Upgrading the Inverter Firmware Versin Upgrade the inverter firmware using a MicrSD card with the latest firmware versin dwnladed frm the abve link. T upgrade the inverter firmware: 1. Make sure that: The inverter has been activated using the activatin card supplied with the inverter The inverter ON/OFF switch is OFF The AC vltage t the inverter is OFF If applicable - the StrEdge Interface ON/OFF switch is OFF. 2. Remve the inverter cver. 3. Insert the card int the cmmunicatin bard slt marked CARD. Figure 21: Inserting the upgrade card 4. Turn ON the battery AUX switch and circuit breaker. Wait 1 minute befre prceeding. 5. Turn ON: AC t the StrEdge Interface AC t the inverter WARNING! ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD. D nt tuch uninsulated wires when the cver is remved. 6. Turn ON AC t the inverter. WARNING! ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD. D nt tuch uninsulated wires when the cver is remved. 7. The upgrade starts autmatically. 22 Chapter 4: System Cnfiguratin Cnfiguring the RS485 Bus fr Battery and Meter Cnnectin This sectin describes hw t set up the RS485 cmmunicatin between the inverter, meter, StrEdge Interface, and ne battery. T cnfigure the RS485 bus: 1. Turn the inverter ON/OFF switch t OFF. 2. Select Cmmunicatin è RS485-1 Cnf è Device Type è Multi Devices. A list f devices is displayed.
