4 System Requirements The system requirements fr PlanetPress Suite 5 are as fllws. Nte that RAM and hard disk requirements are in additin t thse required by the system. Intel Pentium GHz r higher Windws 2000 with SP4, Windws XP, r Micrsft Windws Server megabytes f RAM (1 gigabyte recmmended) 500 megabytes f available hard disk space 1024 x 768 clr mnitr with a 16-bit clr r greater graphics card (1024x768 recmmended) Adbe Acrbat r Acrbat Reader 5.0 r higher PlanetPress Search requires Micrsft Access r SQL Server database versin 8.0 r higher Additinal requirements fr Windws 2000 with SP2: - Internet Explrer 5.0 r higher - MDAC 2.5 with SP3 r higher - JET 4.0 r higher Imprtant Cnsideratins The purpse f this dcument is t utline upgrade cnsideratins and prvide the reader with an upgrade strategy fr PlanetPress Suite 5. The fllwing is a list f things t cnsider befre perfrming an upgrade t PlanetPress Suite 5: Versin 3 and versin 5 can cexist n the same wrkstatin if yu need. An upgrade can nly be applied n a system that already has a Versin 3 r Versin 4 applicatin installed. Befre yu begin the upgrade t PlanetPress Suite versin 5, lcate the serial number fr yur current PlanetPress Suite installatin. PlanetPress Suite serial numbers can be fund by; - Chsing Help Abut frm the main applicatin windw f PlanetPress, PlanetPress Watch and PlanetPress Search. - Clicking the Abut buttn in the PlanetPress Image and PlanetPress Fax Cnfiguratin Windws. Once yu have the previus versins serial number, lcate the matching upgrade serial number, cntained n the labels prvided in yur upgrade package. The numeric prtin f the serial number (middle prtin) must match in rder t successfully upgrade a previus versin. Fr example, t upgrade a PlanetPress Versin 3 r Versin 4 wrkstatin installed with serial number AB00P , yu must install Versin 5 using the upgrade serial number BC01P Once the installatin f yur upgrade is cmplete, all activatin cdes (sftware and

5 printer) will be updated t Versin 5 and n further activatins are required. New Installatin. If yu wish t transfer yur license t a new wrkstatin, yu may install the Versin 5 sftware n the new wrkstatin using the upgrade t Versin 5 serial numbers. Nte that yur activatin cdes will nt be updated and yu will need t request new activatin cdes fr yur sftware and add the printer activatin cdes in yur PlanetPress and PlanetPress Watch. Upgrades cannt be activated using ur autmated Activatin Manager. Please submit yur activatin request thrugh ur website (link belw) r cntact yur lcal Custmer Care Department and make sure t indicate that yu are installing the upgrade n a new wrkstatin: Make sure the PC yu are abut t install PlanetPress Suite 5 n meets the minimum system requirements assciated with the versin. Fr example, versin 5 cannt be installed n a cmputer running Windws NT 4. (See System Requirements n page 4) Partial upgrades are nt supprted. Althugh the installatin utility allws yu t install each cmpnent individually, yu must upgrade all cmpnents at nce. Fr example, we d nt suggest installing versin 5 f PlanetPress (design tl), but keeping versin 4 f all the ther cmpnents f the suite. Althugh it is nt necessary t cnvert all f yur dcuments when upgrading frm ne versin t anther since they can be used in whatever frmat they are currently in (i.e..ps,.psi,.psf and.ptk), we strngly recmmend cnverting them t versin 5 and re-sending them t PlanetPress Watch. Versin 3 is n lnger supprted. We recmmend that yur dcuments be maintained in a supprted frmat. Install PlanetPress Suite while lgged n t the PC as Administratr. Cnfigure the services with yur user accunt that yu assciated with the previus installatin. Remember t cnsider the fllwing tw factrs when selecting an accunt: 1. Yur accunt must have equal r greater rights/permissins than the accunt being used by the persn respnsible fr creating prcesses. 2. Yur accunt must be granted the Lg On As A Service right.

6 Knwn Issues Plugin Prcess Tggle included in v3 is nt available anymre in v4 & v5. If yu need t synchrnize multiple prcesses, yu can nw create many inputs within a same prcess. Sme passthrugh cmmands may nt be cnverted in v4 &v5 due t sme nmenclature change in the way PlanetPress handles PstScript. Fr example, passthrugh cmmands referring t glbal variables will nt wrk in newer versins

7 Prcedure t imprt dcuments frm V3 t V5 Steps t imprt yur dcuments in PlanetPress V5 1) Install PlanetPress V5 2) Open PlanetPress V5 3) Make sure PlanetPress Talk Messages windw is pened at the bttm (Press Shift+Ctrl+M t pen it) The Planet Press Talk Messages windw will allw yu t see errrs r cncerns raised while imprting yur v3 dcuments in v5. There are 3 types f messages yu will see in this windw: 1-Messages Yu will mst likely see a lt f this type f messages. This is due t a new naming cnventin fr all bjects in PlanetPress 5 s that all bjects cntained in ne frm must then be renamed. Yu will mst likely get a lt f thse. Yu dn t have t wrry t much abut them as they dn t affect yur dcument. 2-Warnings These messages will be shwn in red (depending n the user ptins settings, it culd be anther clr) with an errr cde and a descriptin. Their purpse is t raise cncerns n what culd nt wrk in yur frm. They are smething t lk int if yu encunter prblem with the imprted frm. Here are the mst cmmn warnings yu will get: - Passthrugh errrs: In earlier versins, PlanetPress was smetimes using PS cde directly t trigger special printer features. In versin 5, we suggest using the User Interface since all special printer features are available in the user interface and frm the PPD fr the crrespnding printer. Nte that the PS cde yu use in versin 3 f yur dcument is imprted and will be used unless yu mdify yur frm. - Fnt Errrs: The fnt used in yur dcument was nt fund nt the PC yu are using. Yu have t make sure that the True Type fnts yu are using are always installed n the PC yu use. - ExecPage: If yu use a RunPage, yu might get an ExecPage errr because the name f the page yu are calling has been mdified but the cde was nt. Verify that everything crrespnds t what yu want t d with yur frm. 3-Errr If yu d get errr messages in the imprt prcess, make sure t reslve them ne by ne befre ging n with the rest f the migratin prcess. The errr message shuld be relevant enugh s yu can make the changes accrdingly. The mst cmmn errrs will be the nes relative t Passthrugh cmmands and Fnts issues such as the nes described in the Warnings sectin abve. After yu fixed errrs, yu shuld d sme testing t ensure that yu get the exact same result frm yu versin 3 frm. A gd practice fr this is t test using versin 3 and versin 5 at the same time t be able t cmpare.

8 PlanetPress & PlanetPress Watch This prtin f the dcument describes cnsideratins fr tw pssible types f PlanetPress and PlanetPress Watch installatins. The first type f installatin invlves perfrming an upgrade frm versin 3 r versin 4. The secnd type invlves installing versin 5 f the sftware n a PC ther than the ne that cntains versin 3 r versin 4. Whenever pssible we suggest perfrming an upgrade n the same PC that previusly hsted the PlanetPress Suite cmpnent. PlanetPress Upgrade The upgrade prcess leaves versin 3 and installs versin 5. Using infrmatin and resurces frm the previus versin, the system perfrms the fllwing tasks: Frm versin 3 1. Activates sftware 2. Migrates printer activatin cdes It means yu must imprt separately PPD s and PS hst based fnts and recnfigure user ptins after the update is cmpleted. Frm versin 4 1. Activates sftware. 2. Migrates printer activatin cdes. 3. Migrates PPD s 4. Imprts all previusly installed PS hst based fnts 5. Migrates user ptins. New Installatin Given that the magic number used t generate the activatin cde fr the previus installatin is n lnger valid, the activatin prcess will have t be repeated in rder t btain a valid activatin cde.

9 Upgrades cannt be activated using ur autmated Activatin Manager. Please submit yur activatin request thrugh ur website (link belw) r cntact yur lcal Custmer Care Department: Make sure t indicate that yu are installing the upgrade n a new wrkstatin. All PS and TT hst based fnts must be reinstalled. All printer activatin cdes will have t be reinstalled. PlanetPress Watch Imprtant ntice n updating versin 3. PlanetPress Watch 4 and 5 and their helpers are all running as services. That implies majr changes in the settings f the functinality. All versin 3 prcesses that invlves the use f any MAPI client (Outlk Express, Eudra, Ltus Ntes) must be reset t use either a POP accunt r Micrsft Outlk since the new PlanetPress Watch n lnger uses MAPI cmpliant mail client but nly Extended MAPI Upgrade Create a backup f the current Watch PC in rder t facilitate a rll back shuld any prblems arise with the upgrade. Unlike what ges fr versin 3, PlanetPress Watch 4 & 5 cannt bth run n the same PC. The V5 installatin prcess therefre uninstalls versin 4 and replaces it with versin 5 while perfrming the fllwing tasks using infrmatin and resurces frm the previus installatin: 1. Activates the sftware. 2. Transfers dcuments. 3. Migrates user ptins. 4. Imprts cnfiguratin file. Carefully read messages during the installatin prcess New Installatin Initially, yu may want t cnsider keeping the previus versin installed n the ld PC in case prblems arise with the new installatin. Hwever, befre starting the upgraded versin, yu shuld be certain that PlanetPress Watch 4 has stpped and that the PlanetPress Messenger

10 service assciated with it has als stpped (This des nt apply t versin 3). Save a cpy f the current cnfiguratin f the versin 3 r versin 4 installatin. The cnfiguratin can then be pened after the new installatin is cmplete. Fr versin 3: Use the imprt functin in PlanetPress Watch 5 that cnsist t pen a file type.pw3 then read all the messages carefully regarding the imprt prcess. (See prcedure n next page) Fr versin 4: Since dcuments are nt part f the cnfiguratin, yu have t imprt them individually. The imprt prcess physically installs the dcuments t the Dcuments flder relative t the install flder f PlanetPress Watch. As an alternative t imprting them ne at a time, yu can make a cpy f all dcuments lcated in C:\Prgram Files\PlanetPress Suite 4\PlanetPress Watch\Dcuments and paste them in the same relative directry nce versin 5 is installed. The recmmended prcedure, hwever, is t use the Batch Send T utility frm versin 5 f the PlanetPress design tl. This prvides PlanetPress Watch with an updated versin f the.ptk files. Given that the magic number used t generate the activatin cde fr the previus installatin is n lnger valid, the activatin prcess will have t be repeated in rder t btain a valid activatin cde. Upgrades cannt be activated using ur autmated Activatin Manager. Please submit yur activatin request thrugh ur website (link belw) r cntact yur lcal Custmer Care Department: Make sure t indicate that yu are installing the upgrade n a new wrkstatin. Recnfigure any settings that may need t be applied t the PlanetPress Suite Messenger and PlanetPress Watch LPD services using the Access Manager. All PS hst based fnts and TT fnts currently used in PlanetPress dcuments must be installed n the new wrkstatin, therwise they ll be replaced by curier Make sure that printers installed n new machine are the same as the lder ne. If necessary, recnfigure lcal ODBC cnnectins. (i.e. create lcal cpies f databases r recreate required DSN entries). Manually install all external executables that will be referenced by the prcesses in the cnfiguratin file. If pssible, respect the lcal path used n the ther PC. As a preventative measure, yu may want t deactivate all f the prcesses befre sending the initial cnfiguratin until a few tests have been perfrmed t ensure the integrity f the prcesses. Install the same PPDs as the nes yu have int the PPD flder in versin 3. Install all crrespnding PPDs fr yur printers fr better paper handling features cntrl.

11 Best practice prcedure fr upgrading frm versin 3 t 5 Befre pening up the Watch 3 cnfiguratin file in versin 5, yu must imprt all versin 3 frms in PlanetPress versin 5. T d s, zip the cntent f C:\Prgram Files\PlanetPress Suite 3\PlanetPress Watch\FORMS n yur ld machine and bring it t yur new ne. Yu als need t bring yur versin 3 cnfiguratin file n the new machine. Then, pen yur versin 3 cnfiguratin inside PP Watch versin 5.Yu will then have t answer several questins like this ne: Here we strngly suggest answering yes s that yu can use yur new Watch server right away with yur versin 3 files. Yu will be able t change thse files fr their versin 5 in a later step. If yu use the Image utput t create PDFs, yu will be prmpted windws like this ne: If yu use a lt f PlanetPress Image Output in yur cnfiguratin file, yu might want t answer Yes t All t this and recnfigure in a later step the lgin settings if they were changed. If yu are using the send ptin yu will be prmpt t cnfigure the apprpriate settings

12 When the previus steps are dne: 1) Create all the printer queues (Windws printers queues) t reflect the same printers queues as yur ld PC. 2) When yur dcuments are cnverted in versin 5, yu can use the ptin Batch Send T t cmpile thse dcuments fr Watch. If yu chse t cnvert yur dcuments using a dem versin, remember that yu need a registered versin f PlanetPress t avid getting watermarks. Make sure t register PlanetPress V5 befre sending yur versin 5 files t Watch. 3) Assciate the dcuments versin 5 (ptk) with the printer Queues accrdingly. 4) Replace all the versin 3 files by versin 5 (even if versin 3 is cmpatible with versin 5). Nte that versin 3 is nt supprted anymre; if yu have an issue with a cnverted frm, we will nly supprt the cnverted versin 5 dcument. If the issue has t d with the cnversin frm versin 3 (r 4) then prvide us with the versin 3 f the dcument and we will supprt it.

13 PlanetPress Image, PlanetPress Fax and PlanetPress Search This prtin f the dcument describes ptential cnsideratins cncerning PlanetPress Image, PlanetPress Fax and PlanetPress Search. PlanetPress Search 4: Yu must imprt the PlanetPress Search Prfile (C:\Prgram Files\PlanetPress Suite 4\PlanetPress Search\ ppsearch.prf) and rebuild the database in rder t generate the database structure required by versin 5. PlanetPress Search 3: Since PlanetPress Search 5 cannt imprt prfiles frm versins earlier than versin 4, yu must recreate the setup cmpletely. Open PlanetPress Search 3 frm within Acrbat r Acrbat Reader Click n the Setup menu and select Set Search Directry Nte all the Search flders PlanetPress versin 3 is using. Create a new prfile in PlanetPress Search 5: Open PlanetPress Search 5 frm within Acrbat r Acrbat Reader. A new prfile is autmatically created. Click n the Optins menu and select Set Search Flder

14 Reset all the same flders PlanetPress Search versin 3 was using. If there were several prfiles currently used by versin 3 then yu must recreate them all by the same methd.
