8 Abut This Guide This user guide is intended fr Phtvltaic (PV) system wners, installers, technicians, maintainers and integratrs wh use the SlarEdge pwer harvesting system. This guide describes the prcess f installing and cnfiguring the SlarEdge Cntrl and Cmmunicatin gateway (als referred t as SlarEdge gateway). This guide assumes that the SlarEdge pwer harvesting system is already installed and cmmissined. Fr additinal infrmatin abut hw t install and cmmissin the SlarEdge pwer harvesting system, refer t the relevant inverter r safety and mnitring system (SMI) installatin guide. 9 Chapter 1: Intrducing the Cmmercial Gateway Chapter 1: Intrducing the Cmmercial Gateway Overview The Cmmercial gateway expands SlarEdge mnitring and cntrl capabilities. It can be cnnected t SlarEdge and nn-slaredge devices (excluding inverters) and can transfer the mnitring data t the SlarEdge mnitring server and ptinally, t a nn-slaredge lgger. The Cmmercial Gateway can cnnect t the fllwing devices1: SlarEdge devices, such as inverters and safety and mnitring interfaces (SMIs) Envirnmental sensrs Revenue grade meters Pwer reductin cntrl devices NOTE Sensrs, meters, lggers, and pwer reductin cntrl devices are sld separately. The LCD panel and buttns are used during the fllwing prcesses: l Operatinal mde: The LCD panel allws checking fr prper system peratin. Refer t Status Screens - Operatinal Mde n page 31 fr a descriptin f this ptin. l Setup mde: Upn installatin, an installer may perfrm basic cnfiguratin as described in Cnfiguratin Menu Optins n page 35. l Errr messages: In the event f a prblem, an errr message may be displayed n the LCD panel. 11 Cmmunicatin Cnnectrs Use the fur user buttns t cntrl the LCD panel menus: Esc: Mves the cursr (>) t the beginning f the currently displayed parameter; ges t the previus menu, and cancels a value change with a lng press (until Abrted is displayed). Up (1) and Dwn (2): Mves the cursr frm ne menu ptin t anther, mves amng the characters f a displayed parameter, and tggles between pssible characters when setting a value. Enter (3): Selects a menu ptin and accepts a value change with a lng press (until Applied is displayed). Use the three rightmst buttns fr entering the digits 123 when entering the Setup mde passwrd Cmmunicatin Cnnectrs Antenna1: used fr ptinal wireless ZB (ZigBee) r Wi-Fi antenna cnnectin. Antenna2: Currently nt installed RS485-1 and RS485-2: used fr cnnecting external devices t the gateway (refer t Cnnecting the Cmmercial Gateway t the Installatin n page 11) Mini-USB: Enables PC/laptp cnnectin fr using the SlarEdge cnfiguratin tl. Ethernet: Enables cnnecting the SlarEdge gateway t the SlarEdge mnitring platfrm thrugh an Ethernet switch/ruter (refer t Creating an Ethernet (LAN) Cnnectin n page 42). The Ethernet switch/ruter shuld be cnnected t the Internet. LEDs The Cmmercial gateway has three LED indicatrs, as fllws: OK (Green): Indicates whether r nt the Cmmercial gateway is pwered. Cmm (Cmmunicatin, Yellw): Blinks when mnitring infrmatin is received frm anther SlarEdge device in the installatin. Fault (Red): Indicates that there is an errr. Fr mre infrmatin, cntact SlarEdge supprt. All LEDs are ON while the Cmmercial gateway is being cnfigured and during pwer up. Other Interfaces DC: used fr the pwer supply input as described in Cnnecting the Cmmercial Gateway t AC n page 20. Sensrs: enables cnnecting t external envirnmental sensrs (refer t Cnnecting Envirnmental Sensrs (Optinal) n page 21). 12 Chapter 2: Cnnecting the Cmmercial Gateway t the Installatin Overview Chapter 2: Cnnecting the Cmmercial Gateway t the Installatin The Cmmercial Gateway cnnects t the PV system installatin using the RS485 cmmunicatin ptin. The RS485 ptin enables creating a chain (bus) f up t 31 slave SlarEdge devices, cnnected t ne master, which can be anther SlarEdge device r the Cmmercial Gateway. The fllwing is an example f a master Cmmercial Gateway cnnected t a chain f slave inverters. Figure 4: Example f RS485 cnnectin The fllwing sectins describe hw t cnnect the RS485 bus and hw t cnfigure its cmpnents. Creating an RS485 Bus Cnnectin The RS485 bus uses a three-wire cable cnnecting the RS485-1/2 terminal blcks n the Cmmercial Gateway t the RS485 input f the inverters/smi. T cnnect the RS485 cmmunicatin bus between inverters/smis and the Cmmercial Gateway: 1. Use ne f the supplied 3-pin terminal blcks: Lsen the screws and insert the wire ends int the A, B and G pins. 13 Creating an RS485 Bus Cnnectin 2. Chse either RS485-1 r RS485-2 fr cnnectin. Cnnect the 3-pin terminal blck t the designated prt n the Cmmercial Gateway. NOTE RS485-1 is cnfigured as SlarEdge device by default, therefre RS485-1 is recmmended as the RS485 bus cnnectin pint. 3. If the Cmmercial Gateway is at the end f the RS485 chain, terminate the Cmmercial Gateway by switching a terminatin DIP switch t ON. The switches in the SlarEdge Cmmercial Gateway are marked SW1 fr the RS485-1 prt terminatin and SW2 fr the RS485-2 prt terminatin, as shwn belw: Figure 6: RS485 cnnectrs and terminatin switches 4. Open the inverter/smi cver as described in their manual. 5. Remve the seal frm ne f the penings in cmmunicatin gland #2 f the inverter and insert the cable thrugh the pening. 6. Fr inverter: RS485-1 pins (left-mst) Fr SMI: RS485-1 (recmmended, as this is the default cnfiguratin), r RS485-2 Figure 8: RS485 terminal blck 8. Insert the wire ends int the G, A and B pins shwn abve. Yu can use any clr wire fr each f the A, B and G cnnectins, as lng as the same clr wire is used fr all A pins, the same clr fr all B pins and the same clr fr all G pins. 9. Cnnect all B, A and G pins in all inverters/smi. Fr inverters - D nt insert wires int RS485-2 pins. Fr SMI - Make sure yu are using the same RS485 prt (1/2) in all devices. 10. Tighten the terminal blck screws. 11. 15 Creating an RS485 Bus Cnnectin 12. Terminate the inverters/smis at the tw ends f the chain by switching a terminatin DIP-switch inside the inverter/smi t ON (mve the switch t the tp). The switch is lcated n the cmmunicatin bard and is marked SW7. Figure 10: RS485 terminatin switch NOTE Only the first and last SlarEdge devices in the chain shuld be terminated. The ther devices in the chain shuld have the terminatin switch OFF. T cnfigure the RS485 cmmunicatin bus with SlarEdge inverters/smi: By default, all SlarEdge devices are pre-cnfigured as slaves n the RS485-1 prt. Slaves can be further cnfigured using the RS485-X Cnf ptin in the Cmmunicatin menu. One device must be set as the master n the RS485 bus. Any SlarEdge device may be the master (Cmmercial Gateway, inverter, r SMI). If yu cnnect the installatin t the SlarEdge mnitring platfrm, the device used t cnnect t the server must be the master. The fllwing describes hw t cnfigure the master device. 1. Press the Enter buttn until the fllwing message is displayed: P l e a s e e n t e r P a s s w r d * * * * * * * * 2. Use the three-right mst LCD buttns t type in the fllwing passwrd: The fllwing menu is displayed: L a n g u a g e < E n g > C m m u n i c a t i n P w e r C n t r l D i s p l a y M a i n t e n a n c e I n f r m a t i n 3. 16 4. Select Server è RS485-X Cnf (X=1 r 2 depending n the specific physical prt cnnectin) t cmmunicate with different external devices (SlarEdge inverters, revenue meters r nn-slaredge lggers). 5. T cnfigure the master, select the fllwing in the LCD menus: Cmmunicatin è RS485-1 Cnf è Device Type è SlarEdge RS485-1 Cnf è Prtcl è Master RS485-1 Cnf è Slave Detect The system starts autmatic detectin f the SlarEdge slave inverters cnnected t the master Cmmercial Gateway. The Cmmercial Gateway shuld reprt the crrect number f slaves. If nt, verify the cnnectins and terminatins. Verify that nly ne master is cnfigured n the bus. 6. Clse the inverter/smi cver and start pwer prductin. 7. Verify the cnnectin f the Master t the SlarEdge mnitring platfrm, as described belw. Verifying the Cnnectin 1. After cnnectin, a message similar t the fllwing appears in the main status screen (see als Initial Status n page 31): R R C R : D i s a b l e d S e n s r s : D i s a b l e d S e r v e r : L A N < S _ O K > T t a l # f S l a v e s : Verify that S_OK appears, t indicate that the cnnectin t the SlarEdge mnitring platfrm is successful. If S_OK is nt displayed, refer t Trubleshting Cmmunicatin, belw. Trubleshting the RS485 Cmmunicatin 1. If N Cmmunicatin is displayed n the SlarEdge Cmmercial Gateway, perfrm the fllwing: Verify that the RS485 cable is cnnected t all inverters. Check the cnnectins between the first inverter in the chain and the ther inverters. Verify that ne f the devices is defined as the master and that slaves were detected, as described abve. 2. If the message Master Nt Fund appears, check the cnnectins t the master device and fix if required. 3. If after slave detectin the number f slaves displayed in the master under RS485-X Cnf è Slave Detect is smaller than the actual number f slaves, use ne f the fllwing methds t identify missing slaves and trublesht cnnectivity prblems: Use the Lng slave Detect t retry cnnecting t slaves Chapter 2: Cnnecting the Cmmercial Gateway t the Installatin Analyze the Slave List t check fr missing slaves, and check their cnnectin Refer t undetected_rs485_devices.pdf Cmmerical Gateway Installatin Guide MAN

The fllwing devices are supprted: SlarEdge (default fr RS485-1): Used when cnnecting t SlarEdge devices, such as: inverters, SMIs r Cmmercial Gateways. By default, all SlarEdge devices are pre-cnfigured as slaves n the RS485-1 prt. Revenue Meter: Used when cnnecting t an external revenue grade meter, in rder t read the meter data and send it t the mnitring platfrm. Fr a list f supprted meters, refer t Nn-SE Lgger: Used when cnnecting t an external nn-slaredge lgger. The lgger can read SlarEdge inverters data fr Nn-SlarEdge mnitring purpses. Prtcl: Nne: N device (default fr RS485-2) When selecting a SlarEdge device, the fllwing prtcls appear under the Prtcl ptin: Slave (default) Master When selecting Device Type <Inv. 18 When selecting Device type <Revenue Meter>, the Device Type <field> changes t Device Type <MTR> NOTE Chapter 2: Cnnecting the Cmmercial Gateway t the Installatin Fr ther supprted prtcls, refer t Device ID: The device ID is used t set the Cmmercial Gateway device ID (MODBUS ID) when cnnecting t an external master device (fr example, a nn-slaredge lgger), r t set the ID f the external device (fr example, revenue meter). Slave Detect: Is used t initiate autmatic detectin f the slave devices cnnected t this master device. The number next t the ptin is the number f devices that have been detected. Fr Nrth America nly: The prduct s cmmunicatin with external devices must nt use wires that span mre than ne building, as per the UL standard. Transprt and Strage Transprt the SlarEdge gateway in its riginal packaging, withut expsing it t unnecessary shcks. If the riginal package is n lnger available, use a similar bx, which can be clsed fully. Stre the SlarEdge gateway in a dry place where ambient temperatures are -40 C (-40 F) t +60 C (140 F). Package Cntents Cmmercial Gateway VAC t 12VDC (50 Hz/60 Hz) pwer supply with an interchangeable AC plug (US, EU, AU) Accessry kit including: Three 3-pin terminal blcks One 7-pin terminal blck One 6-pin terminal blck Installatin Equipment Standard tls can be used during the installatin f the Cmmercial Gateway. The gateway pwer supply requires a scket utlet with a grid vltage f 100 V V (50/60Hz). Prtect the gateway frm dust, wet cnditins, crrsive substances and vaprs. 21 Munting and Cnnecting the Cmmercial Gateway The gateway can be installed n a wall r n a DIN rail. T munt the Cmmercial Gateway n a wall: Chapter 3: Installing the Cmmercial Gateway 1. Determine the munting lcatin. Leave clearance frm all sides f the gateway fr cver pening, cable cnnectin and ruting. 2. Psitin the device n the wall, mark pints thrugh the munting tabs and drill hles using a 4mm diameter drill bit. 3. Munt the unit using screw anchrs and screws (use 3.5mm diameter screws, 20mm minimum length, nt prvided by SlarEdge).
