2 Page 2 The Cube Tote Here s an new fun class for all you purse lovers. The Cube tote is such a cute and versatile little purse! It s a smaller version of the popular Tool Tote, with pockets all the way around both the outside and the inside. A heavy-duty metal stay keeps the top of the bag open for easy access. Plus there s a zipper on top to keep the tote closed. The Cube measures 10 long x 7 wide and 5 tall. Also know as the stuffed or stuffing technique, it gives motifs in your quilt a raised or puffy appearance. In this class, you ll learn to create this look by using an extra layer of batting and water-soluble thread. You ll be surprised how easy it is to get this stunning effect. You will learn to trace the patterns, fuse them, cut them out and use your machine to finish the edge of this simple pillow. Required: Pattern and rotary skills Instructor: Arlene Fee: $27 Monday, February 26; 6 pm 9 pm Free Motion Quilting Using Rulers Machine quilting using rulers on a domestic sewing machine has been getting a lot of attention in the quilting world recently. If you ve purchased the Bernina 72 foot and ruler kit and want to get started using them, this 2-session class is for you. In the first 3-hour class, you ll learn how to use the Bernina rulers and practice on muslin. You ll play with the 5 rulers that come in the Bernina starter set. In the second 3-hour class, you ll work with the rulers on a simple table runner you ve made prior to class. Working with rulers will open a whole new world of fee-motion quilting to you. It take a little practice, but once you get the hang of it, you ll be hooked. They are designed by Laura Heine. We will make one of the fish placemats in class, you will learn about color placement and fused raw edged quilting so you will be able to finish the others at home. Friday, February 23; 10:30 am 2:30 pm Stash Class - Mexican Fiesta How do I use my stash or all those leftovers from finished projects? I ll give you hints on how to pick and cut ahead so you can get most of a quilt top done in 4 hours. Instructor: Marilyn Fee: $36 Sunday, March 4; 9 am 1 pm Beginner Machine Quilting I Your quilt top is finally pieced and your pattern ends with those three scary words quilt as desired. Now what? Take a deep breath, drop those feed dogs and start machine quilting! In this class, you ll learn to free-motion quilt some basic designs including curved lines, meandering, echoing, and loops. 4 Page 4 Learn to Paper Piece Strippy Placemats We love the precision you can achieve with paper piecing and it s easy once you know how. In this class you can use your new skill to embellish placemats. Required: Pattern and rotary skills Instructor: Arlene Fee: $27 Monday, March 19; 6 pm 9 pm Hip Hop Here's another quilt from Laura Heine, in her signature collage style, this time smaller than her Lulu the elephant, and a great way to learn the technique. We have a limited number of kits (reserve one soon!), or use your own fabrics, especially if you have smaller scraps you'd like to use up. Required pattern: Hip Hop from Fiberworks Instructor: Eve Fee: $36 Sunday, March 25; 12 pm 4 pm Square Tuffet As with the very successful round tuffet class, the square tuffet will require sewing skills. With the use of templates, you will cut out all the pieces you need to finish your unique piece of furniture. The remainder of our time is spent learning how to sew 1/4 of your tuffet cover together. This will give you the confidence to go home and sew the remaining 3 sections. In the second class, we get out the power tools and you put it all together. If this sounds interesting, then this is the class for you. In just two classes you will create your own unique tuffet. If you know how to use a rotary cutter and can sew a straight line, the class will be nothing but fun. In the first class you learn the technique to make the cover to your tuffet. You will then have time to complete your cover before the second class. The second class we put it all together. Required: Upholstery kit - $120 fee payable to the instructor. 5 Page 5 Quilts for Kids On the first Tuesday of each month a group of charity-minded quilters meets at PQW to sew together for the organization, Quilts for Kids. Quilts are given to children who are ill, abused, or in difficult situations who could use the comfort of a quilt made for them. Experienced quilters only, please. Please bring your lunch or snack, your machine and sewing supplies. Quilt kits will be provided. Our monthly group is open to anyone who would like to join and learn English Paper Piecing (EPP). This quilt-along lasts 5 sessions. In this club you will receive EPP advice from the instructor, see what others are making, and sit and stitch for two uninterrupted hours. Along the way you will visit with friends old and new, learn the benefit of slow sewing and make a lovely project by hand. **If you are new to English Paper piecing, you must attend a how-to session for an additional fee. No-shows forfeit any refund or exchange. Private Class For times when a regularly scheduled class just won t do, we offer private classes to fill the void. Let s say that a class you're interested in requires rotary skills, and you re still snipping along with scissors. Well a 1-hour private class will bring you up to speed. Or say that you really want to get the hang of paper-piecing or some other skill. Or maybe our classes just don t fit in your schedule.
