1 Quilters Crossing Business Meeting Minutes August 1, 2018 Call to order: By Mary Smith at 9:35 AM. Mary opened the meeting by reviewing the past months activities. Jo Groves taught a wonderful class on Thread Sketching and Painting. Look for a follow up class in the Spring. Mary thanked those who volunteered to work at Stitchers Paradise selling tickets for our Opportunity Quilt. Jo Clark will be leaving the guild. Josie McFarlane has agreed to take over Thought of the Day for the rest of the term. Thank you Josie! Mary has sent out letters to venders requesting donations for the raffle baskets and donations are coming in. Today she gave a Jelly Roll to Dorothy Day for her basket. We would like to have a few more baskets so if you would like to coordinate one see Linda or Mary. We are holding the Mid-Year Board Meeting on Wednesday September 26 at 9:30am. All officers and Committee Chairs should plan to attend. The Executive Board is reviewing the Bi-Laws and Policies and Procedures and would like all Committee Chairs to read their job descriptions and let Mary know if they feel any changes are needed before the next business meeting. Mary asked if anyone has an editable copy of these documents. Jo Groves and Barbara Sweet were mentioned. Also Penelope Haskell has software that could help. Thought of the Day - Mary Smith - Eight resolutions quilters make but don t keep! Secretary s report Linda DeMola asked if there were any corrections or additions to the July minutes. Hearing none the minutes will stand as posted. On the communication board are coupons from JoAnn s and Office Depot, and a flyer about the Jacksonville Quilt Fest. Treasurer s Report Judy Haller (see attached MoneyMinder reports) Checking Account $ 4, Quilt Show Account $ 9, Savings Account $ Total $ 31, Education - Annette Horner - On August 15 th Four quilting sisters, Barbara Campbell, Brenda Turner, Gail Crotty and Cathy Johnson will be talking about different techniques. Looking ahead to April 2019 Annette is hoping to have Jennifer Newell here. Workshops - Katy Gerritt & Jackie Hercules August 8 th - Holiday Gifts and Decorations. The workshop will be a combination of demo and hands on sewing and crafting holiday ornaments and decorations by our members.

2 September 12 th - Cathy Johnson will show us many interesting ways to use ½ square triangles. October 17 th Quilt Show preparation, helpful for new and seasoned members. Katy asked for a show of hands, who might be interested in a Free Motion Quilting Class possibly in April 2019 Many hands raised! Katy mentioned on Saturday November 3 Top of the World is having a Fall Festival, which is always a fun time. There are plans to bring the Opportunity Quilt there to sell tickets. Thank you to Annette Horner who has offered her tent for the event. Hospitality - Chris Peckham asked committee members to pass out secret pal gifts. Bridgette Hoffa won the door prize. August birthdays were celebrated. Chris thanked members who completed forms she passed out last month. She is still reviewing them. The Fall Picnic will be held October 24 th. She is still looking at venues and plans to check out Anderson Park after the meeting. Lunch Today we are going to Olive Garden. Membership - Carrie Shelby & Sharon Sullivan. There are 60 members in attendance and no visitors. Membership total is now at 92 including 3 lifetime members directories are available at the membership table for those wanting a paper copy. Digital copies were attached to a recent Quilt Bits. Carrie is still working on the Photo Directory and has run into difficulty. Penelope Haskell offered to help. New Member Tea will be held on Wednesday, Sept 12, 12N following the workshop. Sign up sheet is at the membership table. Philanthropic - Diana Bendert and Chris Nelson. $66 was raised in today s 50/50 drawing. Nat Wright won $33. There was an additional $2 donated so $35 will be sent to FEAST. Eleven non-perishable items were also donated. Kits are available at the Philanthropic table to make quilt tops for the Sheriff s Advocacy Program. Volunteers are also needed to quilt the quilts. Several members have taken quilts home to be quilted. Carol Scott brought in a laundry basket for donations for Clothes to Kids. The basket was overflowing! Donations will continue to be collected thru the Fall Picnic. Quilt Show - Cathy Johnson and Tammy Peters. Dolly has really done an outstanding job on the bookmarks advertising our Quilt Show! We can t wait until you see them!! Thank you for all who signed up for the Stitchers Paradise. $301 was raised for the Sherriff s Youth Ranch for a total so far of $ Special thanks to Lois for housing the quilt during the event.

3 Tammy and Cathy will not be at the New Member Tea on Wed, Sept 12. But will be at the next 2 Sister Sit and Sews, Aug 22 & 29 answering any questions you may have. This could be helpful for new members, Chairs, and newish members anyone who was not a member during the last quilt show. Plan to attend at least one session. The deadline for handing in forms for: Quilt selection, CD & M, No Touchies and Block Party is October 3. We will post the deadlines again in Quilt Bits. All the forms are on the members only site. The website address is on the top right of each directory page. Program Ads Outside back cover is sold. The inside back cover is still available. Check with Dorothy Day before promising any cover ad. The cost of printing the Quilt Show programs is about $1000 for 1000 copies. Our goal is to reduce the cost of printing by reducing the number of pages by eliminating the descriptions of each quilt. Descriptions are placed next to each quilt where they are hung during the show. Old Business: Gail Crotty is collecting Friendship Square blocks for Ann Blazer and is taking photos of members with their blocks. Bonnie Ward reported Ann is home and will be starting chemo next week. Please continue prayers. Come help sew blocks together at the August 22 nd Sister Sit N Sew. Melissa Kruschwitz passed out flyers with information about 2 cruises MK Quilts is planning for February She has a long arm quilting class scheduled for August 20. She is also planning another block paint party on August 31. Contact her if interested in attending either event. The business portion of the meeting concluded at 10:27 am. Carrie brought a wall hanging she finished using the techniques she learned from Jo s thread painting workshop to begin Show and Tell. Show and Tell continued with member s items from the back row to the front of the room. Thank you to Carrie and Barbara Campbell for helping display the quilts. Meeting was adjourned at 11:00.
