SA01834CH Revisin Date: Sectin 1.0 Intrductin This manual describes the installatin f a cwl munted HID light which replaces the factry cwl munted landing light. This apprval des nt extend t mdels nt listed n the AML. The installatin must be accmplished in accrdance with AC B and 2A. The installatin requires the munting f a ballast and bulb. Befre installing cnfirm the vltage f the ballast being installed is crrect fr the aircraft vltage. Sectin 2.0 Bulb And Ballast Installatin A) Remve the landing light retainer and bulb frm the cwling, remve the air cleaner and the left hand cwl access dr t allw mre rm fr ballast installatin. B) Install HID ballast ff t the side f, and in prximity t, the air filter as shwn in Figure A. Reference Figure B fr installatin details. (Alternate ballast munting lcatins may be chsen by the installer, prvided that they will withstand the inertia frces stipulated in AC A Chapters 1 & 3 t Sectin 2 A) C) Cnnect black lead f cable # RMD t aircraft grund. verify grund cntinuity per AC B/2A sectin 11. (Lead may be shrtened if necessary) D) Cnnect red r white lead f cable # RMD t riginal aircraft landing light pwer wire. (Lead may be shrtened if necessary) E) Per Figure B, install Part N. RMD t Part N. BON-HID-001, 002, r 003 using bulb retainer frm riginal assembly. F) Cnnect cable # RMD frm ballast t bulb. G) Cnfirm that all wires are secured with tie wraps r Adel clamps. Fr further infrmatin reference AC B sectin H) Install new Light Assembly t cwling. (Figure B) I) Test HID light, cnfirm there are n circuit breakers ppped with all electrical equipment turned n. Als check fr any electrical/magnetic interference with all radi and navigatin equipment per EMI checklist, sectin 8.0 f this manual. J) Re-install air filter and left hand cwl access dr. This EMI checklist must be cmpleted after installatin f the HID light(s). The purpse f this checklist is t insure that there is n ut f tlerance interference between the HID lighting system and ther systems already installed in the aircraft. If ut f tlerance interference is detected, the installatin may be mdified by adding external filters, relcating equipment, r re-ruting cables as necessary t eliminate interference. Fr further assistance, the installer may cntact Knts 2U, Ltd. a. VHF Radi Check With the VHF Radi n, adjust t the squelch activatin threshld. Test the fllwing frequencies, 121.7, , 128.7, and Nte any nrmal backgrund nise. Activate HID light(s) and repeat frequency check. Nte any deviatin in readings between tests. Repeat check n any additinal radis. b. VOR Check With the nav radi n adjust squelch t the activatin threshld. Test the fllwing frequencies, , 111.4, and Nte any nrmal backgrund nise. Activate HID light(s) and repeat frequency check. Nte any deviatin in readings between tests. Repeat check n any additinal nav radis. c. ADF Check With the ADF/NDB n, adjust t the squelch activatin threshld. Test at least three frequencies ne near the lw ADF/NDB frequency range, ne near the middle ADF/NDB frequency range and ne in the higher ADF/NDB frequency range. Nte any nrmal backgrund nise. Activate HID light(s) and repeat frequency check. Nte any deviatin in readings between tests. Repeat check n any additinal ADF/NDB driven equipment d. GPS Check Turn n GPS and set t a way - pint at least 100 miles away. Nte GPS readings Activate HID light(s). Nte any deviatin in readings between tests. Repeat test fr each additinal GPS. e. Additinal Equipment Operate any ther equipment and test fr interference with the HID light(s). Individual equipment installatin and/r peratin manuals may be referenced fr specific test prcedures.
