I is designed for in-vehicle neworks using daa ransmission raes up o 20 kbps. The TLE7258D operae as a bus driver beween he proocol conroller and he physical bus of he LIN nework. Complian o all LIN sandards and wih a wide operaional supply range he TLE7258D can be used in all auomoive applicaions. In Sleep mode he TLE7258D draws ypically less han 10 μa of quiescen curren while sill being able o wakeup when deecing LIN bus raffic. The very low leakage curren on he pin makes he TLE7258D especially suiable for parially supplied neworks. Based on he Infineon BiCMOS echnology he TLE7258D provides excellen ESD robusness ogeher wih a very high elecromagneic compaibiliy (EMC). The TLE7258D reaches a very low level of elecromagneic emission (EME) wihin a broad frequency range and independen from he baery volage. 6 Funcional Descripion 4 Funcional Descripion The LIN inerface is a single wire, bi-direcional bus, used for in-vehicle neworks. The TLE7258D LIN ransceiver is he inerface beween he microconroller and he physical LIN Bus (see Figure 15). Daa from he microconroller is driven o he LIN bus via he inpu of he TLE7258D. The ransmi daa sream on he inpu is convered o a LIN bus signal wih opimized slew raes in order o minimize he elecromagneic emission level of he LIN nework. The oupu reads back he informaion from he LIN bus o he microconroller. The receiver has an inegraed filer nework o suppress noise from he LIN bus and o increase he elecromagneic immuniy level of he ransceiver. The LIN specificaion defines wo valid bus saes (see Figure 3): Dominan sae wih he LIN bus volage level near. Recessive sae wih he LIN bus volage pulled up o he supply volage V S hrough he bus erminaion. By seing he inpu of he TLE7258D o a logical low signal, he ransceiver generaes a dominan level on he inerface pin. The receiver reads back he signal on he LIN bus and indicaes he dominan LIN bus signal wih a logical low level on he oupu o he microconroller. By seing he inpu o logical high, he ransceiver ses he LIN inerface pin o he recessive level. A he same ime he recessive level on he LIN bus is indicaed by a logical high level on he oupu. Every LIN nework consiss of a maser node and one or more slave nodes. To configure he TLE7258D for maser node applicaions, a erminaion resisor of 1 kω and a diode mus be conneced beween he LIN bus and he power supply V S (see Figure 15). Daa from he microconroller is ransmied o he LIN bus via he inpu. Simulaneously he receiver deecs he daa sream on he LIN bus and forwards i o he oupu. Normal Operaion mode can be enered from eiher Sleep mode (see Figure 9) or from Sandby mode (see Figure 5), by seing he inpu o logical high. From Normal Operaion mode he TLE7258D can only ener Sleep mode, i is no possible o ener Sandby mode direcly (see Figure 4). The ransiion ime for mode change o Normal Operaion mode MODE specifies he delay beween he hreshold, where he pin deecs a high inpu signal, and he acual mode change of TLE7258D o Normal Operaion mode. 9 Funcional Descripion While he TLE7258D is in Normal Operaion mode he following funcions are available: The ransmier is urned on; daa on he inpu are driven on he LIN bus. The receiver is urned on; daa on he LIN bus are moniored and signaled on he oupu. The pin is erminaed o V S via he inernal erminaion resisor R (see Figure 1). The inpu is pulled up via a curren source o he inernal power supply of he TLE7258D. The bus wake-up comparaor is urned off. The wo-level undervolage deecion is acive. In case V S drops below he undervolage deecion level he TLE7258D blocks he ransmier and receiver. In case V S drops below he power-on rese level V S,UV,PON he TLE7258D changes he operaion mode o Sandby mode afer recovery (see Undervolage Deecion on Page 15). The inpu is acive. A low signal on he inpu riggers a ransiion o Sleep. Afer a mode change o Normal Operaion he TLE7258D requires a logical high signal for he ime o,rec on he inpu before releasing he daa communicaion (see Figure 5). The ransmier remains deacivaed as long as he signal on he inpu remains logical low, prevening possible bus communicaion disurbance. 4.3 Sandby Mode The Sandby mode is enered auomaically afer: A power-up even on he supply V S. A bus wake-up even. A power-on rese caused by he supply V S. In Sandby mode no communicaion o he LIN bus is possible. The ransmier and he receiver are disabled. While he TLE7258D is in Sandby mode he following funcions are available: The ransmier is urned off, he inpu is inacive and he bus oupu is permanen recessive. The receiver is urned off. The oupu indicaes eiher a wake-up even or a power-up even (see Figure 4 and Table 1). The pin is erminaed o V S via he inernal erminaion resisor R (see Figure 1). The inpu is pulled up wih a curren source o he inernal power supply of he TLE7258D. In Sandby mode only he power-on rese level of he undervolage deecion is acive (see Undervolage Deecion on Page 15). The inpu is acive. A high signal on he inpu riggers a ransiion o Normal Operaion mode (see Figure 5). Afer a power-up even he TLE7258D eners Sandby mode by defaul. 11 Funcional Descripion 4.4 Sleep Mode Sleep mode is a low power mode wih quiescen curren consumpion reduced o a minimum while he device is sill able o wake-up by a message on he LIN bus. To swich he TLE7258D from Normal Operaion mode o Sleep mode, he inpu has o be se o low. Conversely a logical high signal on he inpu ses he device direcly back o Normal Operaion mode (see Figure 4). The inpu is disabled and he inernal pull-up curren source is swiched off. The bus wake-up comparaor is acive and will cause ransiion o Sandby mode in case of a wake-up even. In Sleep mode only he power-on rese level of he undervolage deecion is acive (see Undervolage Deecion on Page 15). The inpu remains acive. A falling edge on he LIN bus, followed by a dominan bus signal for he ime WK,bus resuls in a bus wakeup even. The mode change o Sandby mode becomes acive wih he following rising edge on he LIN bus. The TLE7258D remains in Sleep mode unil i deecs a sae change on he LIN bus from dominan o recessive (see Figure 8). In Sandby mode a logical low signal on he oupu indicaes a bus wake-up even. In case he TLE7258D deecs a bus wake-up even while already being in Sandby mode afer power-up, he wake-up even will be signaled wih a logical low level on and override he power-on wake source (See Figure 6). By seing he inpu logical high for he ime MODE while being Sleep or Sandby mode, a ransiion o Normal Operaion mode will be riggered (see Figure 9). The inpu has an inegraed pull-down resisor o ensure he device remains in Sleep or Sandby mode even if he pin is lef open. The inpu has an inegraed hyseresis. A signal ransiion from logical high o low on he inpu changes he operaion mode from Normal Operaion mode o Sleep mode (see Figure 5). The TLE7258D changes he operaion modes regardless of he signal on he pin. In he case of a shor circui beween he LIN bus and, resuling in a permanen dominan signal, he TLE7258D can be se o Sleep mode by seing he inpu o logical low. Afer a mode change o Normal Operaion mode, a logical high signal for he ime o,rec on he inpu is required o release he daa communicaion. Daa Shee 13 Rev. 1.2,

14 Funcional Descripion 4.7 Over-Temperaure Proecion The TLE7258D has an inegraed over-emperaure sensor o proec he device agains hermal oversress on he ransmier. In case of an over-emperaure even, he ransmier will be disabled (see Figure 10). An overemperaure even will no cause any mode change and will no be direcly indicaed on he oupu or he inpu. When he juncion emperaure falls below he hermal shu down level T J < T JSD, he ransmier will be reacivaed. Afer an over-emperaure recovery he inpu requires a logical high signal before resaring daa ransmission. A 10 C hyseresis avoids oggling during he emperaure shu down. T JSD (shudown emp.) However, no mode change will occur. Afer V S rises above he undervolage release level V S,UV,REL, he bus communicaion inerface will be released when he signal on he inpu goes high. See Figure 11. In case he power supply V S drops down below he power-on rese level V S,UV,PON he TLE7258D no only blocks he communicaion beween he LIN bus and he microconroller, i also changes he operaion mode o Sandby mode afer V S supply recovery. In Sandby mode he TLE7258D indicaes a power-up even on he oupu. The power-on rese level is acive in all operaion modes.see Figure 12. The logic inpus and he oupus are capable o operae wih boh volage levels. The LIN specificaion 2.0 is a super se of he 1.3 version. The 2.0 version offers new feaures. Vice versa i is possible o use a LIN 2.0 node in he 1.3 cluser wihou using he new feaures. In case of an no conneced inpu, he pin is pulled o an inernal volage supply (see Figure 1) and he oupu o he LIN bus on he pin is always recessive. Therefore he TLE7258D can no disurb he communicaion on he LIN bus. In order o opimize he quiescen curren of he TLE7258D in Sleep mode, he pull-up srucure inside he inpu is disabled in Sleep mode. All hese devices are pin-o-pin compaible, wih he only differences a he pins named N.C. ( = No Conneced). The N.C. pins can be lef open on he PCB in applicaions where hese funcionaliies are no needed.
