7 Abut This Guide Abut This Guide This user guide is intended fr Phtvltaic (PV) system wners, installers, technicians, maintainers and integratrs wh use the SlarEdge pwer harvesting system. This guide describes the prcess f installing and cnfiguring the SlarEdge Data Lgger, an enclsed Cntrl and Cmmunicatin Gateway. This guide assumes that the SlarEdge pwer harvesting system is already installed and cmmissined. 8 Chapter 1: Intrducing the SlarEdge Data Lgger Overview The SlarEdge Data Lgger is an enclsed Cntrl and Cmmunicatin Gateway that can be cnnected t SlarEdge and nn-slaredge devices, and can transfer the mnitring data t the SlarEdge mnitring platfrm and ptinally, t a nn-slaredge lgger. The Data Lgger can cnnect t the fllwing devices1: SlarEdge devices, such as inverters Envirnmental sensrs Revenue grade meters Pwer cntrl devices Lggers Chapter 1: Intrducing the SlarEdge Data Lgger NOTE Sensrs and meters are available frm SlarEdge and are sld separately. External Interfaces l l l Cmmunicatins glands: used t thread cmmunicatins cables int the Data Lgger enclsure Drill guide fr AC: used t feed the Data Lgger pwer supply as described in Cnnecting the SlarEdge Data Lgger t AC n page 14. The AC pwer cable is threaded thrugh the designated drill guide, as shwn in Figure 3. The LCD panel and buttns are used during the fllwing prcesses: Operatinal mde: The LCD panel allws checking fr prper system peratin. Refer t Status Screens - Operatinal Mde n page 34 fr a descriptin f this ptin. Setup mde: Upn installatin, an installer may perfrm basic cnfiguratin as described in Cnfiguratin Menu Optins n page 38. Errr messages: In the event f a prblem, an errr message may be displayed n the LCD panel. Fr mre infrmatin, refer t Errrs and Trubleshting n page 52. Use the fur user buttns t cntrl the LCD panel menus: Esc: Mves the cursr (>) t the beginning f the currently displayed parameter; ges t the previus menu, and cancels a value change with a lng press (until Abrted is displayed). Up (1) and Dwn (2): Mves the cursr frm ne menu ptin t anther, mves amng the characters f a displayed parameter, and tggles between pssible characters when setting a value. Enter (3): Selects a menu ptin and accepts a value change with a lng press (until Applied is displayed). Use the three rightmst buttns fr entering the digits 123 when entering the Setup mde passwrd Cmmunicatin Cnnectrs Antenna1: used fr ptinal ZigBee antenna cnnectin. Antenna2: used fr ptinal GSM antenna cnnectin. 9

11 LEDs RS485-1 and RS485-2: used fr cnnecting external devices t the Data Lgger (refer t Cnnecting the SlarEdge Data Lgger t the SlarEdge Installatin n page 17) and inverters. Ethernet: Enables cnnecting the SlarEdge Data Lgger t the SlarEdge mnitring platfrm thrugh an Ethernet switch/ruter (refer t Creating an Ethernet (LAN) Cnnectin n page 43). The Ethernet switch/ruter shuld be cnnected t the Internet. LEDs The Data Lgger has three LED indicatrs, as fllws: OK (Green): Indicates whether r nt the SlarEdge Data Lgger is pwered. Cmm (Cmmunicatin, Yellw): Blinks when mnitring infrmatin is received frm anther SlarEdge device in the installatin. Fault (Red): Indicates that there is an errr. Fr mre infrmatin, cntact SlarEdge supprt. All LEDs are ON while the Data Lgger is being cnfigured and during pwer up. Other Interfaces DC: DC utput frm the pwer supply. AC pwer is cnverted by the pwer supply t DC fr the internal cmpnents Sensrs: enables cnnecting t external envirnmental sensrs (refer t Cnnecting Envirnmental Sensrs (Optinal) n page 24). Cntrl: used fr cnnectin t an external pwer reducer device DIP Switches SW1/SW2: used t cnfigure RS485-1/2 terminatin Micr SD: used fr field sftware upgrade 10

12 Chapter 2: Installing the Data Lgger Transprt and Strage Transprt the SlarEdge Data Lgger in its riginal packaging, withut expsing it t unnecessary shcks. If the riginal package is n lnger available, use a similar bx that can be clsed fully. Stre the SlarEdge Data Lgger in a dry place where ambient temperatures are -40 C (-40 F) t +60 C (140 F). Package Cntents Data Lgger Accessry kit including: Three 3-pin terminal blcks One 7-pin terminal blck One 6-pin terminal blck Installatin Equipment Standard tls can be used during the installatin f the SlarEdge Data Lgger. The fllwing is a recmmendatin f the equipment needed fr installatin: Drill and 5/32 inch diameter bits Three-wire twisted cable r fur-wire twisted pair cable Fr ptinal Ethernet cmmunicatins: CAT5/6 cable Installatin Guidelines The Data Lgger is cnsidered permanently cnnected equipment and requires a discnnect means (circuit breaker, switch, r discnnect) and vercurrent prtectin (fuse r circuit breaker). The Data Lgger draws ma, therefre the rating f any switches, discnnects, fuses, and/ r circuit breakers is determined by the wire gauge, the mains vltage, and the current interrupting rating required. The switch, discnnect, r circuit breaker must be lcated near the meter and be easily perated. Use circuit breakers r fuses rated fr 20A r less. Use gruped circuit breakers when mnitring mre than ne line. The circuit breakers r fuses must prtect the mains terminals labeled L1, L2, and L3. In the rare cases where neutral has vercurrent prtectin, the vercurrent prtectin device must interrupt bth neutral and the ungrunded cnductrs simultaneusly. The circuit prtectin / discnnect system must meet all natinal and lcal electrical cdes. The Data Lgger pwer supply requires a grid vltage f Vac (50/60Hz). Prtect the Data Lgger frm dust, wet cnditins, crrsive substances and vaprs. Cable specificatins: Chapter 2: Installing the Data Lgger 11

Fr details refer t: prtectin.pdf. If grunded metal cnduit are used fr ruting the cmmunicatin wires, there is n need fr a lightning prtectin device. Cmmunicatin Glands Tw cmmunicatin glands are used fr cnnectin f the varius cmmunicatin ptins. Each gland has three penings. The table belw describes the functinality f each pening. Unused penings shuld remain sealed. Gland Type 2 Glands: PG13.5 (M20x1.5) 3 penings per gland, diameter mm Supprted Cable Types RS485, Ethernet (CAT5/6), Sensrs Opening Cnduit Drill Guides This step may be perfrmed befre r after munting the Data Lgger. T pen cnduit drill guides: 1. Lsen the 4 Allen screws f the Data Lgger enclsure and remve the cver. Figure 5: Data Lgger frnt view withut cver 12

14 2. Open the required cnduit drill guides accrding t the cnduits used in the installatin: The drill guides are lcated at the bttm, back and sides f the enclsure, each with tw sizes: ¾'' and 1''. Open the required drill guides, taking care nt t interfere with any f the internal cmpnents. A Unibit drill may be used. WARNING Chapter 2: Installing the Data Lgger Use nly drill guides lcated at the bttm, back and sides f the enclsure. Opening the tp drill guides may damage the prtectin rating f the enclsure, and will vid the prduct warranty. Unused cnduit penings and glands shuld be sealed with apprpriate seals. Utilisez uniquement les guides de perçage situes en dessus, derrière et sur les côtes de l'enceinte. 15 Munting the Data Lgger Step 5: "LCD Status Screens and Setup Optins" n page 34 Step 6: "Setting Up Mnitring thrugh the Data Lgger (Optinal)" n page 42 Munting the Data Lgger Munt the Data Lgger n a wall r ple using the supplied bracket. The Data Lgger is shuld be munted vertically, with the glands facing dwnward. T munt the Data Lgger: 1. Install the bracket with the semi-circles facing dwnward, as shwn belw. Verify that the bracket is firmly attached t the munting surface. Figure 7: Munting bracket 2. Open ne r mre cnduit drill guides as required by the installatin. See "Opening Cnduit Drill Guides" n page Munt the Data Lgger: Attach the Data Lgger enclsure's back brackets t the munted bracket using the fur supplied screws. Tighten the screws with a trque f 9 N*m / 6.6 lb*ft. Cnnecting the SlarEdge Data Lgger t AC NOTE The cnduits, hubs and fittings must be suited fr field wiring systems. The hubs and ther fittings must cmply with UL514B. Use nly cpper cnductrs rated fr a minimum f 75 C. Use the cnduit and wiring apprpriate fr the installatin lcatin per the NEC. Outdr installatins must use cmpnents that are rated NEMA 3R r higher. Fr mre wiring infrmatin refer t the SlarEdge Recmmended AC Wiring Applicatin Nte, available n the SlarEdge website at T cnnect the Data Lgger t AC 1. Discnnect the AC t the Data Lgger by turning OFF the circuit breakers n the distributin panel. 2. Strip ff 5/16" (8mm) f the AC cable insulatin and expse the L (red), N (blue) and G (green) wires. 3. Thread the AC cable int the Data Lgger via the pen AC wiring drill guide. 14

18 Chapter 3: Cnnecting the SlarEdge Data Lgger t the SlarEdge Installatin Overview Chapter 3: Cnnecting the SlarEdge Data Lgger t the SlarEdge Installatin The SlarEdge Data Lgger cnnects t the PV system installatin using the RS485 cmmunicatin ptin. The RS485 ptin enables creating a chain (bus) f up t 31 slave SlarEdge devices, cnnected t ne master, which can be anther SlarEdge device r the SlarEdge Data Lgger. The fllwing is an example f a master Data Lgger cnnected t a chain f slave inverters. Figure 11: Example f RS485 cnnectin The fllwing sectins describe hw t cnnect the RS485 bus and hw t cnfigure its cmpnents. Creating an RS485 Bus Cnnectin The RS485 bus uses a three-wire cable cnnecting the RS485-1/2 terminal blcks n the SlarEdge Data Lgger t the RS485 input f the inverters. T cnnect the RS485 cmmunicatin bus between inverters and the SlarEdge Data Lgger: 1. Thread the RS485 cable thrugh ne f the Data Lgger's cmmunicatin glands. 2. Use ne f the supplied 3-pin terminal blcks: Lsen the screws and insert the wire ends int the A, B and G pins. Fr cnnectins lnger than 10 meters, use twisted-pair A and B wires. Figure 12: 3-pin terminal blck 3. Cnnect the 3-pin terminal blck t the designated RS485-1 prt n the Data Lgger. 17

19 Creating an RS485 Bus Cnnectin 4. If the Data Lgger is at the end f the RS485 chain, terminate the Data Lgger by switching a terminatin DIP switch t ON. The switches in the SlarEdge Data Lgger are marked SW1 fr the RS485-1 prt terminatin and SW2 fr the RS485-2 prt terminatin, as shwn belw: Figure 13: Data Lgger RS485 cnnectrs and terminatin switches 5. Open the inverter cver as described in its manual. 6. Remve the seal frm ne f the penings in cmmunicatin gland #2 f the inverter and insert the cable thrugh the pening. 7. Pull ut the 9-pin RS485 terminal blck cnnectr, as shwn belw: Figure 14: The RS485 terminal blck in the inverter 18

Fr inverter: Use the RS485-1 pins (left-mst) Figure 15: RS485 terminal blck 9. Insert the wire ends int the B, A and G pins shwn abve. Yu can use any clr wire fr each f the B, A and G cnnectins, as lng as the same clr wire is used fr all A pins, the same clr fr all B pins and the same clr fr all G pins. 10.
