2 Overview Descripion The TLE9222 FlexRay ransceiver is designed for daa ransmission raes from 1 Mbi/s up o 10 Mbi/s according o he FlexRay Elecrical Physical Layer Specificaion The Bus Driver (BD) realizes he physical inerface beween a FlexRay node and he communicaion channel. I provides differenial ransmi and receive capabiliy o he bus, allowing he node bidirecional ime-muliplexed binary daa sream ransfer. In addiion o ransmi and receive funcions, he TLE9222 provides low power sandby operaion, supply volage monioring (undervolage deecion) as well as bus failure deecion and represens an ESDproecion barrier beween he bus and he ECU. The TLE9222 suppors he following FlexRay funcional classes: Funcional class Bus driver - bus guardian inerface Funcional class Bus driver logic level adapaion Funcional class Bus driver remoe wakeup Funcional class Bus driver increased volage ampliude ransmier In BD_Sandby mode he quiescen curren is decreased o a minimal level while sill being able o deec wake-up requess on he bus. Fail Safe feaures, like failure deecion and he power supply monioring, combined wih an easy accessible saus regiser suppor requiremens for safey relaed applicaions wih exended diagnosic feaures. The TLE9222 is inernally proeced agains ransiens on he bus pins, BP and BM. This makes i possible o use he TLE9222 for implemening ECUs wihou addiional exernal bus proecion circuiry while fulfilling ESD and ISO pulse requiremens of car manufacurers. Wih is excellen EMC performance he TLE9222 provides a very high immuniy agains RF disurbances over a broad frequency range and ransmis only a minimal level of elecromagneic emission ono he bus. The TLE9222 is inegraed in a RoHS complian PG-TSSOP-14 and PG-TSON-14 package. Using he laes Infineon Smar Power Technology i is especially ailored o wihsand he harsh condiions of he auomoive environmen and qualificaion according o he AEC-Q100 sandard. 8 Funcional descripion 4 Funcional descripion The TLE9222 realizes he physical inerface beween he FlexRay node and he communicaion channel. Differenial ransmi and receive capabiliy o he FlexRay bus is provided, allowing he node bidirecional ime muliplexed binary daa sream ransfer. The differenial bus volage is measured beween wo signal lines, denoed BP (Bus Plus) and BM (Bus Minus), defined as ubus = ubp - ubm. Three differen bus saes are defined for he FlexRay bus; Idle, Daa_0 and Daa_1. For he Idle sae no differenial volage is driven o BP or o BM. The common mode bus biasing level will depend on he operaion mode of all nodes on he bus. For he Daa_1 sae a posiive differenial volage is driven beween BP and BM, whereas for he Daa_0 sae a negaive differenial volage is driven beween BP and BM. 4.1 Operaion modes The TLE9222 suppors wo funcional operaion modes, BD_Normal mode and BD_Sandby mode. In addiion, he BD_Off condiion describes he behavior of he TLE9222 when unsupplied. 9 Funcional descripion BD_Normal mode In BD_Normal mode all inerfaces and funcions of he TLE9222 are in operaing condiion. The communicaion conroller inerface is fully acive; he RxD oupu reflecs he daa on he bus pins, he TxD drives he daa o he ransmier and he TxEN inpu enables or disables he ransmier. When he ransmier is acivaed, fail safe funcionaliy like he ransmier ime-ou, overemperaure deecion and bus error deecion are also enabled. The bus biasing is conneced o V CC / 2 via he inernal common mode resisors. Wih he RxEN flag in he saus regiser he bus saes idle or acive can be read ou hrough he SPI inerface. The hos inerface is acive and fully funcional, as well as saus regiser read-ou on he SPI inerface. Through he bus guardian inerface, he ransmier can be acivaed or disabled. The wake-up deecor is acive, bu received wake-up informaion is no flagged while in BD_Normal mode. The power supply inerface including volage monior on boh V CC and V IO is acive. Undervolage evens are signalled on he ERRN oupu and in he saus regiser, and rigger a mode ransiion o BD_Sandby mode. BD_Normal mode can only be enered wih a valid hos command while boh power supplies are wihin heir operaional range BD_Sandby mode Afer power-up he TLE9222 auomaically eners BD_Sandby, an idle mode wih opimized low power consumpion. In BD_Sandby mode neiher sending nor receiving daa is possible, boh he ransmier and he receiver are disabled. The bus biasing is conneced o GND hrough he inernal common mode resisors. The communicaion conroller inerface is inacive. The TxD and he TxEN inpus are no funcional. The RxD oupu is used for signalling wake-up or error informaion, depending on he hos command. The hos inerface is acive and fully funcional, as well as saus regiser read-ou on he SPI inerface. The bus guardian inerface is inacive and deecion of bus ransmission hrough he RxEN flag in he saus regiser is no possible. The bus failure deecor is no acive, no bus failure can be deeced. The wake-up deecor is acive and signals wake-up requess on he ERRN and RxD oupus while he hos command is BD_Sandby mode. The power supply inerface wih volage monioring on boh V CC and V IO is acive. If he TLE9222 is forced o BD_Sandby mode because of undervolage evens while he hos command is BD_Normal mode, his is signalled on he ERRN oupu. Addiionally, he informaion is sored in he saus regiser BD_Off condiion The TLE9222 eners he BD_Off condiion when he V CC power supply drops below he ubdpdv CC power-onrese hreshold. In his sae he ransmier and he receiver are urned off, he wake-up funcion is no operaional, he RxD and ERRN oupus are low and he SDO oupu is in high impedance sae. If he V IO reference supply is available, he logical inpus are se o heir defaul saes as given in Table 2. 10 Funcional descripion 4.2 Communicaion conroller inerface The communicaion conroller inerface is he link beween he TLE9222 and he FlexRay communicaion conroller, comprising hree digial signals: TxEN (Transmi Daa Enable No) inpu TxD (Transmi Daa) inpu RxD (Receive Daa) oupu The logical I/O levels of all hree digial pins are adaped o he V IO digial reference volage supply. Simulaneously he receiver of he TLE9222 moniors he daa on he FlexRay bus and ransfers he daa o a serial digial daa sream back o he RxD oupu. A logical low signal on he TxD inpu drives a Daa_0 signal on he FlexRay bus; a Daa_0 signal on he FlexRay bus resuls in a logical low signal on he RxD oupu. Vice versa a logical high on TxD drives a Daa_1 signal on he FlexRay bus and resuls in a logical high signal on he RxD oupu. The RxD oupu is also used o signal wake-up evens while he ransceiver is in BD_Sandby mode. The TxEN inpu is only funcional in BD_Normal mode and requires a ransiion from high o low for iniiaing bus ransmissions. Afer TxEN has been se low while he BGE inpu is high, a low level on he TxD inpu enables he ransmier. Daa Shee 10 Rev. 1.3

11 Funcional descripion For avoiding uninenional blocking of he FlexRay bus in case of failures, he ransmier is proeced wih a ime-ou funcion. In case a ime-ou occurs, he ransmier will auomaically be disabled and he error will be signalled by he ERRN oupu and in he saus regiser. A more deailed descripion of his fail safe funcion is given in Chaper Bus guardian inerface The bus guardian inerface allows an exernal supervision device o immediae inerrup any bus ransmission of he TLE9222. A logical low signal on he BGE inpu disables he ransmier of he TLE9222 while operaing in BD_Normal mode, regardless of he signals on he TxD and TxEN inpus. For increasing he ECU sysem safey level, an enhanced redundan feedback pah has been implemened for he bus guardian inerface. A monioring circui direcly a he ransmier oupu sages provides reliable feedback by seing he ERRN oupu low and indicaion wih he BGE flag in he saus regiser afer he ransmier has been disabled hrough he Bus Guardian inerface. The logical I/O level of he BGE inpu is adaped o he digial reference volage level uv IO. Togeher wih he TxEN inpu, he BGE inpu is moniored for he ransmier ime-ou funcion (see Chaper 4.7.3). Addiionally, he saus regiser includes he RxEN (Receive Enable NOT) flag ha indicaes aciviy (Daa_0 or Daa_1) on he FlexRay bus. This deecion is only acive in BD_Normal Mode. The RxEN bi can be read ou wih he SPI Inerface as described in Chaper Hos inerface The hos inerface enables he hos o conrol he operaion mode of he TLE9222 and o flag saus informaion. Depending on he provided hos command, he ERRN oupu indicaes errors or wake-up evens, see Table 4. The TLE9222 reacs on and signals hese evens on he ERRN oupu wihin he ime dreaciontime ERRN. Deailed informaion abou he deeced evens as given in Table 4 can be read ou from he saus regiser wih he SPI inerface as described in Chaper 4.8. To rese he ERRN even and he saus regiser eiher a correc read-ou of he saus regiser or a mode change by he hos command is required, given ha he error condiion has been resolved. 4.5 Power supply inerface The TLE9222 is powered by he V CC pin which shall be conneced o a volage supply wih nominal 5 V. Addiionally, he TLE9222 provides he V IO reference volage pin for all digial inpus and oupus. The volages a he V CC and V IO pins are moniored for deecion of undervolage evens V CC undervolage deecion The TLE9222 deecs undervolage evens on he V CC pin if he volage uv CC falls below he undervolage deecion hreshold ubduvv CC for a ime > dbduvv CC_blk. Upon deecion he V CC -undervolage flag and he error flag are se. In case he TLE9222 is in BD_Normal mode, he ransmier will be disabled and he ERRN oupu will go low afer he ime dreaciontime ERRN. Afer he ime dbduvv CC he TLE9222 will force a ransiion o BD_Sandby, regardless of he hos command (see Figure 6). Upon deecion he V IO -undervolage flag and he error flag are se. While an undervolage even is presen on he V IO pin, he reference hreshold levels of all digial inpu and oupu pins are invalid. Therefore, he TLE9222 blocks he hos inerface, communicaion conroller inerface, SPI inerface and he bus guardian inerface. This will release he SPI inerface and hos command, and change mode accordingly (see Figure 7) Power-up and power-down The TLE9222 will remain in BD_Off condiion as long as he volage on he V CC supply pin, uv CC, is below he power-down hreshold ubdpdv CC. When uv CC is ramped up higher han ubdpdv CC he TLE9222 powers up and begins iniializaion of he BD_Sandby mode wihin he ime dbd Power. Afer boh volages uv CC and uv IO have risen above heir respecive undervolage deecion hresholds (ubduvv CC and uuv IO, respecively), he digial inerfaces will be released and he full funcionaliy of he device will be available. 16 Funcional descripion 4.6 Remoe wake-up The TLE9222 deecs and signals a remoe wake-up reques afer correc recepion of a bus wake-up paern or wake-up payload in a FlexRay daa frame while operaing in BD_Sandby mode. When he valid wake-up paern or wake-up payload is deeced, he TLE9222 signals he reques wih he remoe wake-up flag in he saus regiser and on he RxD and ERRN oupus wihin he ime dbdwakeupreacion Remoe. The wake-up deecor is also acive in BD_Normal mode, bu wake-up requess are only flagged when he TLE9222 is in BD_Sandby mode Bus wake-up paerns A wake-up paern consiss of a leas wo wake-up symbols. A wake-up symbol on he FlexRay bus is defined as eiher a phase of Daa_0 followed by a phase of Idle, or alernaively as a phase of Daa_0 followed by a phase of Daa_1. If he daa is no idenical, a failure condiion is idenified. Boh he posiive and he negaive edges on he TxD inpu signal riggers an inernal comparaor o compare he TxD signal wih he RxD signal. The resuls are sored in an inernal error couner. When he inernal error couner exceeds 10 repored comparison failures, he bus error flag will be se. The error couner is rese when he ransmier is deacivaed Bus overcurren The BP and BM bus pins have implemened curren sensors for deecion of overcurren condiions in he direcion in or ou of he pins. Deecion of overcurren is he ypical signaure of a shor circui of one of he bus lines o he ground or a supply line Transmier ime-ou For avoiding uninenional blocking of he FlexRay bus in case of e.g. a malfuncioning microconroller or shor circuis on he PCB, he ransmier is proeced wih a ime-ou funcion. A mode change by hos command or a correc SPI saus bi regiser read-ou will rese hese flags, given ha he error condiion has been resolved Read-ou procedure The SPI inerface of he TLE9222 is enabled by he SCSN (SPI Chip Selec No) inpu. While SCSN is high, he SDO (SPI Daa Oupu) oupu is in a high impedance sae and clock signals on he SCLK inpu are ignored. The read-ou procedure is iniiaed wih a low signal on SCSN, which will cause he SDO oupu o be se low (see Figure 13). Afer he ime dspi Lead he saus regiser daa can be shifed ou on he SDO oupu synchronized wih he rising edge of a clock signal on he SCLK inpu. Wih a clock signal period of dspi Clk, he TLE9222 suppors SPI daa raes in he range 10 kbi/s o 4 Mbi/sIf a ransiion on SCSN from high o low is deeced while SCLK is high, his would be idenified as a SPI error. Wihin he SCSN period, he ime dspi SCSN_ while he signal on SCSN is low, exacly 16 clock cycles are expeced for a correc read-ou procedure.
