I delivers a programmable sep up volage (Boos) and a precise 5 V fully shor circui proeced oupu volage (Buck). P/PG-DSO-20-1, -6, -7, -9, -14, -15, -17, -18 The TLE 6711 G/GL conains a power on rese feaure o sar up he sysem, an inegraed digial window wachdog o monior he conneced microconroller and a sysem enable oupu o indicae he microconroller window wachdog fauls. The device is based on Infineon s power echnology SPT which allows bipolar and CMOS conrol circuiry o be inegraed wih DMOS power devices on he same monolihic circuiry. The very small PG-DSO-14-1 SMD packages mee he applicaion requiremens. Furhermore, he build-in feaures like under- and overvolage lockou for boos- and buck-volage and he overemperaure shudown feaure increase he reliabiliy of he TLE 6711 G/GL supply sysem. 8 Circui Descripion 4 Circui Descripion Below some imporan secions of he TLE 6711 G/GL are described in more deail. 4.1 Power On Rese In order o avoid any sysem failure, a sequence of several condiions has o be passed. In case of V CC power down (V CC < V RT for > RR ) a logic LOW signal is generaed a he pin RO o rese an exernal microconroller. When he level of V CC reaches he rese hreshold V RT, he signal a RO remains LOW for he Power-up rese delay ime RD before swiching o HIGH. If V CC drops below he rese hreshold V RT for a ime exending he rese reacion ime RR, he rese circui is acivaed and a power down sequence of period RD is iniiaed. The rese reacion ime RR avoids wrong riggering caused by shor gliches on he V CC -line. Afer power-on, he rese oupu signal a he RO pin (microconroller rese) is kep LOW for he rese delay ime RD, i.e. 64 cycles. Wih he LOW o HIGH ransiion of he signal a RO he device sars he closed window ime CW = 32 cycles. A rigger signal wihin his window is inerpreed as a prerigger failure according o he figures shown below. Afer he closed window he open window wih he duraion OW is sared. The open window lass a minimum unil he rigger process has occurred, a maximum OW is 32 cycles. A HIGH o LOW ransiion of he wachdog rigger signal on pin WDI is aken by a rigger. To avoid wrong riggering due o parasiic gliches wo HIGH samples followed by wo LOW samples (sample period CYL ) are decoded as a valid rigger. If a rigger signal appears a he wachdog inpu pin WDI during he open window or a power up/down occurs, he wachdog window signal is rese and a new closed window follows. A rese is generaed (RO goes LOW) if here is no rigger pulse during he open window or if a prerigger occurs during he closed window. This rese happens afer 64 cycles afer he laes valid closed window sar ime and lass for furher 64 cycles. The riggering is correc also, if he firs hree samples (wo HIGH one LOW) of he rigger pulse a pin WDI are inside he closed window and only he fourh sample (he second LOW sample) is aken in he open window. 11 Circui Descripion 4.3 Boos Converer The TLE 6711 G/GL conains a fully inegraed boos converer (excep he boos-diode), which provides a supply volage for an energy reserve e.g. an airbag firing sysem. The regulaed boos oupu volage V BOOST is programmable by a divider nework (exernal resisors) providing he feedback volage for he boos feedback pin BOFB. The energy which is sored in he exernal elecrolyic capacior a V BOOST guaranees accurae airbag firing, even if he baery is disconneced by a car crash. The boos inducance L BO (yp. 100 µh) is PWM-swiched by an inegraed curren limied power DMOS ransisor wih a programmable (exernal resisor R R ) frequency. An inernal bandgap reference provides a emperaure independen, on chip rimmed reference volage for he regulaion loop. An error amplifier compares he reference volage wih he boos feedback signal V BOFB from he exernal divider nework (deerminaion of he oupu boos volage V BOOST ). The oupu ransisor is swiched off immediaely if he overcurren comparaor deecs an overcurren level a he power DMOS or if he sense oupu swiches o low induced by a V BOOST undervolage command. 12 Circui Descripion The TLE 6711 G/GL is also proeced agains several boos loop errors: In case of a feedback inerrupion a pull-up curren source (I FB yp. 0.4 µa), inegraed a pin BOFB pulls he volage a he feedback pin BOFB above he reference volage. The boos oupu is swiched off by he high error volage which conrols he PWM-Comparaor a a zero duy cycle. In he case of a resisive loop error caused by leakage currens o ground, he boos oupu volage would increase o very high values. In order o proec he V BOOST inpu as well as he exernal load agains caasrophic failures, an overvolage proecion is provided which swiches he oupu ransisor off as soon as he volage a pin V BOOST exceeds he inernal fixed overvolage hreshold V BOOVOFF = yp. 37 V. 13 Circui Descripion Boos Saus Oupu OVL For supervision of he Boos oupu volage an open drain DMOS oupu is used. The oupu is high impedance in normal operaion and low during he warning. The OVL goes LOW if he PWM comparaor oupu (see Figure 8) remains HIGH for clock ime period. This occurs when he Error-Signal falls below he minimum value of he Error-Ramp, his mean ha Boos volage falls below a cerain hreshold volage. The OVL oupu used as a warning for insufficien Boos volage. 4.4 Buck Converer A sabilized logic supply volage (yp. 5 V) for general purpose is realized in he sysem by a buck converer. An exernal buck-inducance L BU is PWM swiched by a high side DMOS power ransisor wih he programmed frequency (pin R). The buck regulaor supply is given by he boos converer oupu V BOOST, in case of a baery power-down he sored energy of he boos converer capacior is used. Like he boos converer, he buck converer uses he emperaure compensaed bandgap reference volage (yp. 2.8 V) for is regulaion loop. This reference volage is conneced o he non-invering inpu of he error amplifier and an inernal volage divider supplies he invering inpu. Therefore he oupu volage V CC is fixed due o he inernal resisor raio o yp. 5.0 V. The oupu of he error amplifier goes o he invering inpu of he PWM comparaor as well as o he buck compensaion oupu BUC. When he error amplifier oupu volage exceeds he sawooh volage he oupu power MOS-ransisor is swiched on. So he duraion of he oupu ransisor conducion phase depends on he V CC level.
