1 January, February and March workshop list OliVen Patchwork and felting Sewing for Charity Wednesdays at 10 3:30 PM - 11th Jan, 8th Feb and 8th March After great success with Twiddle quilts, we decided to work on three different projects in Dresses for Africa made from pillow cases, Sanitary pads for girls in Africa (so they don t need to drop out of school when their period starts) and last but not least we will make Heart shape cushions for breast cancer patients. These days are free and we welcome everybody no matter your sewing experience! Or you can help us by donating pillow or duvet cases, towels, flannel material or stuffing / cushion fillings. Whether you want to start a new project or need to finish one started long time ago, whether it s a piece of clothing, cushion, bag or a quilt, whatever the project, no matter how big or small, let s finish it together! Club is run fortnightly on Wednesdays and Thursdays and monthly on Saturdays. You can book on regular basis or just pick the dates which suits you. Vendulka is available all day for advice. Or a favourite piece of clothing you would like in another colour? What about some mending or alternations waiting to be done? If you need a help with any dressmaking, bring it in on one of these days and we ll help you make it! All skills welcomed Price 35

2 Introduction to free machine quilting Tue 17th Jan OR, Fri 3rd Feb OR Fri 24th March at 10-1PM Are you frightened about free-machine quilting? This is your chance to face your fear and build your confidence with an experienced tutor. This is an ongoing class, up to 4 different lessons, come to one or all four. All skills levels Price 20 per session Quilted Feathers Tuesdays 7th AND 21st February at 10-1PM Are you ready to move further with your free motion quilting and have a play with feathers?? From simple ones to more complicated designs we will try them all. Some experience with free motion quilting needed. Intermediate Price 35 Patchwork - 3 day workshop Thursdays 5th AND 19th January AND 2nd February at 10-4 PM This workshop is for those of you wanting to learn the basics of patchwork and soon move onto their own projects - 4 different blocks to start you off, teaching you the essentials from start to finish. Complete Price 85 Bags for every day Wednesday 25th January at 10-4 PM There is the Bucket bag and Handbag with flap or Bag made of Squares for you to choose from two of them can be turned inside out to have another bag. With the right choice of colours you can have two bags in one. Price 35

3 Cushions in bloom Friday 10th March at 10-4 PM Fabric manipulation and floral design is what these three cushions have in common. Come to the shop and have a look which one is the one you d like to do. Price 35 Embroidered Curves - cushion or book cover Saturday 21st January at 10-4 PM Friday 17th March at 10-4 PM Curved piecing, fancy stitches on your machine and optional hand embroidery if you wish to decorate it further - those three techniques are used to create decorative cloth which we will turn into a cushion or a book cover. No need of previous embroidery experience. Price 35 Cathedral Window techniques Friday 6th January at 10-4 PM My very favourite technique led me to create several different cushions and wall hanging, choose which is your favourite and your colours and come and learn this interesting technique. Intermediate Price 35 Field of Poppies - embroidered picture Tuesday 28th February at 10-4 PM Come and make this beautiful picture as a present for your loved ones or yourself! It a s lovely introduction into embroidery as it s using few simple stitches. Bring your own materials or purchase a kit. Price 35 Felted background only 8 Kit (background, beads, embroidery threads) 15

4 Creative quilting and painting wall hanging Tuesdays 21st AND 28th March at 10-4 PM This creative wall hanging is made over two days. First day we design it and start quilting using machine Trapunto for raised effects. Second day we add piped binding and paint it using Markal Paint sticks and Marabu liners. One paint stick and one liner for you to take home included in the price. Intermediate Price 70 Play with liners Saturday 14th January at 10-4 PM Wednesday 22nd February at 10-4 PM Marabu liners are great to add a bit of interest and sparkle to your work - they can be used on textiles, paper, wood, plastic etc. Come and play with them and create this lovely feather or for those with less free motion experience there is a simpler design of a tree or bring your own project. One liner included in the price of the class. Confident Price 38 Painted Bondaweb and foil on fabric Saturday 11th February at 10-4 PM Wednesday 22nd March at 10-4 PM Painted Bondaweb is a wonderful way to add an interesting colour and texture into your work. We will also play with adding foil onto fabric for a proper bling. Come and have an experimental day to see what these techniques have to offer. Price 35 Play with Oil Paintsticks Tuesday 10th January at 10-1 PM Friday 10th February at 10-1 PM Come and play with Markal Oil Paintsticks, we ll be using rubbing plates, stencil brushes, and having fun decorating fabrics. All equipment provided. Price 25

5 Exploring Faux Chenille Friday 20th January at 10-4 PM Saturday 25th February at 10-4 PM Several layers of fabric, stitched through, then slashed and cut away, if you like creativity and playfulness with fabric, this is a class for you. Confident beginners Price 35 Binding Techniques Friday 13th January at 10-4 PM Saturday 25th March at 10-4 PM Should I use a single or a double binding? Why not lift the binding with a contrast coloured piping? What if the quilt is double sided, or it has round or scalloped edges?? How about neat edge without a binding!? And most importantly: how do I do the mitred corners?? If you are confused now, by the end of this class you will know it all! Price 35

6 Clare Kiely felt making workshops Taster felting day Saturday 28th January Morning session 10:30-12:45 PM Afternoon session: 1:15-3:30 PM Have you always wanted to try felt making? This half a day session will enable you to try basic felting techniques. Or you can stay for full day and make a small 3D object such as bowl or glasses case in the afternoon. 8 Terms: To reserve your place on any of the workshops, please, call into the shop or telephone or us at Full payment within 10 days of booking to secure your place on the workshop needed. Cancellation with 2 weeks notice - we will refund your payment or offer you a place on a future workshop. Cancellations within 13-8 days of the workshop we will refund 50% of the payment. Last minute cancellations, ie. 7 days or less before a workshop we re afraid we cannot refund any payments as from experience we ve found it impossible to fill places at such short notice. Full refund for cancelation under 14 days possible if we replace you. Thank you for understanding with these formalities. A requirement list will be given at the time of booking. The cost of supplies and fabrics are not included in the cost of workshop unless stated. If you purchase your supplies for the workshop at OliVen you will receive 5% discount.
