Hen & Chicks Studio has become the creative outlet for owner Heidi Kaisand. She combined 30 years of crafting experiences, a 23-year professional quilting career, and a passion for inspiring others into an exciting new adventure. To learn more about Heidi you can visit her website at CRAFT SHOW This years craft show will be on November 9th, 2013 from 9am to 3pm at the Westminster Presbyterian Church on Beaver & Franklin. Gundel will be collecting items at the guild meetings. See page 5 of the newsletter for craft show ideas. 2 2013 Raffle Quilt If you haven t picked up your raffle quilt tickets you can at the September Guild Meeting. It s time to SELL SELL SELL!!! Each packet has 20 raffle tickets and a picture of the quilt. Each year we ask our members to sell tickets or you may want to purchase them for yourself. You will be able to turn in money and pick up additional tickets at our meetings. Pam Hillabolt is in charge of the raffle ticket sales this year. She or Linda Smith will be available at the guild meetings to collect money, make additional tickets available, and collect any tickets you do not sell. Thank you for all you can do to help support the Eastern Polk Quilt Guild. The raffle quilt size is 120 x 97. Ticket prices are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. Diana Anderson will be teaching a FREE class on 60 degree triangles Sunday, September 15, :00pm-4:00pm at the church. The pattern is on the cover of McCalls Quilting October 2008 called Merry-Go-Round. It s 62 x68, made from strips and cut using a 60 degree ruler. Supplies: 4 1/2 triangle ruler Basic sewing supplies Sewing machine Extension cords The pattern calls for 82 strips (2 1/2 ). She used two jelly roll sets. I used 42 tone on tone and 42 bright prints (floral, stripe & plaid). Page 2

The member whose name is first in the list each month is the coordinator for the refreshments that month. Please remember the responsibilities of the refreshment committee each month: 1) Supply the goodies. 2) Supply the paper and plastic utensils. 3) Clean up after. 4) Take garbage out. Dumpster is right outside the back door. It is important that each one of us remains committed to these small responsibilities each month. Thanks!! 2014 Raffle Quilt It s time to start planning for the 2014 Raffle Quilt. If your group would like the pleasure of working on the 2014 Raffle Quilt please call Pam Hillabolt at or visit with her at the September Guild meeting Saturday Sew Days Saturday Sews are scheduled the first Saturday of the month. Please see the Program and Events calendar for the location at the church. Starting at 9 am, it is a day to get together and work on a project of your choice. Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be a member of the guild to attend. Bring your lunch and join us. We ll have a great time. (There will not be a Saturday Sew in October.) Page 3

7 2013 FALL RETREAT When: October 18 th and 19 th Friday 8:00 am to 10:00 pm Saturday 8:00 am to 9:00 pm Cost: $30 Where: Doanes Park Youth Center 5050 Doanes Park Road Pleasant Hill, Iowa Food: There will be a sign-up sheet for meals at the August and September Guild Meetings. Please remember to sign up to bring food when you register for the retreat. Please bring your favorite snacks and munchies to share. Accommodations: Large round tables will be set up. Feel free to bring a small side table if you so desire. 2 large cutting tables with mats will be available. Several irons and ironing boards will be available. Kitchen with large refrigerator and ovens. Please provide your own serving bowls/pans and utensils. The building will be locked at night. We will be able to leave our sewing areas set up when we go home to our own beds Friday night. Payment / Registration Payment for the retreat must accompany the registration form.
