Come early and visit and shop starting at 6:30 pm. Friday Nite Sew-in! This month s Friday Night Sew-in will be on November 20st at 6:00pm. What To Bring To the Meeting 1. Name Badge 2. Blocks for swap Note from the Prez By now Halloween is behind us and most of us are firming up our plans for Thanksgiving and whatever the following weekend brings. As we look forward to the holiday season, many of us have projects to finish as gifts or holiday decor. We had a fun meeting last month with a great demo by Peggy, which will be the basis of this month's fabric exchange. I tried it out last weekend and it really was fun and EASY, so I look forward to seeing what everyone else has done. I think we have some fun ideas for the next year and Peggy and Holly have wonderful ideas for programs. Once again, a reminder that this is your guild, every one of you, and we want to get your input and ideas each week in our suggestion box. We have a talented group of quilters with lots of skills to share, so let's hear from you! Remember, this is the last meeting to bring in our PHD projects for this year, so we should have a great show and tell segment this month... Looking forward to seeing all of you on the 17th! Marianne PHD S (Practically Half Done) And so ends another year of finishing those practically half done projects. For those of you that participated this year, November is the final month to show those finished projects. In December we will a name from those finished projects. 50/50. It hasn t

2 been decided if we will continue this program in November's Program Gerri Olvaney will present a demo on how to make English Paper Piecing Hexagons. This will be a hands-on demo so if you wish to participate, we ask that you bring a needle and thread (and perhaps something for snipping thread). Fabric and paper templates will be provided. Don't miss this fun demo. You might need it for your potholder! New Block Swap The October demo was how to make Jenny Doan's scrappy 4-patch. If you missed the demo, you can watch it online by going to Missouri Star Quilt web site and look for the YouTube demo called 4-patch stars. It was suggested that in order to practice this technique just a bit, we would have a 4-patch drawing at our November meeting. If you wish to participate, please bring your Christmas/Winter fabric 4 patches. Your name will go into the drawing for each 4-patch you bring. (Each 4- patch measures 4.5"). Winner take all! St. Louis Star Blocks Mary and I and anyone who wants to help, will take the stars that people are willing to donate and finish the top and then Vicky will quilt it. If they want to donate the Star, please bring them to the November meeting. We will be putting them together to make a raffle quilt. Thanks so much, Joyce and Mary Annual Christmas Party Our annual Guild Christmas Party will be held on December 15 th in the FUM Fellowship hall. This is such a fun and festive get together. We will be having a potluck dinner. A sign-up sheet will be at the November meeting to sign-up for food, i.e meat, casserole, veggies, salad, desserts, drinks..we will be voting on the potholders everyone created, making sure you have a hexie somewhere on it and also using insul-brite. There will also be our most fun gift exchange. This is a hilarious time,. even if you do not wish to participate. Bring a $15 to $20 quilt related gift to exchange! Our Annual Christmas Party Potholder Exchange At our guild Christmas party on December 15th, we will once again have a pot holder contest. There is no special theme or color required so use something from your beautiful stash to create a special pot holder. There is one requirement however. Each pot holder must utilize a hexagon in some way, either the shape of the pot holder or a "hexie" applied to the surface. All participants will go home with a different creation than they brought. What fun! Voting will reveal the favorite potholder and that winner will receive a special prize. The Insul- Bright used for potholder batting will be provided at the November guild meeting.

3 Pam s Kids Pam Jennings is a wonderful teacher with the Head Start Program. Each year for her kids she fills stockings and small gifts for her kids. In years past some members of the Guild donate items for Pam s Kids! If you would like to donate any items for their stockings please bring them to the November or December meeting. Items such as match box cars, hairbows, candy (no peanuts), socks, mittens and other stocking stuffers. She has 18 little ones (9 boys, 9 girls), ages 3, 4, and 5. This is not a requirement for being a Guild member, just a little something for less fortunate children. Greenville Quilters Guild s Christmas Brunch The Greenville Quilters Guild is hosting a Christmas Brunch and Day of Sharing on December 5 th. Bring a can good or two for Charitable Giving Box, show and tell and join the fun. There will be 9:30, Need to know if you are planning on attending by 11/27/15. Forget your Guild name tag there will be a.50 fine Library Display SPRING BASKETS SIZE: Perimeter of no more than 60 inches. METHOD: You may do any method(s) you choose - whole cloth, pieced, appliquéd, and/or embroidered, and embellish in any way you want. YES: Your piece MUST have three layers and be quilted by you. DUE: at the February 2016 meeting but may be turned in at the January 2016 meeting. Happy Quilting!!!! If you have questions please call Mary Henris Donation Table Due to limited storage space, all "leftovers" that are unclaimed from the donation table will be given to a local thrift shop. One quilter's discards are another quilter's treasure, so don't forget to check out this great stack-of-stuff each month. And please remember that this is a fund raiser for our guild, so drop a small monetary donation in the basket if you find a treasure to take home! Look for the following at the meeting! Donation Table: Guild members bring their unwanted items to the meeting, so other members make a donation the Guild to purchase these items.

I cut 2 ½ inch wide strips from my fabric I have left from a project and use them to make nine or four patch units that I sew into a scrappy quilt. It s an easy project and keeps leftovers to a minimum. 2. Double check calculations before buying (or cutting) fabric so you don t have to make another trip to the store and risk that the fabric will be sold out. 3. When making copies of patterns for my personal use, I do it in black and white. It makes it easier to give the pattern my own color scheme. 4. Love a fabric? If it will make a great backing, pull colors from it to choose coordinating prints for the quilt top. 5. A fabulous quilt shop clerk showed me how to fold like size fabric. Simply fold it over a ruler once, slip the ruler out, and fold it in half again. I end up with the same size stacks that look as nice as they do in the store. 6. Store fabric scraps and fat quarters in clear plastic shoeboxes. The boxes are the perfect size for smaller cuts, they stack nicely, and they keep fabric dust free. 7. Read all directions first! If using a kit, I double check that all the fabrics in the proper yardages are included. 8. I spray fabric with starch before cutting it. The starch keeps bias edges from stretching, which makes it easier to piece accurately. 9. I separate cut squares with tissue paper so I don t inadvertently pick up an extra one. 10. Cut pieces for triangle squares slightly bigger than necessary, then trim them to size after piecing for greater accuracy in size.
