1 CLASS AND CLUB DESCRIPTIONS *Spring/Summer 2011* NEW! Summer Wool Appliqué BOW-PENNY GARDEN : by Lisa Bongean It is time to sign up for our Summer Block of the Week. This year I am not going to let you in on how it is going to finish up, it is going to be a mystery...but as always it will be an optional finishing kit. It will be 12 wool appliqué blocks on primitive muslin. The setting is going to be very scrappy and pieced with wool pennies in the finishing part...that s all I m telling you. You can sign up now and your first block will ship out the first week in June and remember you don t want to miss out on the freebies! Cost is $25 for the first week. Includes all the appliqué background fabric for the whole quilt, then $10 per week thereafter. Border/Finishing Kit price has not been determined yet. This might be the best Summer BOW yet! Please sign up asap so we can have enough fabric ordered for everyone to participate. The BOW cannot be combined with any other shipments, except Summer Star BOW. NEW! Summer Stars-Pieced BOW: by Carole Charles We are pleased to be able to offer a pieced block of the week this summer. Each week you will receive reproduction fabrics for 5 eight point star blocks. The blocks will finish 4 square and will be made with half square triangles-no Y seams! Although we prefer using triangle paper, traditional cutting and piecing instructions will also be included. A finishing kit will be available at the end of the summer along with ideas on how to set your star blocks. The cost per week will be $10. If you are in both BOW s they can be shipped together. The BOW cannot be combined with any other shipments. Stitcher s Gathering: We are inviting all of our Block of the Month participants to join us on the third Thursday of each month at 1:00pm with Joanne to sit and hand stitch on your current Block of the Month or catch up on one of your previous Blocks of the Month! This is a fun group and we do lots of demonstrating, talking covering everything from the latest books we ve read to the care and feeding of our families. For a little something extra this year some participants in the group are going to start making six inch blocks from the book Sylvia s Bridal Sampler from Elm Creek Quilts and bring them in for show and tell along with other projects they are working on. We love show and tell! Joanne wants you to enjoy doing Blocks of the Month as much as she does. There is no charge for participating in this group. 3 CLASS AND CLUB DESCRIPTIONS continued Working With Wool: Instructor Lisa Bongean This class is for you if you have never worked with wool before or if you are dissatisfied with your wool projects. We will cover tips and techniques to help you create many beautiful wool projects. Price includes wool kit, pattern and all the supplies needed to do a scrappy tablemat. Tuesday, July 12, 1-4pm or 6-9pm Class fee-$40 Bring a scissors Bag-ology 101: Instructor Nancy Dey This is the last of the 4-part session on bag making before we break for the summer. This next class you will learn how to use grommets in your bag projects. We have chosen "My Favorite Bag" by Kati Cupcake as the perfect choice for learning about grommets. This bag measures 18" tall x 15" wide x 5" deep and has plenty of pockets both inside and out for all the things we need to bring with us each day. We have a few openings for this class and the kits are almost ready for pick up...just waiting for a few supplies. There is minimal prep work for this class, it's a fun and easy bag to put together. Class runs May 21st, 10:00am to 3:30pm...pack a lunch. As always, you will go home with a finished bag! Piece-ful Start: Beginning Quilting: Instructor: Sharon Olski Learn a comprehensive range of basics in piecing and you will be on your way to growing creativity! In this series of four classes you will be making a lap size sampler quilt top. With each block in the project you will learn a piecing technique that is a basic in many quilt patterns. You will work on the techniques taught during class but will have sewing to do at home. In addition, you ll learn about handy tools and simple tips that other quilters use and love. When the classes are done, you and your completed quilt top will be ready to move on to the finishing and machine quilting classes. Whether you are looking for a place to start your own quilting journey or for a way to improve your piecing skills, this class can be the place for you. Prerequisites: have your own sewing machine, in good working condition, and be comfortable using it and be ready to discover just how creative you can be! Class fee: $80 plus book Class limit: 6 (minimum of 4) Wednesdays: May 11, 25 June 8, :30 What Color is Light: Instructor: Sharon Olski Whether you are a beginner or an experienced quilter, you may wonder what is considered light what is the difference between light, medium, dark do I really know? If you have questions like these, this class will help you answer your questions for choosing fabric. We will talk about ways you can make the right choices for your next project. This would be a great addition to any Beginning Class or simply a class to give you confidence in fabric selection for any project. Wednesday, May 18, 6:00-8:00 pm Class fee $15 Buggy Barn Crazy Class: Instructor Jeanine Drzewiecki If you have never done a Buggy Barn quilt before, now is your chance to learn. Select from your favorite Buggy Barn pattern and come to class to get your blocks done. I will show you how to stack your fabric, cut through your layers, shuffle your piles and sew them back together, with fast and easy tricks along the way. We have kits for the new Crazy Eights quilt available while supplies last. We will also be eating lunch so you can bring a dish to pass and share with your fellow quilters. Sunday, May 22, 10am to 4 pm Class Fee: $25 Hand Quilting, Big Stitch Style: Instructor Lisa Bongean Come learn the basics of big stitch hand quilting. We are all making these wool appliqué quilts and it s a shame to machine quilt them when it is so easy to stitch them by hand. You just need all the information and a little practice and you will thoroughly enjoy every stitch you make. Tuesday August 2nd, 6:00-8:30pm $20 3

We have designed three little quilts that are very scrappy and made using charms. We thought a Charm Swap would be a fun and different club to be are part of. You would send in 100 charms of the same fabric. For each quilt we will determine the size of the charm, it might be 5 or 5½. We are going to need 100 people to participate. Each participant will send in 100 charms. We will then sort them out and send you back 100 different charms along with the pattern for a quilt we have designed. There will be tight requirements for swapping. QUILT SHOP QUALITY fabric is a must! Fabric from Joanne s, Walmart etc. is not considered Quilt shop quality. Fabric must be 100% cotton. In order to participate in the swap you must include the selvage from your fabric that has the name of the fabric collection/designer/ manufacturer. If your fabric selvage does not have this information do not choose this fabric. Any questionable fabrics that we are unable to confirm will not be swapped and sent back to you. This is done to ensure that we are swapping Reproduction /Civil War Fabric collections that are QUILT SHOP QUALITY. You will need to purchase between 2 and 2½ yds to cut 100 charms for swapping. The cost to be part of the Charm Club will be $30 for all three patterns and swapping for pick up customers. It will be $45 for mail-in and will include all the patterns and priority mail postage for each of the three mailings back to you. The three quilts are pictured on our website where you can sign up! We will need 100 people to make this happen! The Swap will take place in June, July and August. We will communicate via after you have signed up to give you more details. Don t miss out of the fun! 4
