4 GETTING STARTED 1.1. GENERAL Nrdic ID AR82 is a fixed 16 prt reader with a cmputer inside and multiple cnnectivity ptins. Nrdic ID AR82 prvides pwerful UHF RFID perfrmance with highly islated external antenna prts that prevents crss readings. This makes Nrdic ID AR82 ideal fr shelf reading. Nrdic ID NUR2-1W mdule inside allws reading speed f up t 1000 tags/s. POWERING THE READER Nrdic ID AR82 can be pwered via DC pwer supply (sld separately) r ethernet prt if the netwrk supprts pwer ver Ethernet (PE) feature r PE injectr is being used. Regardless f what pwering methd is used, the data cmmunicatin can be handled via USB cnnectin r if IP cnnectivity is required then via WWAN, WLAN r ethernet. USB 2.0 DEVICE WITH TYPE B CONNECTOR Nrdic ID AR82 includes USB 2.0 device Type B cnnectr fr cnnecting reader t hst device. 11 NOTE! Web management interface can t be access using USB cnnectr. Web management interface can be accessed nly using ethernet, WLAN and WWAN cnnectins. USB 2.0 HOST WITH TYPE A CONNECTOR Nrdic ID AR82 includes USB 2.0 hst Type A cnnectr fr cnnecting peripheral USB devices t the reader. The USB 2.0 hst Type A cnnectr can be used t cnnect needed USB peripherals t the reader t expand its functinalities. Maximum current ut frm the USB 2.0 hst Type a cnnectr is 500mA. ETHERNET Nrdic ID AR82 includes standard RJ-45 ethernet cnnectr. The reader supprts 10/100Mbps speed class and 802.3af PE. DUAL BAND WLAN (OPTIONAL) Certain variants f Nrdic ID AR82 include dual band WLAN supprting 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz frequency bands. External dual band WLAN antenna needs t be attached t the reader t make WLAN perfrm and wrk as specified. Nrdic ID AR82 can wrk as a WLAN access pint t ther WLAN devices thus enabling simple and cst-efficient netwrk f several readers and devices. WWAN CELLULAR CONNECTIVITY (OPTIONAL) Certain variants f Nrdic ID AR82 include WWAN cnnectivity supprting 2G and 3G cellular netwrks. External WWAN antenna needs t be attached t the reader t make WWAN perfrm and wrk as specified. WWAN cnnectivity needs a SIM card t be functinal. 12 1.9. USER INTERFACE User interface f Nrdic ID AR82 cnsists f 4 LED indicatrs and a reset buttn n the back f the reader. LED INDICATORS Nrdic ID AR82 has fur prgrammable LEDs fr user indicatins. Lcatin f the LEDs can be seen in Picture 6. It s pssible t enable/disable all the LEDs via web management UI and/r reader API. By default the LEDs are enabled. LEDs f the reader are: 1. Pwer LED 2. Cnnectin LED 3. RFID LED 4. Indicatin LED POWER LED Picture 6 Lcatin f LEDs By default, Pwer LED indicates if the pwer is supplied t the device via DC pwer supply r PE CONNECTION LED Cnnectin LED indicates whether the reader has established USB, ethernet, WLAN r WWAN cnnectin. Functinality f the Cnnectin LED can be cnfigured via NUR API if needed. Functinality f the Cnnectin LED differs depending n whether USB r TCP/IP (ethernet, WLAN and WWAN) cnnectin is used. Functinality f the RFID LED can be cnfigured via NUR API if needed INDICATION LED Indicatin LED is used t indicate different reset states. See sectin fr mre infrmatin. RESET BUTTON Reset buttn f Nrdic ID AR82 cntains the fllwing functinalities: Rebting the reader Press the reset buttn 2s (red INDICATION LED starts blinking nce the reset buttn is pressed) and release it nce 3 green LEDs are turned n. 14 If reset buttn is nt released, green CONNECTION and RFID LEDs turn ff and green Pwer LED is n. INDICATION LED starts blinking in red. After a while green RFID LED is turned n. Release the reset buttn when the RFID LED has turned n t enter t the recvery mde. This mde can be entered within 5s after the RFID LED has been turned n. Factry reset If reset buttn is nt released red INDICATION LED starts blinking even faster and green CONNECTION LED is turned n Release the reset buttn when the CONNECTION LED has turned n t enter t the factry reset mde. This mde can be entered within 5s after the CONNECTION LED has turned n. * Recvery mde can be used t repair the reader NOTE! If reset buttn is pressed ver 5s after the CONNECTION LED has turned n and the red INDICATION LED has started blinking even faster, releasing the reset buttn will perfrm a nrmal rebt RF PROFILES Nrdic ID NUR2-1W UHF RFID mdule supprts three different kind f RF prfiles. The prfiles are Rbust, Nminal and High speed. It s imprtant t select the crrect RF prfile based n use case and envirnment. Mre detailed descriptin abut the RF prfiles can be fund belw: Rbust Rbust RF prfile is intended t be used in challenging envirnments. It prvides the best filtering against the interfering signals cming frm nearby reader(s), ther signal surces and frm reflective envirnment. This prfile uses link frequency f 250 khz and Miller 4 cding scheme prviding read rates up t 200 tags/s. Due t the lw data speed and best filtering the Rbust RF prfile prvides the best sensitivity. Nminal Nminal RF-prfile is the default setting f readers cntaining Nrdic ID NUR2-1W UHF RFID mdule. It uses link frequency f 300 khz and Miller 2 cding prviding read rates up t 350 tags/s. High speed High speed RF prfile is intended t be used in use cases where the highest read rates are required. It uses link frequency f 400 khz and FM0 cding and prvides read rates up t 1000 tags/s. Due t the high data speed the prfile is quite sensitive t interferences. NOTE! Read rates will depend frm the envirnment, reader settings, tag ppulatin and tag type THERMAL MANAGEMENT Office Fax inf@nrdicid.cm 14 / 20

15 Nrdic ID AR82 reader includes sphisticated thermal management features that d prevent verheating issues if reader is used in t warm envirnments. The reader mnitrs temperatures f nbard cmputer and UHF RFID mdule and adjusts peratin pints based n the temperature infrmatin. Onbard cmputer starts mitigatin scheme (fr example clck frequencies f CPUs are drpped) when temperature f the nbard cmputer reaches 85 C. Thermal mitigatin scheme f the UHF RFID mdule fllws fllwing temperatures: 80 C UHF RFID reading peratins are suspended fr 100ms. Suspend time is increased 20ms by every C temperature rises until the temperature reaches 90 C. The thermal mitigatin scheme is turned ff nce the temperature drps belw 80 C. High temperature warning message (TEMP_HIGH) is sent via NUR API t hst. The warning message cntains als current temperature infrmatin. 90 C UHF RFID reading peratins are shut dwn until temperature ges belw 90 C. Once the temperature is belw 90 C, abve mentined mitigatin scheme is taken in use. Over temperature warning message (TEMP_OVER) is sent via NUR API t hst. 16 SOFTWARE All dcumentatin abut SW, SW features and applicatin develpment can be find frm GitHub NORDIC ID RFID APPLICATIONS FOR NORDIC ID AR82 Nrdic ID prvides fllwing Windws tls t test and cnfigure the reader. The tls are available via Nrdic ID Supprt pages: NORDIC ID RFID DEMO Nrdic ID RFID Dem applicatin is fr cnducting the reading tests. It allws cnnecting the devices and cmmencing the reading prcedure. The applicatin prvides statistics n the reading perfrmance and lgging capabilities fr mre thrugh evaluatin. As the Nrdic ID RFID Cnfiguratr, this applicatin als allws adjusting the RFID parameters n the fly fr better understanding hw they impact n the reading perfrmance. The difference hwever is that altered settings cannt be stred permanently int the device. The settings are reverted t defaults upn pwer cycle. NORDIC ID RFID CONFIGURATOR Nrdic ID RFID Cnfiguratr is meant fr cnfiguring the reader settings. The settings can be e.g. related t netwrk settings r RFID reading parameters and stred int the device as new defaults. Nte that e.g. the RFID reading parameters can be assigned t the reader by the hst applicatin after successfully cnnected t the device als. The RFID Cnfiguratr is als the tl fr updating the device firmware if seen necessary. NORDIC ID APPLICATION SIGNING TOOL T prvide mre security t the SW platfrm, the applicatin zip-files need t be signed with Nrdic ID prvided signing tl. The public key generated t the zip-file will be then verified against the list f files when installing the zip-file t the reader. This makes sure that nly valid cntent frm the zip-file can be installed. The tl in questin is called Nrdic ID Applicatin Signing Tl. The tl can be used t sign pre-built zip-files, as als t create new zip-files frm scratch. WEB MANAGEMENT INTERFACE Nrdic ID AR82 includes a web management interface which can be accessed with a web brwser. The web management interface is used t cnfigure the reader and manage applicatins. Dcumentatin abut web management interface can be find frm GitHub. NOTE! Web management interface cannt be accessed using USB cnnectrs. 17 REGIONAL SETTINGS Nrdic ID UHF RFID readers supprt perating frequency range between MHz. Sme f the readers cver full perating frequency band and sme f them have tw sub bands that are 868 ETSI band ( MHz) and 915 FCC band ( MHz). Reginal rganizatins as ETSI and FCC have set rules and requirements fr perating frequencies, utput pwer and ther RF parameters fr the UHF RFID readers t cmply lcal reginal requirements. Nrdic ID has created a set f reginal settings in rder t fulfil lcal regulatins. Nrdic ID is required t ensure that cmpliance f Nrdic ID prducts will remain after prductin. Slutin fr this is that prducts including UHF RFID functinality are set and lcked in prductin based n custmer rder e.g. if a prduct is rdered t Eurpe, it will be lcked t ETSI regin. And, if a prduct is rdered t Australia regin, it is lcked t Australia regin. When a prduct is lcked t individual regin, it will cmply lcal regulatins f the regin.
