In this class, you ll learn to freemotion quilt some basic designs including curved lines, meandering, echoing, and loops. We ll also discuss needles, threads, batting and tension. Choose your fabrics ahead of time, then come to class ready to sew your alreadycut by us quilt. The pattern is our Easy Up to the Bar design. This table runner could be traditional or modern depending on your fabric selections. This class will revolutionaize the way you make combination blocks. 2 Classes in GREEN are great for Beginners! New Class! Kids Sewing Class This year Pennington Quilt Works is offering a sewing camp for kids filled with fun and creative projects. We will focus on learning basic sewing skills and build on those skills as the week progresses. The goal of the class is that each student will go home everyday with a completed project and a sense of accomplishment. By the end of the week she or he will possess the skills and confidence to sew gifts for friends and family, decorative pillows and other projects inspired by creativity. Open to ages 9 to 16. Infinite Horizons A NEW scrappy quilt for beginners, designed to take you from cutting fabric to learning how to put on a binding. In this class, you ll learn to make this sweet strawberry block using a variety of piecing methods. This is a great scrap project start pulling those reds, pinks and greens now! You ve taken a beginner Machine Quilting class, practiced your stippling and looping and now you are ready to move on to some new designs. In this class, we ll cover spirals and spiral variations, circles and pebbles, sashing fillers, combining designs and more. Basket Weave Big, bold and wonderfully modern, this quilt will show what you can achieve with a few strips and an octagon! We will start with an octagon template and use a 90 degree triangle to make this interesting block. The offcuts can be sewn into nine-patch blocks for a small lap quilt or you can use them to make a pieced quilt back instead. Required: sewing and rotary skills, book. 3 Page 3 Quilts for Kids On the first Tuesday of each month a group of charity-minded quilters meets at PQW to sew together for the organization, Quilts for Kids. Quilts are given to children who are ill, abused, or in difficult situations who could use the comfort of a quilt made for them. Experienced quilters only, please. Please bring your lunch or snack, your machine and sewing supplies. Quilt kits will be provided. Please register ahead so we know how many to expect. Private Class For times when a regularly scheduled class just won t do, we offer private classes to fill the void. Let s say that a class you're interested in requires rotary skills, and you re still snipping along with scissors. Well a 1-hour private class will bring you up to speed. Or say that you really want to get the hang of paper-piecing or some other skill. Or maybe our classes just don t fit in your schedule. Talk to any one of us and we ll find you the right person at the right time to teach you what you need to know. $25 per hour per person. Policy for class registration You must pay for a class in full in order to receive the class supplies list and to reserve your place. You may register by phone, on line, or in the store. If you need to cancel, please do so at least 10 days prior to the first class in order to receive a full refund. If an emergency arises and you cancel less than 10 days before the first class, but at least one day before, a class certificate will be issued. Please use this for emergencies only as late cancellations can be problems for us. All books and patterns and some special tools required for a class can be purchased at a 20% discount after paid registration. Check that class enrollment minimums have been met before purchasing supplies. retreat. The small bag is great for everyday use. There are lots of pockets inside and pretty buttons for decoration. This project is a great way to use up your leftover batting. You can use a jelly roll or 2 1/2 strips from your stash. Pattern required. You'll be using strip piecing techniques, oversizing units for easy trim down and no "Y" seams. Deb Tucker s Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star tool is designed to give you the choice of 10 different size blocks that range from 3" to 12" finished. Our class project is a sampler of all the available size options so you'll get a chance to try them all and end up with a marvelous wall quilt. This technique class will teach you how to use the Curve-it-Up ruler to create a beautiful and different sampler quilt. Curve -it-up ruler and Curve-it-Up pattern required. Instructor: Lynne, $45, Sunday May 3, 10-3 Tuffet We are always looking for new ways to use fabric. Wouldn t it be fun to use our favorite fabric to make a piece of furniture? If this sounds interesting then this is the class for you. In just two classes you will create your own unique tuffet. If you know how to use a rotary cutter and can sew a straight line, the class will be nothing but fun. In the first class you learn the technique to make the cover to your tuffet. You will then have time to complete your cover before the second class. The second class we put it all together. Go to the website for more ideas. Not only is each bowl unique, but they are a lot of fun to make. You ll make a medium-sized bowl with handles. Book required. Instructor: Sue, $45, Sunday June 7, 11-4 Orange Peels and Improv Orange peels are beautiful and striking traditional blocks that can be manipulated in exciting ways. Here we ll use them with improvisational piecing to make a baby quilt that you ll be proud to show off. In class 1 you ll learn the stitch and flip method for making the orange peels. Make some in class and the rest at home. In class 2 you ll use your low-volume prints to stitch them into a quilt top that is uniquely your own. For intermediate sewists. Each month for five month you will receive a design download, plus expert guidance from Patty. Each of the intricate block is created (pieced, appliqued, and quilted) in your embroidery hoop, then assembled with a very special technique. All embroidery formats are included. We've made ours using 36 9" squares, plus border squares, but the designs are also available in smaller sizes for smaller hoops. The design downloads will include all formats. Our quilt will finish at 70" x 70" but other finishing options are available. Experience with your embroidery machine is needed. Northern Neighbors A spectacular Maple Leaf quilt that can be made in one of two sizes, just in time for fall! You could even choose to make just one block and frame it for a pretty wall quilt or keep on going to produce either a sizeable twin or king size quilt. You can elect to go with the pictured Red and White, with Batiks (love this) or with your Modern Quilt Guild Monthly Meetings, Second Tuesday 7-9 pm April 14, May 12, June 9, July 14 Modern quilting is a new and rapidly growing movement in the quilting world. The Modern Quilt Guild is made up of over 100 guilds across the country and world. In this class you will learn how to machine embroider a cupcake themed mug rug entirely in-the-hoop (10 other mug rugs are included in the design pack). Migrating Geese Learn a great technique for making pieced border strips, modern strip quilt, etc. A great looking pieced strip that can be used for borders or rows. Cathy will teach you new tips for quilting, help you create a cute pouch, and take it home too, while having fun! At pick up, one of our Bernina specialists will spend some time with you to be sure you know the basics of running your machine. Then we ll schedule 2 private hours with you and a Bernina educator to begin exploring with you all you d like to learn. From there you ll be guided into more private or small group classes to go as far as you d like. Here are the areas you can expect to cover in classes: Sewing Machine Basics Machine Basics covering basic operations, practical applications and machine care. Stitching Fun Decorative stitching, memory, alphabets, combi-mode and special techniques. For all electronic machines. Quiltmaking Skills Special attention to those features on your Bernina that are especially useful in quilting. Piecing, machine appliqué, free-motion quilting, and using the walking foot are covered. We ll include the BSR if you have one. Embroidery Basics Learn to find, set up, and manipulate designs, and stitch them out with success. Unravel the mysteries of threads, stabilizers, and hooping. For machines with embroidery units. More Embroidery Techniques Learn to do embroidered appliqué (our favorite!) while you dig deeper into your machine s embroidery features and perfect your skills. Take basics class first. My Bernette When you purchase your Bernette from PQW, we will arrange your individual or small class sessions to fit your schedule. My Bernina 7 and 8 Series The Newest 7and 8 Series machines have their own unique features and we ll tailor your sessions to them. Software Sampler Club 2014 A monthly club that will explore Bernina Embroidery Software 7. Each month we will watch a video presented by Amanda Whitlatch of Bernina of America, covering some component of Software 7. You will receive a CD that will include a Power- Point of the video, written instructions and project suggestions. Then we will walk through the lessons ourselves. Bring your laptop with the software installed, if you have it. But this is also a great opportunity to see what Bernina Embroidery Software 7 is all about even if you do not yet own it. Don t have a Bernina? That s okay.
