Holly, NJ Fall 2018 Dear Friends, Summer is beginning to wind down and I notice that the evenings are getting cooler. My classroom is beginning to look like a 4 th grade classroom and Labor Day is right around the corner. We have been busy designing a fall curriculum of classes that will help you accomplish the type of quilting and sewing you would like to do. We have everything from penguins to beautiful floral dresses, which are quite the rage now, see the August issue of Vogue. We also have organizing totes and stylish bags, easy projects for gifts and items to add seasonal color to your homes. The shop is full of holiday inspiration and kits for quilts, table runners and bags. Stop by for a visit and a chat, you know we love to see you in the Village. 2 Machine Quilting w/style Sue 1 session SMR Wed. 9/ pm or Sun. 11/ pm $ book + fabric + supplies If you re interested in quilting with your home sewing machine, this class is for you! You ll learn some basic walking-foot and free-motion techniques from Christa Watson s book, Machine Quilting with Style. We ll work on small samples, and then you can use the techniques on your own quilts or try some of the 12 projects included in the book. This class will help you gain confidence and discover the fun of machine quilting! (Walking Foot and Free Motion Foot Required) Paper Piecing Beginner (Tree) Kim 1 session SMR Fri. 10/5 10-1pm or Wed. 11/7 5-8 pm or Mon. 11/ pm $ pattern + fabric + supplies Come join me in learning the technique of paper piecing and making beautiful tree to decorate you wall. Once you learn, you will love to paper piece. My First Quilt - Friendship Star Sue 3 session SMR Mon. 9/10, 9/17, 9/24 & 10/1 1:30-3:30 pm or Wed. 10/10, 10/17, 10/24 & 10/ pm $ book + fabrics + supplies Join Sue for the third in this series of beginner classes. We ll use Pat Sloan s new book, Teach Me to Make My First Quilt. No quilting experience required and you can take one or more of these classes to learn basic skills or brush up on your techniques. They are all for beginning quilters, but those with a little more experience may also enjoy the quick and fun projects! In this class, you will make a 40 x 40 quilt that can become a small lap quilt, baby quilt or wall hanging, depending on your choice of fabrics! You will learn how to rotary cut fabric, piece your blocks, work with triangles and a little basic appliqué, machine quilt and bind your quilt. We ll help you choose your favorite fabrics and make it your own!

3 Penguin Party Quilt Sue 1 session SMR Skill Level: Intermediate Mon. 10/ pm $ pattern + fabric + supplies Brickyard Sat. 9/22 10 am -1:30 pm $ pattern + fabric + supplies This quilt s adorable patchwork penguins are made using conventional piecing techniques no paper piecing! Made with fat quarters, and you can choose one of our kits or your favorite fabrics to make the jaunty printed bodies! This class will focus on construction of the face and body. If you have good basic rotary cutting and accurate piecing skills, you ll find these fun little penguins are not difficult to make. The pattern has options for a pillow, child quilt (50 x50 ) or lap quilt (60 x60 ) You are not going to believe how fast this quilt goes together. The top can be made in a day. Five fabrics one yard cuts No seams to match (Kits are available at The Village Quilter. Mini Trees Curved Runner Sat. 10/27 10 am-3 pm $35.00 (pattern included) + fabric + supplies Runner uses Sew Kind of Wonderful Mini Quick Curve Ruler. You will learn how to use the Mini QCR to cut curves easily and thereby reduce cutting & sewing time. The technique can be used to produce a variety of quilt blocks. Birthday Cake Runner Sue 1 session SMR Wed. 9/ pm or Sun. 9/23 1-3pm $ book + fabrics + supplies Celebrate a special birthday (or other special event with a Birthday Cake runner using the Layered Cakes technique from Karen Eckmeier s new book, Wiggles and Waves. We are offering several classes from this book. Top-stitched curves on each cake layer go together quickly to make this fun design. Then embellish the frosting with trim, buttons, beads, embroidery, etc. You can choose traditional birthday cake colors or customize it for a that special person in your life! Finished size: approx. 12 x 48.

4 Chambray Dress Betsy 1 Session SMR Skill Level: Intermediate (with some experience making cloths) Thurs., 9/20 10 am-2 pm (Class limited to 4) $ Book + fabric + supplies This dress is a shift style with three-quarter sleeves and a knee-length hem. The store sample is made out of cotton chambray, but the dress could be made in a knit, denim or light wool for the cooler days ahead. It is trimmed with bias that can be contrasting or the same as the dress. The pattern, which comes from the book, Handmade Style, is multi-sized, from XS to 2XL. Wire-Framed Tote Sat. 11/17 11am 5:30 pm $ pattern + fabric + supplies Terrific totes in three handy sizes carry all sorts of goodies. A wire frame at the top edge makes the totes extra sturdy. Remove the wire frame and they re washable! Hook & Loop tape holds the wire frame securely in place. A medium Tote will be made in class. Color Play Vest Betsy 1 Session SMR Skill Level: Intermediate (with some experience making clothes) Sun. 10/ pm (Class Limited to 4) $ pattern + fabric + supplies Snowman Handy Basket This vest can be constructed from one fabric or several different ones. The shape and design of the garment lend itself to piecing and embellishment. The vest's edges are finished by zig-zag stitch or using a serge foot) This is an ideal project to use all of those great decorative stitches on your machine! Sat. 12/8 11am -5:30pm $ pattern + fabric + supplies Handy Baskets for the Holidays. Fun baskets with unlimited uses. Cords, treats, bread, napkins, plants at work & makes a great gift.

Betsy 1 Session SMR Sun. 11/ pm $ pattern + fabrics + supplies Just in time for the holidays, we offer this class, which includes your choice of pattern: Sassy Little Sisters Child's Apron, Sassy Little Apron (Adults), and the Church Lady Apron, which is reversible. Make these aprons in our lovely holiday fabrics or a design more suitable for year round. Aprons make ideal holiday and hostess gifts, and it's nice to have one for yourself too. Snowman Applique Tea Towel Kim 1 Session SMR Wed. 10/17 2:30-5:30 pm or Thurs. 11/8 2:30-5:30 pm or Mon. 12/ pm $ pattern + fabric + supplies Brighten your winter with a machine applique whimsical snowman dishtowel. The pattern also includes directions for 2 wall quilts or a table runner. T-Shirt Quilt Joyce 1 sessions SMR Thurs. 9/ pm $ pattern + fabric + supplies XBlock Runner I know you have been waiting to figure out what to do with all those t-shirts. This class will begin with preparing the t-shirts and deciding on a layout. We will begin to piece in the 2nd class. It will go together like a puzzle and you will determine what that final puzzle will look like. Half the fun of creating your own t-shirt quilt is reliving the memories and creating something that is truly unique. Kim 1 session SMR Thur. 10/25 2:30-5:30 pm or Mon. 11/5 5-8 pm $ ruler + fabric + supplies Create dozens of exciting new quilt designs with just one tool. Strips or easy-to-piece blocks can be transformed into XBlocks in seconds and fabulous borders are created as you make your blocks. This quilted bag will quickly become a favorite bag for everything. Classic Coffee Cake Quilt Sue 3 Sessions SMR Skill Level: Advanced Beginner Mon. 10/22, 10/29 & 11/5 1:30-3:30 pm $ pattern + fabrics + supplies Are you a beginner quilter who s ready to extend your skills or a more experienced quilter looking for a refresher or a quick project to use your pre-cuts? Join Sue for a 3-week class to make this classic design in your favorite style! Perfect for 10 squares, but you can also use 2 1/2 strips or yardage. You should have some basic rotary cutting skills for this class.

7 Art Quilt Club All Levels The Art Quilt Club is a monthly club for quilters/sewers/artists interested in exploring a new style. Club meets the first Thursday of each month from 2-4 pm or 6:30-8:30 pm. Members will sign up for a 6-month membership for $30.00 and work on projects based on the group s interests. No experience required - new members welcome!! 1st Thursday of each month 2-4 pm or 6:30-8:30 pm $ for 6 months membership!! Contact the shop for to see what sessions have space. NEW Scrap Sisters (formerly known as Jo s Little Women s Club) Join us as we meet once a month to create small scrap quilts. You will be inspired with tips, tricks, demos, free drawings and a little history of textiles. Show and tell is encouraged. As we change our name, we will be using the book, Little Handful of Scraps by Edyta Sitar as our guide. Registration is required, as there are some openings, check with the shop to see if a time works for you. This is a great club that enjoys the process of making small scrap quilts and wonderful friends! Tea & Applique Club Tues. 9/4, 10/2, 11/6 & 12/4. Jan will be Wed. Jan. 2 10:30-12:30 Class 10:30am-12:30pm Fee $5 each class This club meets the first Tuesday of each month from 10:30-12:30 to work on appliqué techniques & projects. Appliqué club open to anyone interested in sharing ideas and refining appliqué skills. We love to share with beginners. Join the fun and the fellowship & Tea!!!
