1 Quilters Crossing Business Meeting Minutes January 3, 2018 Call to order: By President Pat Anderson at 9:30 am. Please turn cell phones off or to silent mode. Thought for the day Josie McFarlane gave us her 9 New Years resolutions which all seem to involve quilting! Opening remarks: Pat Anderson - This is it! The Challenge is upon us. Pat thanked Chris Peckham and her team for the wonderful Christmas Party. All who attended enjoyed it. The half-square triangle shuffle held after the December business meeting was also a big hit with all who participated. She also asked QC members to support the efforts of the Opportunity Quilt committee by signing up to sell raffle tickets in Orlando. Left off the February calendar was at the Sister Sit and Sew, we will also be finishing up the flannel project. Under old business, Judy Haller has photos from the Youth Ranch Christmas Party to share with us a little later in the meeting. Opportunity to participate in National Quilt Day and National Teacher are coming up in March. Gail Childress with her infectious enthusiasm will here next Wednesday to teach us how to make a String quilt. There were 16 new members this year. Pat is pleased to report feedback from them has been this is a very friendly guild. Secretary s report Linda DeMola asked if there were any corrections or additions to the minutes. Hearing none, the minutes will stand as posted. Happy Apple Quilt Shop has added a second bus going to the Mancuso Quilt Show on Friday January 19 th. Flyers are available on the communication board along with some JoAnn s and Office Depot coupons. A King Size Hand Quilting Frame is available for free. If interested contact Elaine Pittman at Treasurer: Barbara Kellard Treasurer s report; QC Checking $5, Savings $16, Quilt Show $3, Total $24, Workshops Mary Smith mentioned the Challenge Reveal will be held on January 17th. On February 21 st Bert Garino, a former member will be here with a trunk show and will talk about How Quilting has Changed Over the Years. Workshops: Katy Gerritt - On January 10th Gail Childress will be teaching a String Trellis Quilt. In preparation cut your scraps into 1 ½ x 4 strips. Bring extra scraps to share and swap. On February 14th Ellie Fitzgerald will present her technique on making a Cathedral Window quilt. Class size is limited to 20 but she may offer the class again if there is enough interest. No workshop in March as we have the Spring Luncheon but in April look for Sharon Weber and Barb Sweet to teach a class on Landscape Quilts.

2 Hospitality: Chris Peckham mentioned what a good time was had by all at the Holiday Party held at Bon Appetite. Next month forms for those who want to participate in Secret Pals will be available. Team members passed out secret pal gifts and January birthdays were celebrated. Dorothy Bianco won the door prize. Lunch Becky Albritton Outback Steakhouse Membership: Carol Scott & Pat Hazellief In attendance today are 73 members, no guests. Pat passed out the missing sheets from the pictorial directory. National Quilt Day - Kim Kelley & Rose Colosi Will be held Saturday March 17 at the Palm Harbor Museum from 10AM 1PM. Quilts for the Sheriffs Advocacy program will be made during this time. Rose has kits available. Kelly Bliss has offered to make cookies! National Teacher Kim Kelley- March 20 & 21 st, Ellen Lindner, The Adventure Quilter, will be presenting 2 different six-hour classes. Wednesday s class is Grow With The Flow and cost to members is $45. Thursday s class is Double Reverse Appliqué and the cost is $50 for members. Six members have signed up for the Wednesday class and 13 members signed up for the Thursday class. Each class is limited to 20 participants and pricing is dependant on having full classes. Let Kim know as soon as possible if you plan to take one of the classes as she plans to open the registration to non-guild members with a surcharge of $10 over member pricing. Guild members may attend both classes if they wish. Philanthropic: Ginger Messer / Brenda Huffman- Brenda was pleased to report that over 300 food items were donated to FEAST at the December business meeting. Sixty dollars was raised for today s 50/50 drawing. Ginger Messer won and donated her winnings back to FEAST. Sixty dollars will be sent to FEAST along with donated food items. Ginger said she has only a few QOV to present to guild members family and friends, then the project will be completed. Rhonda Baker offered to help. At the Sit & Sew on February 28 they will be working on completing the Flannel project. Flannel blankets will be made and donated to the Pregnancy Center on Drew Street. Evelyn Towns is chairing this project. Ginger has kits available to make blankets. In Judy Haller s absence we will wait until next month to show the pictures from the Sheriff s Youth Ranch Christmas Party. Challenge: Bonnie Ward thanked all who participated. Thirty-six registration forms were handed in today. Challenge Quilts Reveal is scheduled for January 17 th. Doors won t be opened until 9:30 as the committee needs time to setup the food. A signup sheet is being passed around to see if you are planning on attending the Reveal. This is to determine the amount of food to prepare. Bring your quilt covered so it can t be seen. You will be given a number when you check-in your quilt. When your number is called you will show your quilt. The description you wrote about your quilt will be read and you will be given time to

3 say a few words if you wish. You will have a picture taken with your quilt by Brigitte Hoffa. Take your quilt home with you and bring it to the February 7 th business meeting. After the meeting you will need to bring your quilt to Dunedin Fine Art Center where it will be displayed from February th. You may pick up your quilt from Dunedin Fine Art on February 26 th from 10AM 2.PM. A signup sheet is being passed around to see who is interested in going as a group to the DFAC to view the quilts and have lunch. The lunch will cost about $15 and is payable at the February meeting. Be sure to Check Quilt Bits for updated information about the Reveal. Quilt Show- Cathy Johnson and Tammy Peters. Save the dates for the 2019 Quilt Show: January 24 for set-up and the show is held on January 25 & 26, We are still in need of volunteers to sell tickets for the Opportunity Quilt at the Mancuso Quilt Show in Orlando on January 18, 19 & 20. There are openings for 2-hour shifts to sell tickets and 4-hour shifts for white glove volunteers. Let Cyndi Hunt know if you can help. At the January 24 & 31 Sit & Sew s we will begin work on the Group Quilt. Bring supplies for cutting and sewing. Check Quilt Bits for additional information. New Business Election of Guild Officers for the April 2018 March 2019 term. Nominating Committee members were introduced. Membership Committee cochairs Carol Scott and Pat Hazellief, Mary Smith and Linda DeMola as board members, and Betsy Schobert as a member at large. The following slate is placed into nomination: President - Mary Smith, Vice President Carlajean Nasse, Secretary Linda DeMola, Treasurer Judy Haller. Pat Hazellief asked if there were any nominations from the floor. Receiving no more nominations the Nominees were asked to leave the room. Becky Albritton moved to accept the slate of officers as presented by the Nominating Committee. Kelly Bliss seconded the motion. Motion passed. Nominee s were brought back into the meeting and congratulated on their election. The business meeting concluded at 10:40am. Show and Tell began with items made from the half square triangle exchange and continued with member s items from the back row to the front. Thanks to Carry Shelby and Nancy Echols for helping display the quilts. Business Meeting was adjourned at 10:55. Linda DeMola, Secretary
