News from Our President.. Good morning quilters. 2 more days of Oct & Nov will be here. Besides another year being almost over it means changes for the SBSQC. Wednesday the 9th will be a busy day. We will be having our election for new officers & voting for Member of the Year. I will be talking to all of the special committee chairpersons & will be filling any empty positions. Please contact me or the chairperson if you would like to be part of any of the standing or special committees. It is a good way to get to know members & make a closer connection to the club. Any members that are now chairpersons & want to make a change please me or talk to me at club. This coming Wednesday, Nov 2nd, we will have our board meeting at 9 in the entry of the lodge. If you would like to be on the agenda please let me know. This year Everyone rallied around our board & offered support & encouragement. It's been a great year & I thank each of you being one of my quilting sisters. Judy Anderson Selection Process for SBS s 2017 Featured Artist of the Year The selection committee that chooses the Featured Artist honored each year at the quilt show is made up of previous featured quilters, now numbering 16. Each year the work of the committee is more difficult due to the increase in Sunbonnet Sue s membership and the high level of talent in the Club. The committee members consider the qualifications of all suggested quilters. The main criteria for selection of the quilter is the participation in Club activities, including committee involvement, classes, teaching, and demonstrations. Other considerations are the member s skill levels, quality of workmanship, composition, and use of color and value. During the selection process all discussions are kept in confidence. This year s Featured Artist will be announced at the Club s December Christmas Party.

We had lots of food, laughs, shopping, dancing, singing, musical entertainment AND we actually got some sewing done too. Remember to bring your projects to Show and Tell at the business meeting. Your Veeps want to thank you, for your participation in the first ever SBSQC Calendar. Thanks to you it was a successful fund raiser that shut the door on that gap we had in the budget. BAMM!! Our last task for the year is to make sure the Volunteer of the Year gets the recognition they deserve. Please come prepared to submit the name of who you think is the best volunteer of Kath and Judy Your Veeps Tidbits.. Seri will have a sign-up sheet for Friendship Groups. If anyone is interested see Seri. If the Friendship groups that are already formed need more members, see Seri. Such is the case with your club library. Our inventory shows lots of books are overdue. Take a look around to see if any are hiding out your house. 3 Community Quilts An Invitation... As we are winding down at the end of the year, we know that you are busy making Christmas stockings for our county children in need. Thanks to everyone who has turned in a stocking or two and keep those stockings coming in, please. Also we still have some of the smaller quilt tops to be quilted (home machines can do these very nicely); and, of course, we are still accepting your quilts, quilt tops, fabric, etc. IMPORTANT DATES Business meetings will be held at 10:00 am on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. Board meetings will be the first Wednesday from 9:00 to 9:30 am. That way all members will be able to sew or attend any classes held that day. We currently have 100 quilts on hand to be distributed throughout Clallam County. Seventy-two (72) quilts have been distributed to our neighbors through various community groups, such as Habitat for Humanity, Serenity House, The Answer for Youth (TAFY), and Boys and Girls Club. In addition, we have donated 9 quilts to other non-profit organizations for their fundraising events. The Community Quilts committee is looking forward to 2017 and we need volunteers to serve on the committee --- including a new committee chairperson. Have you considered being a part of the Community Quilts Committee, but don't know what that entails? We'd love to have you visit our storage unit (located behind Applebees in Sequim) and let us show you the "behind the scenes" working of Community Quilts. We will be available each Wednesday after club announcements to carpool to the storage unit. Please get in touch with Julie Malone, Mary Ann Ballard, or Gail Mabbutt for information about the Community Quilts program and/or for a tour of the storage unit. NOTES: Judy Ramos has the Christmas Block kit for Theme Holiday Rush. There is also a pieced Christmas block that is available for $1.00. Food Bank donations will be accepted in Red Gift Box weekly, ending at Christmas Party. Make checks out to Sequim Food Bank. Page 3

4 NEWS FROM THE BAGUETTES: It s time to get together on the first Wednesday of November to put together our Maxwell Bags. Bring your cut and quilted pieces so we can have our stylish bag done for Holiday shopping. Mary Liebsch will show us how. 5 "Stocking Challenge" for October and November... Our theme is: "Candy-land: All Sweet Treats" The deadline to turn them in will be December 7th Please put the stocking in a brown bag with your name on the outside of the bag. Turn them in to: Sharon Clayton or Jayne Merchant Club members will vote on the stockings at the Christmas party on December 14th. Tickets will be.25 each or 5 for $1.00 all proceeds will go to the foster kids fund. We will be awarding prizes for the top 3 winners You can make more than one if you want. Thank you Sharon and Jayne. Hollis Chatelain November 12 (Saturday) 8:30 to 9:30 (no charge) Lecture & Trunk Show: An Artist Journey The journey of an artist is full of twists and turns. Techniques and styles change through inspiration, influence, and experience. Hollis will be speaking about this process and showing images portraying the evolution of various artists' careers.
