1 2019 Quilting Class Schedule Introduction to Quilting Teacher - Tammy Spencer Wednesdays 1pm to 4pm OR 5pm to 8pm (7 classes) Feb 27, Mar 6, 13, 20, 27, Apr 3 and 10 This 7 session class will teach you the techniques and tips to make a sampler quilt designed as a beginner quilt. It can be made with different quilt blocks that can be used as a wall hanging or a lap quilt when completed. You will learn about rotary cutting, quick and accurate piecing, pressing, layering, and be provided an over view of quilting techniques and binding. Class $140 plus supplies. See supply list for extra Walking Foot Quilting Techniques Teacher- Sylvia Benvie Thursday March 14, 10-1 Saturday March 16, 10-1pm Saturday March 23, 10-1 Thursday April 1, 10-1 You can do more than straight lines with your continuous feed (walking) foot! In this class, you will make a number of sample sandwiches to keep as reference for use on future quilts. The suggested reference book sets out patterns step by step that are easily adapted to your quilting projects. You will be surprised at what you can do. Class $20. WALK book $39. 2 Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine Teachers Sylvia Benvie and Paige Dickey Monday April 15, 1.4 Do you own a sewing machine that you don t know how to use?? Would you like to know what all the dials and buttons are for but don t know where to start? Then this class is for you! First of all, your sewing machine needs to be in good working order and you will need to bring your sewing machine manual and accessories to the class. This class will provide a review of all the basic sewing machine features and components and include instruction to learn the following; straight stitching, zig-zag, button hole, zipper, decorative stitching, proper tension settings, needle usage based on material, and general cleaning and care of your machine. This class is open to beginners 12 years and up. Class $25. See supply list for extra Finishing Classes Host Tammy Spencer/Paige Dickey Friday, March 1st, 10-4pm Tuesday, March 19 th, 10-4pm Tuesday, April 9 th, 10-4pm Do you need some dedicated quilting time to finish a project or need a little help with your quilting or binding? We have selected four dates for you to get those projects to the finish line! It s fun to get together for a day of quilting with friends. Book as many dates as you would like. $20 each class.

3 Scrappy Dresden Plates Teacher Tammy Spencer Mondays - Feb 25, Mar 11 and 25, 1-4pm (3 classes) A perfect quilt to use up those scraps! In this class you will use a specialty ruler for an EASY technique to cut, fold, and sew each of the dresden plate blades together. Then you will learn how to assemble and sew the blades together so there are no raw edges! Needle turn appliqué is NOT required. You can complete each block using a blanket or hidden stitch, or try out one of the fancy stitches on your machine! Beginner to Experienced. $55 class. Ruler $12. See supply list for extra Free Motion / Machine Quilting Teacher- Monique Wilson (Apple Hill) Thursday, March 21st: 10-1pm Using your darning/free motion foot you will learn the basics of free motion machine quilting. Tension, stitch length, threads and designs. Gain confidence to finish your own small projects. Experienced to Advanced. Class $45. See supply list for extra

4 Technique: Crayon Tinting Teacher- Tammy Spencer Friday, March 8 th & 22 nd, 1-4pm (2 classes) Learn how to use crayons to colour and enhance your stitched designs. In the first class Tammy will demonstrate the technique and have you complete a small stitched sample. Once you have learned the technique you will receive an embroidery kit for Crabapple Hill's Hedgerow Wreath pattern and do your own crayon tinting! During the second class, emphasis will be on completing your stitching and learning fancy/advanced stitches, if needed. The finished piece can be made into a pillow, table scarf, or whatever you choose!! Class $40. Pattern $14. Floss Kit (optional) $45. See supply list for extra Kick-it Capes for Happy Soul Project Host Taylor Sewing Centre & Quilt Shop Tuesday, March 26th: 10-4pm 1 Day Bring your sewing machine and accessories for a day to help make some Kick-it Capes for children hospitalized in area hospitals! Happy Soul Project is about inspiring change, celebrating differences, and helping others. They do this through many initiatives, including their Kick-It-Capes. They make Kick-It-Capes for children fighting cancer, dealing with terminal illnesses, or accepting vast differences. They have given over 5000 Kick-It-Capes worldwide in the hopes of giving kids a boost of hope and strength. Find out more here: No fee. 5 Quilt As You Go Teacher- Sylvia Benvie Thursday, March 28th & April 4th, 12-4pm OR Saturday, March 30th & April 6th, 10-2pm (2 classes) Have you been frustrated trying to quilt that queen-size quilt on a small domestic machine? In the last couple of decades, there has been an explosion of books and videos to help in our quest to complete larger quilts from start to finish. In this "techniques" workshop, you will practice some methods that will cover the specifics of cutting, handling and maneuvering a quilt on a small machine. Class $50. See supply list for extra Root and Fly Teacher- Sylvia Benvie Thursday, April 18th, 1-4pm OR Saturday, April 20th, 10-1pm This quilt gives the sense of flying geese, circling and taking off to the sky. The illusion is accomplished using a simple appliqué technique to place the geese around the center piece. The original pattern is a full size quilt (72"X84"), but can be scaled down to half size for a striking wall hanging (36"X42"). Pick your favourite whimsical fabric and set those geese free to fly. 6 Ruler Quilting Seminar Teacher - Tara Starzomski Saturday, April 13th, 10-12pm OR 1-3pm This seminar will introduce everything you need to know to get started quilting with rulers. Learn about the ruler foot, different rulers, and how to choose them, as well as, setting up your machine for success. Come and have all your questions answered. There will also be a chance to try out some ruler work at the end of the session. Find out if ruler quilting is right for you! Class $20. See supply list for extra Ruler Quilting Project Class Teacher- Tara Starzomski Saturday, May 18 th, 10-4pm Increase your knowledge and confidence working with rulers by completing this sampler that uses straight rulers, curved rulers, and a few specialty rulers. We will cover how to mark for ruler quilting, how to make a design fit, and how to combine ruler work free motion for stunning results. Note: Ruler foot required for class. Class $45. 7 Fearless Sewing for the Slightly Terrified Janome Educator March or April date to be determined - 5/6 hours. If you have been thinking about purchasing or upgrading your sewing machine we will be having a Janome instructor on site providing an informative tutorial on the Janome Professional series of sewing machines (MC9450, MC8900, MC8200, Skylines S3, S5, or S7, HD6700, CPX 2000, and AT2000D air thread serger). Fifteen (15) techniques will be covered showing the different machine features used to create these techniques. This is an ideal opportunity to try out a new machine and learn sewing techniques in a relaxed, fun environment. No stress to get a complex project finished. Take your time as you circulate the room sewing and compiling a fun workbook record of your journey while using the variety of different Janome machines and sergers. A great opportunity to learn good sewing information to use on your next project! $25 - Accessory kit for the class provided by Janome. The kit includes detailed notes in colour as well as all the supplies and thread needed for the class. Note: All classes must be prepaid prior to the class. There are no refunds as class teachers are booked based on your commitments. If classes are cancelled, you will be refunded or issued a credit for another class. Be sure to pick-up your supply list when you sign up for a class or have one ed to you. All classes that require the use of a sewing machine assume that your machine is in good working order and that you understand the workings of your machine. If you require repairs or a "tune-up", we service all makes and models.
