J U L Y / A U G U S T In this newsletter, instead of telling you what s new and exciting we thought we would let you see for yourself. Here is a small sampling of some of the new kits and projects we have hanging in the store right now! Sunflower Spectacular Many of you have seen this one but it s just too fabulous to leave out. Kits are available now but won t last long. Oh Canada! Shh it s a cheater! The strips come preprinted! 2 fabrics and you have this gorgeous lap size quilt. Kits will be coming mid July. Haunted Dresden Neighbourhood Just hit the shelves today, this Kindred Spirits original is a show stopper. Such a cute wallhanging or table topper. Kits available now, class will be coming this fall. Royal Cardinals This is a classic. Everyone s home needs a cardinal quilt for the upcoming winter and Christmas season. Kits are available for this beautiful lap quilt or get the panel and let the fabric inspire you to design your own. Cadence Court If you can t make the class but love the fabrics, we have delicious Fat Eights bundles of all the colours we are using to create the beautiful colour wheel of Cadence Court. 2 2 Learn to Quilt... Beginner Applique: (B) Learn the basics of machine appliqué & hand appliqué. You will be practicing on basic shapes, learning how to turn corners, deal with points and understanding what your machine can do with machine appliqué. Both the interfacing and fusible web method will be introduced. In hand appliqué, learn the popular freezer paper method, as well as the use of interfacing. When you complete this class, you will have the skills to finish other appliqué projects. Session: Two 3-hr classes Dates: Tuesday July 17 & 31 1:30p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Fee: $35 plus Westalee Rulers 101: (B) Teacher: Tori Quilters are very excited to use the Westalee Ruler Foot and Quilting Templates to achieve professional looking quilting at home. You will learn how to set-up your machine and quilt a few sample designs using the 12 arc that comes in the Ruler Foot Starter Package (required for class). Please note: you must be able to lower the feed dogs on the machine you re using for this class. Session: One 3-hr class Date: Friday August 3 1:30p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Fee: $25, plus Beginner Hand Embroidery: (B) Gloria will show you how to prepare your project for stitching as well as five basic stitches. Session: Two 3-hr classes Dates: Tuesday August 14 & 28 1:30p.m.-4:30p.m. Fee: $35 plus Westalee Rulers 102: (B) Teacher: Tori Are you looking for more practice with your 12 arc template? Join Tori to learn additional block designs to add to your quilting tool box. We will focus on motifs to highlight traditional units such as flying geese and half square triangles. Westalee Rulers 101 is a prerequisite for this class. Session: One 3-hr class Date: Thursday August 2 1:30p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Fee: $25, plus Binding Class: (B) Want to learn all the tips and tricks for binding quilts and projects? Then this is the class you just can t miss. Leslie will teach you the traditional binding technique plus. Shhh her cheater version. You will also learn a few other binding methods, as well as hanging sleeves, labels, info on appraisals and pretty much anything else you were afraid to ask about finishing off your projects. You will bring one of your smaller unbound quilts or runners and work on the binding techniques in class. A great opportunity to learn how to finish off all your projects with flare. Session: One 3-hr class Date: Wednesday August 1 6:30p.m.- 9:30p.m. Fee: $30, plus Beginner Machine Quilting: (B) Learn the basics of machine quilting including in the ditch, crosshatching, stippling and free motion. Session: Two 3-hr classes Dates: Tuesday July 10 & 24 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Fee: $40 plus July Shop Hop July 3-31, 2018 Westalee Rulers 201: (I) Teacher: Tori Now that you re comfortable with the 12 arc template, move on to the 6-piece Template Sampler set. Meet the different template families such as Spin-an-Echo, Spin-E-Fex, Simple Circles, Spirals, Arcs and Clamshells. You ll be creating beautiful intricate quilting designs in no time! Westalee Rulers 101 is a pre-requisite for this class. Session: Two 3-hr classes Dates: Friday July 6 & 20 6:30p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Fee: $35, plus - Begin at any of the participating shops - The event is FREE, there is no charge for your passport or block kits - Each shop you visit will give you their block pattern and fabric kit FREE - Receive a stamp on your shop hop passport when you visit a shop - Visit 7 or more shops and be entered into the draw to win Second or Third Prize - Visit all 14 shops and be entered in the draw to win First, Second or Third Prize Check out all the details on

3 Sewing & Machine Embroidery 3 Pattern Hack Top: (B) Teacher: Terri Take a basic pattern & create a one of a kind top for yourself. See how dividing your top into coordinating pieces can make your outfit as individual as you are! Use your serger to quickly complete it. This can be done on your sewing machine as well, but why not try one of our sergers? Session: One 6- hr classes Date: Saturday August a.m. 4 p.m. Fee: $45 plus Design Divas Machine Embroidery Drop In: (B) Teacher: Sharon/Terri Sewing Room Wallhanging: (B/I) Teacher: Terri Learn to quilt in the hoop. Learn how to do applique in the hoop, raw edge appliqué, puffy appliqué & reverse appliqué. Work with metallic threads. Learn which stabilizers, batting & backing to use. This is a fun project to have you make friends with your embroidery machine. Session: Two classes Dates: Saturday July 28 SAVE 10% By registering for classes by June a.m. 3 p.m. and Friday August 10 6:30 p.m. 9:30 p.m. Fee: $55 plus This club is for the embroidery machine owner who would like to learn about their machine from editing, computer work, downloading, saving designs, threads, stabilizer and using embroidery designs in different applications. Whatever you re working on or any machine embroidery technique you want to learn - we are here to help! Date: 4th Wednesday of the Month 5 p.m.-10 p.m. Fee: $35 per class, please register at least one week in advance to guarantee your spot Embroidery Make & Takes: (B) Just starting with your embroidery machine? Or do you want to see what an embroidery machine can do? Join us for this quick, fun class; Take these quick to stitch ironing pads with you to sewing or quilting classes to easily press seams while at your machine. Keep one near your embroidery machine to press while stitching. Our quick to stitch device cord wrap holds your cords neatly. The wrapper attaches to the cord so you can t lose it. Tired of the kids or your husband using your good scissors to cut paper, wire, etc! Our quick to stitch tags will help identify your good scissors. They snap around the handles. Session: One 3- hr class Date: Saturday August 4 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Fee: $40 each (includes kit with ) Row by Row - Ontario June 21 - September 4, 2018 How about this a shop hop type event with no fees, no passports and all summer to play? Simply visit any of the participating shops and receive a free pattern for a row or block in a quilt. Combine your rows in any way to create a unique quilt that represents the fun you had traveling throughout the summer. Travel with friends, discover new quilt shops and have fun collecting rows! 4 4 Quilting Projects Flying Kite Quilt: (B/I) This is an Eleanor Burns pattern and is the perfect quilt to use 5 charm packs or can be made scrappy. For a planned quilt, choose your favourite fabric collection. Session: Two 3-hr classes Dates: Tuesday August 14 & 28 6:30p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Fee: $35 plus Two Colour Bargello: (I) A modern take on traditional piecing. The beauty of this particular Bargello design is that the fabric does all the visual work for you. The fact that it is made from just two fabrics makes it unique. Choose an ombre and a secondary companion fabric. Session: Three 3-hr classes Dates: Thursday July 19, August 2 & 16 6:30p.m. - 9:30 p.m.. Fee: $45 plus Spiral of Geese: (I/A) Teacher: Lorna If you love the accuracy of paper piecing, this mini quilt is for you. This 3 session class will take you through paper piecing in a circle, reverse appliqué and quilting in a circle with a walking foot using Janie Ryan s Spiral of Geese pattern. Intro to Walking Foot Quilting and Beginner Paper Piecing are pre -requisites for this class. Session: Three 3-hr classes Dates: Tuesday June 26, July 10 & 24 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Fee: $45 plus Chandelier: (B) A wonderful little project that is beginner friendly and so sweet when finished. It s made from charm squares and is set on point. What could be simpler than that! Finishes 60 X 60. Session: Three 3-hr classes Dates: Friday July 27, August 10 & 24 1:30p.m. - 4:30 p.m.. Fee: $45 plus Clubs & Block of the Months Cadence Court: (B/I) This BOM project is great to advance your paper piecing skills. Learn 12 unique wedge designs to make a modern circular design quilt. Session: Thirteen 3-hr classes Dates: 2nd Saturday of the month starting October a.m. - 1 p.m. Class fee: $130 plus Kit fee: $27.95 per month, includes book, foundation papers and fabric for complete quilt top Seeing Stars: (B/I) Who doesn't love a star quilt? This is a great pattern by Turning Twenty, featuring 6" and 12" stars that come to life along with cute pinwheels. Session: Seven 3-hr classes Dates: 3rd Thursday of the month starting September 20 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Class fee: $70 plus Kit fee: per month, includes book and fabric for complete quilt top Colour Love: (A) This quilt will be the star of the show and we ve broken it down for you in 9 manageable months as a Block of the Month. You ll get lots of practice with multiple star block techniques and this is one you will want to keep for yourself. Quilt measures 87 X93. Session: Nine 3-hr classes Dates: 1st Saturday of the month starting September 1 10 a.m. 1 p.m. Class fee: $90 plus Kit fee: $84.95 per kit (5 kits over 9 months), includes pattern and fabric for complete quilt top

5 Bags & Home Decor 5 Crazy Christmas Trees: (I) How fun is this for Christmas. If you ve never attempted a stack and whack quilt then this project is for you. I bet you can t make just one. Session: Two 3-hr classes Dates: Thursday July 26 & August 9 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Fee: $35 plus Road Trip Bag: (B/I) Just Sew, Sew, Sew: Come in and sew for the day. If you just need to get away from your daily interruptions to get your sewing done, join us on one of our sewing days. Bring in whatever project you are working on. We re here to help. We ll provide coffee, tea, and of course cookies. Come on your own or bring a friend or two! Please bring your lunch. Session: 5-hr class every Wednesday 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Fee: $25 per class Classroom Policies... Rocky Mountain Runner: (B) This has to be my favorite runner. I love it because it fits with my Get r Done style. You can whip this up in an evening or afternoon and that includes quilting it! Super simple, super fast, super cute. Session: One 3-hr class Date: Tuesday August 21 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Fee: $25 plus This bag is the perfect companion for your summer travels. It has plenty of room for all the essentials and includes pockets. Session: Three 3-hr classes Dates: Tuesday July 3, 17 & 31 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Fee: $45 plus Finish those UFOs... Private Lessons Available! Are class times not suiting your schedule? Are you looking for more one on one instruction? We offer private lessons to suit your schedule you tell us what you want to learn and we work with you to find a time suitable to your needs. Fee: $30/hr **Please note availability is dependent upon classes already scheduled. Jelly Roll Rug: (B/I) Gather your favourite jelly roll to create an adorable rug suitable for any room. Requires a machine able to stitch at least a 5 mm wide zig zag. Rent the Classroom: No Teacher Need more space for that larger project or want a fun sewing day with girlfriends but don t have the space to host? Rent our classroom! We have the tables, ironing surfaces and large cutting mats so you just have to bring your sewing machine and project to work on - we even have the tea & coffee! Fee: $100/day (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.) or $25 for 1 table/day **Please note availability is dependent upon classes already scheduled What To Bring To Each Class: Please bring a basic sewing kit to all classes. This includes: sewing machine, pins, scissors, a seam ripper, pencil, paper, cotton thread, ruler, rotary cutter, etc. Please label everything with your name. Class Registration Policy: Payment in full is required at the time of registration. This will guarantee your place in class. It is your responsibility to get any class handouts for requirements and pre-class homework if applicable. Please note most of our classes do require some homework for you to get the most out of your class. Please be sure that you are available to attend the class for which you are registered as fees cannot be refunded. Fees can be transferred to another class if you give us two weeks notice. Fees will be refunded or transferred if the class is cancelled by Kindred Spirits Quilt Co. We require a minimum number for a class to run. Please refrain from wearing perfumes to class. 6 6 Community Outreach... Thank you to everyone that volunteered to create quilts for those impacted by the tragedy in Humboldt. Kindred Spirts was thrilled to send more than 40 quilts. We just read this week that Humboldt received over 2000 completed quilts and 1000 unfinished quilt tops.
