I hope you are enjoying getting to know your fellow members and will consider joining a committee. Thanks so much to LaDawnna Prestage for volunteering to be our Sunshine Chair. Please send her any member concerns. As I mentioned at the meeting, I will be at Faith Lutheran Church on Wednesday, July 8th at 8:00am to pick up your quilt for the Hot Springs Area Quilt Show. Quilt Arkansas Ferndale For more information on these events, please check our Web site. We will have a special drawing at the raffle table in July for a Janome 124 Mini sewing machine, which is ideal for straight or zig-zag sewing at classes or workshops - a $79.99 Thank you too for such a fun May meeting and thanks to Bee Sew Happy for their coordination of the pot luck arrangements. As always, we have some very talented cooks as well as quilters! Thanks also to everyone who stayed in May to make CASA stockings. Deb Border said it was very productive. I would like to complement you, our members, for doing such a great job welcoming our guests. I was stopped by a guest the day after our May meeting at a restaurant who gushed about our guild and how warm and welcoming she was greeted at the meeting. Any corrections to your membership? 2 Village Quilt Guild Newsletter May/June JULY PROGRAM Linda Hartman will present a short program on the quilts made from books on our library. Our hope is you will better use of the resources there. We do have a workshop after the meeting: 5 Teachers + one. There are still some openings in some of the classes. Call me and I'll sign you up. Openings in Luggage Tags from Selvages, Handmade Flowers, and Zipper Pouches. ~ Gay HELP PLEASE! We have a full camp this year (children of incarcerated parents where I teach art) and I'm seven (7) pillowcases short. Anyone have one made they'd be willing to give to these kids? If you have one (or even two :- ), I'd be happy to get them at the next Guild Meeting, July 8. Thanks so much. Tickets are also available before each meeting. Have you purchased yours? BOUTIQUE FOR JULY Your boutique will be available at the July meeting and bring your donations too. Look for Christmas in July fabrics, panels and many others to choose from at great prices. We are working to streamline the Boutique with your regular priced fabric options at $1 per yard, make an offer table, and the free table. Chairpersons for Guild Charity projects are welcome to please pick out fabrics for your Guild Projects at no charge. Your member purchases help fund the Quilt Guild, thanking you in advance. Boutique for the remainder of will be held in September and October ~ Sharon & Leslie LOOKING FOR A PROJECT? New Beginnings Pregnancy Resource Center in Benton has a program where mothers who have a need can come there and earn points to get the things that their babies need. Some of the ways that they can earn points is to attend parenting classes, attend classes in school, read selected materials, attend nutrition classes, etc. The center provides everything from formula, diapers, clothing, toys, etc. They also give each girl a shower gift when they bring their newborn baby to the center. In each of these they include quilts or a knitted baby blanket. Right now Saline Quilt Guild is providing quilts for them, but they need more. The contact person is Kim Puska at

3 Village Quilt Guild Newsletter May/June QUILTS OF VALOR PRESENTED On April 17,, two more Quilts of Valor that were made by the Betsy Ross Quilt Bee were presented to military veterans in Hot Springs Village. They were taken to the homes and presented to GEORGE HARDARDT AND TIMOTHY JASIKI - both Vietnam veterans. The presenters were Linda Tiano, Charlotte Skelton, and Leanne Cunningham. These Quilts of Valor represent #67 and #68 given to veterans by the BRQB since the first presentation was made in August This Bee is currently coordinating with Mt. Carmel to make the next presentation of 10 Quilts of Valor at that location on Friday, July 3. More details are to come. Previous veteran recipients have been members of the VFW, the Military Order of the Purple Hearts, and residents living at Good Samaritan. Block of the Month July Blocks of the Month will be donated to the Betsy Ross Bee. Use Red, White, and Blue fabric with any block pattern of your choice.

4 Village Quilt Guild Newsletter BEE KEEPING NEWS I visited The Bobbin Along Bee and they are into beading. Wow, their projects are so intricate. Thanks, ladies for allowing me to visit with you. 5 Village Quilt Guild Newsletter May/June FOOTNOTES FROM THE LIBRARY New quilting treats in the library for you are: First Steps to Free-Motion Quilting by Christina Cameli o This is a good resource for the person who is new to free motion quilting. o Basic free motion patterns are described and then incorporated into 24 projects. Machine Applique Made Easy by Jean Wells o This book is for the quilter who is new to machine applique. o Thirty-seven full-size patterns for leaves, berries, flowers, and animals are provided. Piece in the Hoop by Larisa Bland o This book should interest the machine embroidery quilter who wants to incorporate machine embroidery into quilt projects. o The author provides 20 quilt projects and 40 machine embroidery designs. o An added plus is the DVD that accompanies the book. Nancy Zieman demonstrates the techniques described in the book. We are still looking for our lost lamb Small Seasonal Sensations by Patricia Welch. If you find it in a forgotten stack, please return it at the next guild meeting. You are doing a wonderful job of returning books you checked out. Keep up the good work. We have a Facebook Group.
