Intrductin Befre Starting the Test Running the ecall Test Suite Psitin Errr Tests Cld Start Time t First Fix Test f Re-acquisitin time Receiver Sensitivity Intrductin The Spectracm ecall Test Suite cnsists f a set f scenaris that run n a GSG-5 with 16 channels and OPT- ECL installed, r GSG-6 with OPT-ECL installed, and a StudiView mdule fr ecall cmpliance testing. These scenaris and tls are created t cmply with Cmmissin Delegated Regulatin (EU) 2017/79 Annex VI. This guide is intended t assist the user in perfrming the tests described in Annex VI. It is brken dwn by test case. Fr an verview f the ecall test requirements please see the presentatin fund here: A nte n PDOP Psitin Dilutin f Precisin is an indicatin f the psitin errr caused by the satellite gemetry. The GSG frnt panel displays calculated PDOP fr all satellites (except SBAS) generated by the GSG simulatr during the test scenari. The PDOP fr the ecall test scenaris is calculated n each cnstellatin independently, s the value displayed n the frnt panel may nt match the value given by the ecall test specificatin. The test scenaris were designed t be cmpliant t the ecall specificatin and are valid fr use in testing cmpliance t the ecall specificatin. A nte n Galile pwer levels The Galile E1 Open Navigatin Service is made up f 2 signal cmpnents, E1B and E1C. These cmpnents are each set t the specificatin signal level fr each test. When cmbined, they have a signal level that is higher than that f each cmpnent. The cmbined level is what is shwn n the frnt panel f the GSG simulatr during the test, s the value displayed n the frnt panel may nt match the value given by the ecall test specificatin. spectracm.cm Spectracm GSG ecall Test Suite 1

2 2. Befre Starting the Test 1. Required tls and equipment Spectracm GSG Simulatr with OPT-ECL installed, running firmware r greater Spectracm GSG StudiView sftware installed n a Windws PC, versin r greater Spectrum Analyzer, frequency range up t 1.8GHz r higher Test cable Prper adapters t cnnect cable t Unit Under Test (UUT) 2. Calibrating the Cable T perfrm the receiver sensitivity tests prperly, the lss due t the cable must be knwn. The fllwing steps are perfrmed t measure the cable lss at GHz. If the cable lss is already knwn, skip t the Running the ecall Test Suite sectin. a. Cnnect utput f GSG unit t the input f the Spectrum Analyzer. b. Setup the GSG t utput a CW signal at GHz at -70dBm. Select the Signal Generatr frm the Optins menu With Signal type highlighted press the enter buttn. 3 Press Exit t return t the signal generatr menu. With Ref. pwer (GPS L1C/A) highlighted press the enter buttn. Set Ref. pwer (GPS L1C/A) t -70dBm. Set Ext. attenuatin t 0.0 db. Set Simulate Nise t N. Press exit t return t the Signal Generatr menu. Press the start buttn t begin transmitting a CW signal at -70dbm. c. Cnfigure the Spectrum Analyzer Center Frequency GHz Span 4MHz Reference Pwer Level - -50dBm Use averaging as necessary t get a stable reading fr the pwer level. The pwer level read n the Spectrum Analyzer <minus> (-70dBm) is the cable lss f the cable. In this example the spectrum analyzer shws S (-70) = Runded t the nearest 10th, the cable lss in this case is 1.9dB. spectracm.cm Spectracm GSG ecall Test Suite 3

4 d. Final Steps Write dwn the measured cable lss. Press the exit buttn 3 times t stp the simulatin and return t the main menu. Discnnect the GSG frm the spectrum analyzer. 3. Running the ecall Test Suite 1. Equipment Setup Cnnect the UUT antenna input t the utput f the GSG simulatr. Cnnect the UUT t the PC and lcate the COM prt assigned t the device (if necessary, check the Device Manager in Windws). Cnfigure the UUT t utput NMEA sentences as defined in Annex VI, sectin RMC, GGA, VTG, GSA, and GSV messages shuld be cnfigured. spectracm.cm Spectracm GSG ecall Test Suite 4

6 On the Parameters tab f the ecall testing tl, select the GSG cnnectin. If a cnnectin has nt been cnfigured yet, see: In the External (RF cable) attenuatin field enter the cable lss as previusly determined. In the Receiver sectin, select the COM prt the receiver is cnfigured t send NMEA n. Click the icn next t the COM prt t cnfigure the COM prt settings. spectracm.cm Spectracm GSG ecall Test Suite 6

7 A nte n COM prt settings The ecall cmpliance test nly requires RMC, GGA, VTG, GSA, and GSV NMEA sentences t be sent t the PC frm the receiver. Sme receivers will als send additinal NMEA r prprietary infrmatin n the same COM prt cnnectin. This may cause missed messages if the baud rate is nt set high enugh. If the test reprts warnings like, N data frm receiver, and the cnnectin has been verified, then the baud rate may need t be increased. 3. Cld Starting the UUT The GNSS Receiver in the UUT must be cld started in between tests and in between test iteratins when applicable. Where the manufacturer f the UUT has prvided the cmmand t be issued ver the same COM prt cnnectin as the NMEA is received n, StudiView will perfrm a cld reset autmatically when needed. T cnfigure this: Press the icn next t Receiver drpdwn bx. This allws yu t set up a new receiver. The Receivers list pens, and a new receiver is added by pressing the icn with the green + symbl. In the Cld start message parameters decide whether the message t be sent is an ascii r binary message. Ublx M8 Example ublx M8 receiver - binary message B FF B C8 8F The send_ascii can be remved r cmmented, and the send_binary and sleep message are used. 8 Select the prper line terminatin fr the ASCII message if used. It is pssible t test the cmmand frm this windw t see if the receiver reset is wrking. If it is nt pssible t send a cmmand t the receiver t perfrm the cld start in between tests and test interactins, then Other shuld be selected in the drpdwn, and a manual cld start must be perfrmed when prmpted by the test tl. spectracm.cm Spectracm GSG ecall Test Suite 8

9 After the manual reset is perfrmed, press k t cntinue the test. The GSG and the UUT receiver are cnfigured and ready t start the test sequence. 4. Lg and Save If a lg f each measurement in the psitin errrs tests (rather than just the verall summary) is desired, check the bx at the bttm f the parameters tab. T save the NMEA data lgs frm the receiver and the GSG t file and then check the Save data t files bx and select the save lcatin. At the end f each test it is als pssible t exprt a reprt after the data is cllected by pressing the exprt buttn. 10 4. Psitin Errr Tests Assessment f psitining accuracy in autnmus static mde Testing is perfrmed by running 3 tests, each ne-hur lng. All 3 tests can be selected t run in a sequence. Psitin errr calculatins are dne accrding t the methd defined in Annex VI. The maximum allwed psitin errr fr this test is 15 meters Assessment f psitin accuracy in autnmus dynamic mde Testing is perfrmed by running 1, ne-hur test. The maximum allwed psitin errr fr this test is 15 meters Mvement in shadw areas, areas f intermittent receptin f navigatin signals and urban canyns Testing is perfrmed by running 1, ne-hur test. During the test, the signals will be present fr 5 minutes, then ff fr 10 minutes in a pattern that cntinues thrughut the test. Receiver lss f lck is nrmal during this test. 11 The default scenari time fr the psitining scenaris is ne hur, but if it is desired t shrten the test length fr set up and re-test purpses, the duratin can be changed by selecting the Override default checkbx and changing the scenari time. 5. Running the tests Press the start buttn t run the selected tests. On the status tab, the test status is shwn. Psitin errrs are calculated every secnd and are shwn n an errr vs. time graph: and plt indicating each psitin errr, the mean psitin errr, and the cnfidence interval. 13 A nte n leap secnds The psitin calculatins are dne by cmparing NMEA frm the GSG with NMEA frm the receiver. Time f day in NMEA is specified in UTC. T calculate UTC time frm GPS time, the receiver must knw the current number f leap secnds. Until that infrmatin is received frm the GPS signal, the receiver may nt accunt fr leap secnds at all r it may use a default value. If this ccurs in statinary scenaris, a warning will be issued n the status page. Fr mbile scenaris this can lead t a greater than expected errr due t cmparisn f different timestamps. If this ccurs, a warning will be issued n the status page and errrs calculated prir t the receptin f the leap secnd infrmatin will be disregarded frm the psitin calculatins. spectracm.cm Spectracm GSG ecall Test Suite 13

14 5. Cld Start Time t First Fix The cld start time t first fix tests are perfrmed at tw different pwer levels. 10 iteratins f each test will be run. 1. Select the test(s) t run Bth tests can be selected and will be run back t back. 2. Override defaults T run fewer r mre iteratins f a test, check the Override defaults bx and enter the number f iteratins in the bx. This will apply t the selected Time t first fix test(s) selected. 3. Running the tests Press the start buttn t run the selected tests. When the test is running, each iteratin reprts the time t first fix time. Finally, the average value f the 10 (r custm amunt) iteratins and the pass-fail result is shwn. Fr the -130 dbm test case, the time t first fix cannt exceed 60 secnds. 16 6. Test f Re-acquisitin time The purpse f this test case is t test re-acquisitin time f tracking signals after they are blcked ut fr 60 secnds at a time. Select the test t run by checking the Re-acquisitin test bx. This test simulates the remval f antenna as described in by turning all satellite pwer levels ff fr 60 secnd intervals. 1. Select the test t run Check the re-acquisitin test checkbx. 2. Override defaults By default, the test will wait fr 15 minutes prir t remval f the signals, and it will perfrm 10 reacquisitin iteratins. T verride these defaults, check the verride defaults bx and enter a custm wait time and a custm number f iteratins. The test is cnsidered passed if the average re-acquisitin time fr at least 10 iteratins is less than 20 secnds. 3. Running the test Press the start buttn t run the selected tests. Receiver Sensitivity This test uses different pwer levels fr cld start acquisitin sensitivity (-144 dbm), tracking sensitivity (- 155dBm), and re-acquisitin (-150 dbm). The simulatr pwer level is autmatically adjusted t meet the required utput pwer level, s the external attenuatrs are nt needed in this case. 1. Select the test t run Check the bx next t Sensitivity test (2.2.7) 2. Override defaults The default time t wait after initial psitin fix is 20 secnds. T mdify this value, check the verride defaults bx, and enter a new value fr Pause after slutin initially available The default time t mnitr fr a fix when the pwer level is lwest is 10 minutes. 18 When the verride defaults bx is checked, new entries shuld be made fr bth fields as these are the values that will be used in the test instead f defaults. 3. Running the test Press the start buttn t run the selected tests.
