She is going to share with us the many ways she has discovered to make prairie points. She is a dynamic speaker and this will be a fun filled program. Bring a friend and have fun with this program!

2 Spring Time in the Carolinas Wednesday May 11 Saturday May 14, Volunteers Needed for the following: The following committees need members for the 2016 Springtime in the Carolinas quilt show: Vendors: Sue Weirsma, Chair, needs some volunteers to help during the show as Vendor Hostesses. Please see Sue to volunteer. Hostesses/White Glove Ladies: We need a chair for this committee, and have two members signed up to help, Dee Batatye and Kathy Hackett. Please think about being the chair of this committee. Hospitality: We need a chair for this committee. There are two members signed up to help the chair, Jane Ronan and Barbara Welge. Please think about being the chair of this committee. Road Signs: We need a chair and committee members for this important committee. This committee s work is the day before the show putting up directional signs and taking them down after the show. Pick Up and Delivery of Poles and Stands: We need a chair for these committees, there are two members signed up to help, Melanie Greenway and Barbara Welge. As co-chairs, Deanne and Sandy do not want to have to appoint people to do these jobs. So, as a member think about what you can do and either let them know or let the chair know. We will all have to step in and help with set-up and take-down. We will also have to work with Brenda Benfield and Amy Hudson to ensure a great Guild Boutique. The last thing we all need to do is to all take responsibility for selling a nominal amount of raffle tickets on our gorgeous raffle quilt! It is so beautiful that these tickets will sell themselves!! Sue Lester needs items for the raffle baskets. She will take material, books that look new, notions, patterns and anything else that will work with the theme of the baskets: Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring. I have a basket for Spring, Fall and Summer. I am still searching for one for Winter. So please start bringing in thing to place in each basket such as: fat quarters, patterns, novelties, small candles, coffee mugs, pins, needles, thread, etc. I will keep everything at my house and build the baskets as things come in. The more things we bring in, the bigger and more inviting the baskets look. Please make sure that anything you donate for these baskets is new, except for books that I will take if they look unused! Deanne & Sandy thank you for your commitment to our guild and to make this show a success!

4 Quilts of Valor Contact Deanne for the ongoing Quilts of Valor community quilt project. Do not forget that we have fabric for the top and back, as well as the batting, to make the QOV quilts. We just need your talent to make a quilt! MEMBERSHIP As we head into 2015 we all need to take ownership of membership. Our guilt guild needs to grow, and each of us can help. Ask a friend, neighbor, ladies you meet in quilt shops, classes, etc. to come to a meeting. Let them know what good programs we will be having and how much fun we have together! A task heavy to one is borne lightly by many! May Quilty Things To Do! Smoky Mountain Quilt Guild Quilt Show May 22-24, 2015 Hours 9-5 Friday and Saturday Cost: $5.00 We will have 200+ quilts and $6,000 in awards. There is ample parking, handicap accessible at our location, Cooper Athletic Center on the campus of Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee. We will have vendors and a small quilt sale, and on Friday we will have a bedturning by Merikay Waldvogel, a 2009 Quilters' Hall of Fame inductee. 5 Meeting Minutes The Newsletter will contain our meeting minutes at the end of each month s newsletter. Please take the time to read. If you have a correction or addition to these minutes, please bring it up in the meeting when the president asks for a vote to accept the minutes. BOD meeting minutes April 13, 2015 The BOD met before the regular meeting. Mary Jane Sexton acted as President due to Melanie being in Duke for her son s surgery. In attendance were Amy Hudson, Brenda Benfield, Martha McGinnis, Dee Batayte, Sandy Chambers, and Robin Parton. Meeting was called to order at 6:17 and there was a quorum present. The March minutes were read by Dee and Martha moved to accept and Robin seconded. Amy gave the treasures report, $ starting balance with expenses of $421.49, deposit of $40. Ending balance of $ Sandy made motion to accept and Martha seconded. Sandy presented the proposed budget for the quilt show. Motion to accept budget was made by Dee and Amy seconded. Sandy reported that Hospice has asked us to hang quilts in the Hospice House, but nothing larger than a twin. Sandy will bring this up at the general meeting. It was discussed that in order for someone to receive a Quilt of Valor that had to have served in a combat zone. It was discussed that the quilt would like to keep the quilts in the county. The quilts have to be done by Sept in order to be presented in Oct. It was again mentioned that the quilting bee needs a chair. Mary Jane reported that she checked on having a guild advertisement in the Rutherford Woman magazine, but the prices were more than the guild could afford. Mary Jane will remind the magazine that the guild is a non-profit organization and see if we could get a better deal. Meeting adjourned at 6:57. Respectively submitted by Dee Batayte, secretary

6 Rutherfordton Quilt Guild Minutes April 13, 2015 Mary Jane Sexton, in the absence of Melanie Greenway, called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. Mary Jane welcomed members and guest Emily Jane Sims to the meeting. Minutes were read and Mary Jane than asked if there were any corrections to the minutes. Being none, Donna Southworth moved to approve and Barbara Welge seconded. Amy Hudson gave the treasurers report, starting balance of $ , and ending balance of $ A motion to approve the treasurer s report was made by Margie Womack with Martha McGinnis seconding. Barbara Welge reported that she had sent a card to Dorothy Baird-McKinney because of the death of her brother. Sandy Chambers announced that she still needs some committee chairs for the quilt show. She indicated that if the positions were not filled by the next meeting, she would appoint people. Sandy announced that she would send out a note saying the guild would have a quilting bee on a certain day. Once members responded that they would like to attend, a time and place would be determined. The following members showed their challenge quilts: Connie Wells, Jeannette Auld, Barbara Welge, Martha McGinnis, Robin Parton, Sandy Chambers, Dee Batayte, Margie Womack and Yvonne Gordon. The following members had items for Show and Tell: Jane Ronan, Dee Batayte, Connie Wells, Sue Lester, and Rhona Otvos. Mary Jane asked members to pick up fabrics for Quilts of Valor and Hospice House. The following members had show and tell: Janette Auld, Connie Wells, Jane Ronan, and Dee Batayte. Mary Jane introduced our speaker for the evening: Walk on the Wool Side by Annie s Keepsakes Vicky Clontz. Vicky gave a trunk show showing traditional blanket stitch to felting, and dyeing wool with kool aid. Vicky brought many items for display and patterns for sale.
