Operating an inverter and a generatr simultaneusly will vid the warranty. SlarEdge requires installing a physical r electrnic interlck, which will prevent the generatr and inverter frm perating simultaneusly. Interlck prcurement, installatin, maintenance and supprt are the respnsibility f the installer. Damage t the inverter due t incrrect interlck installatin r use f an interlck that is incmpatible with the SlarEdge system will render the SlarEdge warranty invalid. WARNING! Shutting ff the AC breaker des nt disable the DC vltage inside the inverter. T btain safe DC vltage, turn ff the inverter ON/OFF switch and the Cnnectin Unit ON/OFF switch. 11 Chapter 1: Overview StrEdge is SlarEdge's all-in-ne slutin that uses a single phase DC ptimized inverter t manage and mnitr bth slar pwer generatin and energy strage. Hmewners are autmatically prvided with backup pwer in the event f grid interruptin t pwer pre-selected lads. Slar energy can be stred in a battery fr Smart Energy Management applicatins such as exprt cntrl, ffering demand respnse and peak shaving, and perfrming time f use shifting fr reduced electric bills. The StrEdge Slutin Cmpnents The StrEdge Inverter - The inverter manages battery and system energy, in additin t its traditinal functinality as a DC-ptimized PV inverter. SlarEdge ffers a StrEdge the fllwing inverter types: StrEdge inverter fr Single Battery r High Capacity StrEdge inverter fr High Pwer. The Cnnectin Unit, lcated at the bttm f the inverter, allws simple installatin and cnnectivity t ther system cmpnents and includes a DC Safety Switch. The SlarEdge Electricity Meter - The meter is used by the inverter fr exprt/ cnsumptin readings, and fr Smart Energy Management applicatins, such as: exprt limitatin, time-f-use prfile prgramming and maximizing self-cnsumptin. The meter is required nly in systems using Smart Energy Management applicatins (it is nt required fr StrEdge systems used nly fr backup pwer). The Aut-transfrmer - The aut-transfrmer handles the phase lad balancing. It is required nly in systems prviding backup pwer. One battery - designed t wrk with the SlarEdge StrEdge system. Inverter - as described in Installing the Inverter n page 20. The fllwing is a recmmendatin f the equipment needed fr installatin: Allen screwdriver fr 5mm screw type fr the inverter cver, Cnnectin Unit cver, and inverter side screws Standard flat-head screwdrivers set Nn-cntact vltage detectr Crdless drill r screwdriver and bits suitable fr the surface n which the inverter will be installed and fr pening the Cnnectin Unit drill guides. Use f an impact driver is nt recmmended. Apprpriate munting hardware (fr example: stainless blts, nuts, and washers) fr attaching: the munting bracket t the munting surface the pwer ptimizer t the racking (nt required fr smart mdules) Wire cutters Wire strippers Vltmeter Fr installing the cmmunicatin ptins, yu may als need the fllwing: Fr Ethernet: Fr RS485: CAT5/6 twisted pair Ethernet cable with RJ45 cnnectr. If using a CAT5/6 cable spl: RJ45 plug and RJ45 crimper Fur- r six-wire shielded twisted pair cable. Watchmaker precisin screwdriver set Inverter Transprt and Strage Transprt the inverter in its riginal packaging, facing up and withut expsing it t unnecessary shcks. If the riginal package is n lnger available, use a similar bx that can withstand the weight f the inverter (refer t the inverter weight in the specificatin datasheet prvided with the unit), has a handle system and can be clsed fully. Stre the inverter in a dry place where ambient temperatures are -13 F F / -25 C C. 12

15 Chapter 2: Installing the Pwer Optimizers Safety The fllwing ntes and warnings apply when installing the SlarEdge pwer ptimizers. Sme f the fllwing may nt be applicable t smart mdules: WARNING! The metallic enclsure f the pwer ptimizer must be grunded in accrdance with the prduct's listing and lcal and natinal cdes. When mdifying an existing installatin, turn OFF the inverter ON/OFF switch, the Cnnectin Unit and the AC circuit breaker n the main AC distributin panel. Avant de faire ces étapes, éteignez l'nduleur mnphasé en mettant sur OFF l'interrupteur ON/OFF situé au bas de l'nduleur. WARNING! Input and utput cnnectrs are nt watertight until mated. Open cnnectrs shuld be mated t each ther r plugged with apprpriate watertight caps. Les cnnecteurs d entrée et srtie ne snt pas étanches jusqu'à ce qu ils sient accuplés. Les cnnecteurs divent être accuplés u fermés avec des terminaux étanches. CAUTION! Pwer ptimizers are IP68/NEMA6P rated. Chse a munting lcatin where ptimizers will nt be submerged in water. Les ptimiseurs de puissances snt cmpatibles à la nrme IP68/NEMA6P. Chisissez le lieu de mntage tel que l ptimiseur ne puisse pas être submergé par l eau. CAUTION! Chapter 2: Installing the Pwer Optimizers This unit must be perated accrding t the perating specificatins prvided with the unit. Cette unité dit être pérée suivant les instructins truvées dans le manuel furni avec le prduit. CAUTION! Cutting the pwer ptimizer input r utput cable cnnectr is prhibited and will vid the warranty. Sectinner les cables d entrées u de srtie de l ptimiseur est interdit et annule sa garantie. CAUTION! All PV mdules must be cnnected t a pwer ptimizer. Tus les mdules divent être cnnectés à un ptimiseur de puissance. CAUTION! If yu intend t munt the ptimizers directly t the mdule r mdule frame, first cnsult the mdule manufacturer fr guidance regarding the munting lcatin and the impact, if any, n mdule warranty. Drilling hles in the mdule frame shuld be dne accrding t the mdule manufacturer instructins. T allw fr heat dissipatin, maintain a 2.5 cm / 1" clearance distance between the pwer ptimizer and ther surfaces. If cnnecting mre mdules than ptimizer inputs in parallel, use a branch cable (available frm SlarEdge). Sme cmmercial pwer ptimizer mdels have a dual input. Psitin the pwer ptimizer clse enugh t its mdule s that their cables can be cnnected. Make sure t use pwer ptimizers that have the required utput cnductr length: Minimize the use f extensins between pwer ptimizers, and use nly if cnnectin between ptimizers in different rws r arrays is required. D nt use extensin cables between the mdules and the pwer ptimizers. The minimum and maximum string length guidelines are stated in the pwer ptimizer datasheets. Refer t the SlarEdge Site Designer fr string length verificatin. The SlarEdge Site Designer is available n the SlarEdge website at Cmpletely shaded mdules may cause their pwer ptimizers t temprarily shut dwn. This will nt affect the perfrmance f the ther pwer ptimizers in the string, as lng as the minimum number f unshaded pwer ptimizers cnnected in a string f mdules is met. If under typical cnditins fewer than the minimum ptimizers are cnnected t unshaded mdules, add mre 14

The grunding washer shuld break thrugh the andize cating f the railing t ensure lw resistive cnnectin. Apply trque f 9.5 N*m / 7 lb*ft. See Figure 2. See Figure 3 Figure 3: Pwer ptimizer installatin and grunding using a grunding plate Fr munting n un-grunded structures (such as a wden structure): If the star washer r the plate cannt be used, use the SlarEdge grunding lug (purchased separately) with an equipment-grunding cnductr accrding t the supplied instructins. The grunding terminal accepts a wire size f 6-14 AWG, and must be sized fr equipment grunding per NEC requirements. Tighten the screws cnnecting the pwer ptimizer t the frame and the grunding terminal screw. Apply trque f 9.5 N*m / 7 lb*ft. See Figure 4 16

Therefre, the ttal string vltage shuld equal 1V times the number f pwer ptimizers cnnected in series in the string. Fr example, if 10 pwer ptimizers are cnnected in a string, then 10V shuld be prduced. Make sure the PV mdules are expsed t sunlight during this prcess. The pwer ptimizer will nly turn ON if the PV mdule prvides at least 2W. In SlarEdge systems, due t the intrductin f pwer ptimizers between the PV mdules and the inverter, the shrt circuit current I SC and the pen circuit vltage V OC hld different meanings frm thse in traditinal systems. Fr mre infrmatin abut the SlarEdge system s string vltage and current, refer t the V OC and I SC in SlarEdge Systems Technical Nte, available n the SlarEdge website at: nte.pdf. T verify prper pwer ptimizers cnnectin: Chapter 2: Installing the Pwer Optimizers Measure the vltage f each string individually befre cnnecting it t the ther strings r t the inverter. Verify crrect plarity by measuring the string plarity with a vltmeter. Use a vltmeter with at least 0.1V measurement accuracy. Turning it OFF reduces the pwer ptimizer vltage t a lw safety vltage and inhibits exprtatin f pwer. When this switch is OFF, the inverter cntrl circuitry remains pwered up. LCD panel: displays inverter infrmatin and cnfiguratin parameters LCD LEDs: Three LEDs indicate the fllwing inverter statuses: Clr Descriptin Functinality Green Yellw Red Pwer prductin Mdule cmmunicatin and inverter shutdwn Fault On - The inverter is prducing pwer. Blinking - Standby mde. The inverter is in Standby mde until its wrking vltage is reached. The inverter then enters Prductin mde and prduces pwer. Off - The inverter is nt prducing pwer. AC Bypass Switch: This switch bypasses the inverter functinality in case f inverter malfunctin. Maintaining pwer t the backed-up lads is enabled by cnnecting the lads directly t the grid. There are three switch psitins. The fllwing table describes the functinality and use f each psitin: Switch psitin 1 (left) (Default) Use Case Nrmal peratin Nrmal peratin. Functinality The backed-up lads panel is cnnected thrugh the sftware cntrlled switches t the AC grid (during nrmal peratin), r t the inverter (via aut-transfrmer, fr backup pwer). 2 (right) AC bypass This mde disables the backup functinality. The backed-up lads panel is cnnected directly t the AC grid thrugh the bypass switch. Use in case f inverter malfunctin. 0 Nt in use Munting the Inverter The inverter is supplied with a munting bracket. If installing multiple inverters: When installing inverters ne abve the ther, leave at least 8" (20 cm) between the tp f an inverter and the bttm f the Cnnectin Unit. When installing inverters side by side, leave 8" (20 cm) between inverters. 2. Psitin the munting bracket against the wall/ple and mark the drilling hle lcatins : Ensure that the flat edge f the bracket is at the bttm, as in Figure 12. Use at least tw bracket hles. Additinal hles can be used t fix the bracket. Determine which and hw many hles t use accrding t munting surface type and material. 3. Drill the hles and munt the bracket. Verify that the bracket is firmly attached t the munting surface. NOTE When munting an inverter n an uneven surface, yu may use spacers/ washers behind the tp munting hle f the bracket. Depending n the angle, use the apprpriate size and number f spacers s that the bracket is perpendicular t the grund. Recmmended: a stainless steel 3/4" lng screw, with a 1/4" scket buttn head, tw jam nuts and three washers. 4. Hang the inverter n the bracket (see Figure 12): Lift the inverter frm the sides, r hld it at the tp and bttm f the inverter t lift the unit int place. D nt lift hlding the Cnnectin Unit as it may be damaged. 24

Chapter 3: Installing the Inverter Align the tw indentatins in the inverter enclsure with the tw triangular munting tabs f the bracket, and lwer the inverter until it rests n the bracket evenly. Insert the tw supplied screws thrugh the uter heat sink fin n bth sides f the aut-transfrmer and int the bracket. Tighten the screws with a trque f 4.0 N*m / 2.9 lb.*ft. Insert the DC cnduit int the DC-side pening. Make sure the cnduit is firmly attached t the inverter enclsure and sealed prperly. 4. Cnnect the DC wires frm the PV installatin t the DC+ and DC- terminal blcks, accrding t the labels n the terminals: a. Insert a flat blade screwdriver int the square pening at the tp f the terminal blck and press t pen clamp mechanism. b. Insert the wire int the rund pening and release the screwdriver t spring back and clamp the wire. Check that the wire is fully inserted and cannt be pulled ut easily. CAUTION! Ensure that the Plus (+) wire(s) is cnnected t the (+) terminal and that the Minus (-) wire is cnnected t the Minus (-) terminal cnnectr. 36 Cnnecting t the Battery Cnnecting t the Battery T simplify the cnnectin prcess it is advised t cnnect the battery t the inverter befre munting the battery accrding t the manufacturer instructins. Fllw these guidelines: Fr easy access t battery cnnectrs, it is recmmended t cnnect the cables t the battery and t set all the battery DIP switches t their crrect psitins while the battery is still n the grund, befre munting the battery accrding t the manufacturer instructins). The fllwing prcedure is recmmended: a. Cnnect all the wires t the battery cnnectin panel b. Munt the battery c. Assemble the cnduit between the battery and the inverter d. Cnnect t the Cnnectin Unit. Measure the necessary length between the Cnnectin Unit and the battery fr all cables. The maximum distance between the battery and the inverter is 35 ft/ 10 m, when using 24 AWG/ 0.2 mm 2 cables fr battery cntrl. Tie and wrap the cables t avid pulling them ut during munting. Be sure t adhere t all safety cautins and infrmatin in the battery dcumentatin. The battery cnnects t the DC side f the inverter. Since the inverter DC cnnectins are n its left side, it is recmmended t psitin the battery t the left f the inverter t simplify wiring. WARNING! S_OK: The cnnectin t the SlarEdge mnitring platfrm is successful (shuld appear nly if the inverter is cnnected t the server). Vac [V]: The grid AC utput vltage. Verify the crrect value. Vdc [V]: The DC input vltage f the lngest string cnnected t the inverter. There shuld be a safety vltage f 1V fr each pwer ptimizer in the string. NOTE A measurement errr n the inverter LCD f ±3 V is acceptable. Pac [w]: The AC utput pwer (shuld be 0.0 since the inverter is OFF). OFF: The inverter ON/OFF switch is in the OFF psitin. 48

51 Step 2: Pairing Pwer Optimizers t the Inverter Once all cnnectins are made, all the pwer ptimizers must be lgically paired t their inverter. The pwer ptimizers d nt start prducing pwer until they are paired. This step describes hw t assign each inverter t the pwer ptimizers frm which it will prduce pwer. Perfrm this step when the mdules are expsed t sunlight. If the string length is changed r a pwer ptimizer is replaced, repeat the pairing prcess. 1. Perfrm pairing: Press and hld dwn the inverter LCD buttn fr abut 10 secnds. The fllwing message is displayed: K e e p h l d i n g b u t t n f r p a i r i n g, r e l e a s e t e n t e r m e n u... S_OK appears, if the inverter is cnnected t the SlarEdge mnitring platfrm. Vac [V] specifies the measured grid AC utput vltage. Vdc [v] specifies the DC input vltage, which shuld be apprximately the inverter DC vltage (mdel dependent; refer t the inverter datasheet) Pac [W] specifies the AC utput pwer prduced. 2. Take nte f the serial number n the inverter label using the detachable 2D barcde sticker n each device. This infrmatin is used in the SlarEdge mnitring platfrm t identify this inverter. Yur SlarEdge pwer harvesting system is nw peratinal. Step 4: Reprting and Mnitring Installatin Data NOTE This step requires cnnecting ne f the cmmunicatin ptins. Refer t Setting Up Cmmunicatin t the Mnitring Platfrm n page 72. The SlarEdge Mnitring System The SlarEdge clud-based mnitring platfrm (mnitring platfrm) enables accessing SlarEdge site infrmatin, including up-t-date infrmatin viewed in a physical r lgical view. The mnitring platfrm is described in detail in the SlarEdge Mnitring Platfrm User Guide, available n the SlarEdge website at The SlarEdge mnitring platfrm can display lgical and physical layuts f the installed system, as fllws: Lgical Layut: Shws a schematic lgical layut f the cmpnents in the system, such as: inverters, strings and mdules, as well as their electrical cnnectivity. This view enables yu t see which mdules are cnnected in each string, which strings are cnnected t each inverter, and s n. 50

53 Physical Layut: Shws a schematic physical layut f the cmpnents in the system, such as: inverters, strings and mdules, as well as their electrical cnnectivity. This view enables a bird s eye view f the actual lcatin f a system cmpnent. Using the platfrm, yu can: View the latest perfrmance f specific cmpnents. Find under-perfrming cmpnents, such as mdules, by cmparing their perfrmance t that f ther cmpnents f the same type. Pinpint the lcatin f alerted cmpnents using the physical layut. See hw cmpnents are cnnected t each ther. Pair pwer ptimizers remtely. T display a lgical layut, insert the inverter serial number in the new site created in the applicatin. When the cmmunicatin between the inverter and the mnitring server is established, the lgical layut is displayed. T display a physical layut, yu need t map the lcatins f the installed pwer ptimizers. T generate a physical mapping, use either the Site Mapper applicatin r the physical layut editr in the mnitring platfrm. The lgical and physical mapping can be used fr debugging a prblem using the SlarEdge mnitring platfrm. If yu d nt reprt the physical and lgical mapping f the installed pwer ptimizers t SlarEdge, the SlarEdge mnitring platfrm will shw the lgical layut indicating which pwer ptimizers are cnnected t which inverter, but will nt shw strings r the physical lcatin f pwer ptimizers. The inverter may be cnnected t the SlarEdge mnitring platfrm via LAN r, using a SlarEdge ZigBee Hme Gateway system, r a SlarEdge Cellular Mdem. Alternatively, yu can cnnect the inverter t anther inverter that is already cnnected t the server, in a master-slave cnfiguratin. Terminate the first and last SlarEdge device (inverter/cntrl and Cmmunicatin gateway, etc.) in the chain by switching a terminatin DIP-switch inside the inverter t ON (mve the left switch up). The ther inverters in the chain shuld have the terminatin switch OFF (dwn psitin). 11. Clse the inverter cver: Attach the inverter cver and secure it by tightening the screws with a trque f 9.0 N*m/ 6.6 lb.*ft. Fr prper sealing, first tighten the crner screws and then the tw central screws. 2. If nt already ON - Turn ON the AC t the inverter by turning ON the circuit breaker n the main distributin panel and turning n the Cnnectin Unit. 3. Wait fr the inverter t cnnect t the SlarEdge mnitring platfrm. This may take up t tw minutes. Backup Pwer Applicatins The prduced pwer is stred in the battery t be used during pwer utages. The StrEdge inverter senses the grid vltage, and when it is dwn it autmatically switches t Backup mde, discnnecting frm the grid and supplying pwer t the backed-up lads. This applicatin requires cnnectin t the SlarEdge Aut-transfrmer and a backed-up lads panel. This applicatin can be used in ne f tw ways: Backup-nly energy stred in the battery is discharged fr backup pwer nly, that is, when there is n pwer frm the grid Backup with Smart Energy Management use sme f the battery energy fr backup pwer, and the rest fr maximize self-cnsumptin(msc) r charge/ discharge prfile prgramming (fr time f use arbitrage) applicatins. The Backup applicatin can be used whether r nt PV mdules are installed at the site. The backup functin is disabled by default and can be enabled fr n- grid nly applicatin, if backup is nt needed.
