Now what? Take a deep breath, drop those feed dogs and start machine quilting! In this class, you ll learn to free-motion quilt some basic designs including curved lines, meandering, echoing, and loops. We ll also discuss needles, threads, batting and tension. This simple yet striking quilt will look great in any combination of fabrics you choose. You ll start right at the beginning learning rotary cutting, accurate seaming, block construction, quilt assembly, and settings and borders. Cartwheels Paper Piecing Paper piecing is an easy way to create blocks with unusual patterns and images that can t be achieved with traditional piecing methods. Using the Cartwheels pattern we will practice the method with smaller units that are joined to make a whole block. This is a technique only class you may start working on the entire quilt or just use some fabric to practice the skill. Pattern required. We can no longer resist the pull of English Paper piecing, and have become Smitten with the pattern designed by Lucy Carson Kingwell, daughter of famous Moda designer Jen Kingwell. Lucy is famous for her beautiful scrappy, hand pieced quilts. Three of us in the shop have begun our own Smitten quilts, each measures 48 x 61, and each using our own choice of favorite fabrics and styles. Using a riot of fabrics is key, and you can use your stash or add new selections to it. Will you be Smitten? 3 Page 3 Quilts for Kids On the first Tuesday of each month a group of charity-minded quilters meets at PQW to sew together for the organization, Quilts for Kids. Quilts are given to children who are ill, abused, or in difficult situations who could use the comfort of a quilt made for them. Experienced quilters only, please. Please bring your lunch or snack, your machine and sewing supplies. Quilt kits will be provided. Please register ahead so we know how many to expect. Let s say that a class you're interested in requires rotary skills, and you re still snipping along with scissors. Well a 1-hour private class will bring you up to speed. Or say that you really want to get the hang of paper-piecing or some other skill. Or maybe our classes just don t fit in your schedule. Talk to any one of us and we ll find you the right person at the right time to teach you what you need to know. $25 per hour per person. Policy for class registration You must pay for a class in full in order to receive the class supplies list and to reserve your place. You may register by phone, on line, or in the store. If you need to cancel, please do so at least 10 days prior to the first class in order to receive a full refund. If an emergency arises and you cancel less than 10 days before the first class, but at least one day before, a class certificate will be issued. Please use this for emergencies only as late cancellations can be problems for us. All books and patterns and some special tools required for a class can be purchased at a 20% discount after paid registration. Check that class enrollment minimums have been met before purchasing supplies. Tuffet We are always looking for new ways to use fabric. Wouldn t it be fun to use our favorite fabric to make a piece of furniture? If this sounds interesting then this is the class for you. In just two classes you will create your own unique tuffet. If you know how to use a rotary cutter and can sew a straight line, the class will be nothing but fun. In the first class you learn the technique to make the cover to your tuffet. You will then have time to complete your cover before the second class. The second class we put it all together. Go to the website for more ideas. With the use of templates, you will cut out all the pieces you need to finish your unique piece of furniture. The remainder of our time is spent learning how to sew 1/4 of your tuffet cover together. This will give you the confidence to go home and sew the remaining 3 sections. In the second class, we get out the power tools and you put it all together. Go to the website for more ideas. Beaches and Cottages Workshop Paper-piece your dream vacation! This one has it all: cool blue ocean, warm sandy beaches, swaying palm trees and colorful cabanas. (Yes those are seagulls you hear!) Snowflake Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! In this class, you ll make a cute little snowflake centerpiece. It looks difficult to make, but it really isn t. Simply fold and press pieces of fabric, sew some straight lines and then fold and press the fabric pieces again. Using muslin as a base, you ll draw guide lines to help you accurately place your folded fabrics to form snowflakes. Choose from 3 different snowflake designs. This class will also cover how to make bias binding. Pat-

You ll be making twelve 10-inch blocks, but every 3 months you will also get a 15 bonus block, for a look unlike anything we have done before. Saturday Sampler is a PQW 12 month program. On the second Saturday of each month (or the Thursday and Friday before) you will attend a demonstration session of the construction of a quilt block, and then receive the fabric to make one yourself. Seeing Spots This quilt appears to be made by creating hexagons from the 60 degree triangles, and then sewing everything together. Then we ll schedule 2 private hours with you and a Bernina educator to begin exploring with you all you d like to learn. From there you ll be guided into more private or small group classes to go as far as you d like. Quiltmaking Skills Special attention to those features on your Bernina that are especially useful in quilting. Piecing, machine appliqué, free-motion quilting, and using the walking foot are covered. We ll include the BSR if you have one. Embroidery Basics Learn to find, set up, and manipulate designs, and stitch them out with success. Unravel the mysteries of threads, stabilizers, and hooping. For machines with embroidery units. More Embroidery Techniques Learn to do embroidered appliqué (our favorite!) while you dig deeper into your machine s embroidery features and perfect your skills. Take basics class first. My Bernette When you purchase your Bernette from PQW, we will arrange your individual or small class sessions to fit your schedule. My Bernina 7 and 8 Series The Newest 7and 8 Series machines have their own unique features and we ll tailor your sessions to them. Software Sampler Club 2014 A monthly club that will explore Bernina Embroidery Software 7. Each month we will watch a video presented by Amanda Whitlatch of Bernina of America, covering some component of Software 7. You will receive a CD that will include a Power- Point of the video, written instructions and project suggestions. Then we will walk through the lessons ourselves. Bring your laptop with the software installed, if you have it. But this is also a great opportunity to see what Bernina Embroidery Software 7 is all about even if you do not yet own it.
