This simple yet striking quilt will look great in any combination of fabrics you choose. You ll start right at the beginning learning rotary cutting, accurate seaming, block construction, quilt assembly, and settings and borders. At the end of class, you ll have your quilt top done and ready for quilting. Requires pattern. Now what? Take a deep breath, drop those feed dogs and start machine quilting! In this class, you ll learn to freemotion quilt some basic designs including curved lines, meandering, echoing, and loops. We ll also discuss needles, threads, batting and tension. Instructor: Sue, $36, Saturday March 7, Your First Quilt Now Find out if quilting is for you by taking our two sessions, no commitment class! Choose your fabrics ahead of time, then come to class ready to sew your already-cut by us quilt. The pattern is our Easy Up to the Bar design. You ll be piecing the bars and adding borders, then doing the quickest finishing ever. Go home after the second session with your very own quilt. All you need to make the blocks for this quilt is one jelly roll and 1 1/2 yards of background fabric. Very little fabric remains. There is no waste. It is a very traditional quilt, but the scrappiness makes it uniquely yours. This quilt is simple, scrappy and stunning. The piano key border perfectly compliments the diversity of the fabric in the quilt blocks. This is an advanced beginner class. Instructor: Arlene, $36, Thursday February 5 OR Sunday February 8, 12:30-4:30 This class is designed to help you work through the Lollypop Trees pattern to create this whimsical quilt. You will learn to do machine appliqué, and we ll talk about how to combine Kaffe Fassett fabrics ( or any fabrics!) to make a beautiful statement. You may decide to take the class to learn about machine appliqué and combining the fabrics before you decide whether or not to make this quilt. That is perfectly fine. When you come to class just bring the supplies on the list and wait to purchase the quilt fabrics until after the class. Instructor: Lynne, $27, Wednesday February 25, 10-1 OR Sunday March 1, 9-12 Mondo or Midi Bag Spend a day with Lynne to make one of these great bags. The Mondo bag is big enough to hold a quilt! The Midi bag is a perfect size for carry-ing all those things we can t seem to do without during the day. Both are made from scraps, jelly rolls or charm packs. The fusible interfacing (that comes with the pattern) makes it sew up fast and with precise intersections. Pattern required. Instructor: Lynne, $63, Saturday February 28, Sea Glass Sea Glass was created by Deb Tucker for Studio 180 Designs to show the versatility of the Diamond Rectangle unit, usually seen in Storm at Sea designs. This is a great example of what else you can do with this simple unit. Choose a focus print, pull some coordinating fabrics from your stash, mix everything together with a light and a dark and you're headed for a great looking quilt. As always, your units will be made oversized and then trimmed to perfection with the Diamond Rects tool. Requires Pattern, Studio 180 Design s Diamond Rects & Square 2. 3 Page 3 Quilts for Kids On the first Tuesday of each month a group of charity-minded quilters meets at PQW to sew together for the organization, Quilts for Kids. Quilts are given to children who are ill, abused, or in difficult situations who could use the comfort of a quilt made for them. Experienced quilters only, please. Please bring your lunch or snack, your machine and sewing supplies. Quilt kits will be provided. Please register ahead so we know how many to expect. Let s say that a class you're interested in requires rotary skills, and you re still snipping along with scissors. Well a 1-hour private class will bring you up to speed. Or say that you really want to get the hang of paper-piecing or some other skill. Or maybe our classes just don t fit in your schedule. Talk to any one of us and we ll find you the right person at the right time to teach you what you need to know. $25 per hour per person. Policy for class registration You must pay for a class in full in order to receive the class supplies list and to reserve your place. You may register by phone, on line, or in the store. If you need to cancel, please do so at least 10 days prior to the first class in order to receive a full refund. If an emergency arises and you cancel less than 10 days before the first class, but at least one day before, a class certificate will be issued. Please use this for emergencies only as late cancellations can be problems for us. All books and patterns and some special tools required for a class can be purchased at a 20% discount after paid registration. Check that class enrollment minimums have been met before purchasing supplies. Row-By-Row Skill Building Quilt Five blocks, especially chosen to teach a wide array of quiltmaking skills, are each made 5 times for lots of practice. Then learn how to assemble them into rows and add sashing and borders. You ll leave the class with your quilt top made and ready for quilting. For confident beginners or anyone wanting to perfect their skills. Farmhouse Table Runner This wonderful table runner uses a combination of paper piecing and traditional piecing techniques. We ll help you work through this Judy Niemeyer pattern to do template cutting and review paper piecing. Wouldn t it be fun to use our favorite fabric to make a piece of furniture? If this sounds interesting then this is the class for you. In just two classes you will create your own unique tuffet. If you know how to use a rotary cutter and can sew a straight line, the class will be nothing but fun. In the first class you learn the technique to make the cover to your tuffet. You will then have time to complete your cover before the second class. The second class we put it all together. Go to the website for more ideas. Doubly Charmed This class is a real treat as you learn how to use a number of Studio 180 Design s tools: the V Block, Corner Beam and Square2. All the tools are designed for making high precision units that when combined will make the two quilt projects, featured in one pattern, as well as many future quilts. Both projects start from a collection of 5 charm squares then you add background and an accent fabric to complete the requirements. We will be making samples of all the blocks and segments needed for both quilts, focusing on Double Cornered in the first class and Double V in the second class. Floral Burst Be amongst the first to Pop the hunter Star block with Studio 180 Designer s Rapid Fire Hunter Star and Corner Pop. You will learn how to make the Hunter Star without templates or paper piecing. Then you will pop the block to make the secondary square. The way this comes together will pop your mind. OH-HI-O My Stars : Techniques Building Series Have you started setting your quilting goals for 2015? Are any of them to gain new, refresh or sharpen your quilt piecing skills? Consider Michelle s Technique Building Series (TBS), where you will walk away with improved and honed cutting and piecing techniques. She has kept to the basic units with this TBS, however it s definitely going to challenge you in a few areas; such as cutting and piecing for five patches. Whether you are a beginner or advanced quilter, jump in with no reservations and have fun with it. For you beginners, there may be some real easy units, and then some real hard ones, but just give them a try! If you are an advanced quilter, take a little refresher on these techniques and sharpen your skills. Each Workshop is 3 hours. The TBS will have 9 blocks. You may elect to take one technique class, take a few, or take them all. Each month, at class, you will be provided a colored worksheet with cutting and piecing instructions for the featured block, which is free to students taking the class but will be offered for $8 per block worksheet to those unable to take the class. Each month, along with the picture of the quilt, we will reveal the current and following month s block in our newsletter and online. You can sign up for one workshop at a time; however seats are limited and it is on a first come, first served basis. No need to take all the classes, you may elect to make a wall hanging, baby quilt, bed runner, you decide. All 9 blocks are required for quilt pictured. Alternate settings available as well. Mad, Mad World of Color Mediterranean Hexagons Workshop Hosted by Brandon Mably Wednesday January 21, 9 am-4 pm Design a unique color way within a traditional hexagon structure. My Bernina 7 and 8 Series The Newest 7and 8 Series machines have their own unique features and we ll tailor your sessions to them. Software Sampler Club 2014 A monthly club that will explore Bernina Embroidery Software 7. Each month we will watch a video presented by Amanda Whitlatch of Bernina of America, covering some component of Software 7. You will receive a CD that will include a Power- Point of the video, written instructions and project suggestions. Then we will walk through the lessons ourselves. Bring your laptop with the software installed, if you have it. But this is also a great opportunity to see what Bernina Embroidery Software 7 is all about even if you do not yet own it.
