1 Marathon Quilter s Newsletter November has two very important dates: Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. I hope you find meaning, love and much gratitude surrounding both. Our guild will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. for greetings, 7:00 p.m. for the formal start at Faith Church, 146 East Main St., Hopkinton. I hope you can all be there and welcome our guest speaker!* November Meeting We are looking forward to welcoming Ginny Radloff from Appletree Fabrics for a spectacular trunk show of Judy Niemeyer quilts! Please bring your checkbooks to renew your membership if you haven t already done so as well as any Show and Tell items you d like to share with the guild. Block Bee participants should bring Nancy's blocks to the meeting. Kerry is November's Queen Bee, so she can give out the instructions for her requested block at the meeting. We hope everyone is enjoying working on their panel challenges! As a preview for December: Many thanks to Becky for hosting our annual holiday potluck this year! Becky's address is 1038 Washington Street in Holliston. We will do our fun sock exchange again this year! Please find a fun, funky or silly pair of holiday socks and fill one with little sewing notions, small quilted items, or other little gifts. We will do an exchange during our December potluck. For consistency and affordability, please spend no more than $25 on your gift. Don't forget to put the matching sock in the toe. President s Corner I am sorry I missed the October meeting. It sounds like it was a terrific get-together and a wonderful meeting location. Following the meeting, I contacted members (via using the Membership List) to get the scoop on what I missed. I re-read the October Newsletter for planned meeting details and upcoming events. I also kept a lookout for Yahoo.com s from Marathon Quilters Group for post-meeting info. Thanks to fellow members who create and

2 monitor these communication resources, we can all be up-to-date on our Guild activities. If you are having issues receiving any of the s and/or the newsletter, please let Kerry, Cathleen or Linda know. New member welcome! Let s all do our best to warmly welcome our new members: Susan, Libby and Joanne and to welcome back Margaret. Through the guild you can take advantage of opportunities and activities to grow in your love of quilting, share your talents and interests, improve your skills, and make new friends who share your passion. Welcome! Hospitality Update: The hospitality treats at the November monthly meeting will be brought to you by Ann Vernon and Nancy Burdick. Since the December meeting will be a potluck (everyone brings something), we will turn our attention to the Hospitality calendar for We are still looking/there is still time for a few volunteers to provide sweets and or snacks for the following monthly meetings: January 8 th March 12 th April 9 th May 14 th Please let me know (nancyb88@hotmail.com) of your interest in providing some refreshments and taking care of set-up and clean-up for any of the above meetings. This could be your chance to showcase/share some great recipes with your quilting friends PolyArts Boutique Booth - Yvonne and Nancy volunteered to lead the planning Planning is soon to be underway for the 2019 PolyArts booth inventory and sales. Yvonne and Nancy will keep the guild up to date with inventory needs and plans, and there might even be a Boutique workshop in the near future Nancy +A side note on behalf of the Guild: a HUGE thank you to Yvonne and Nancy! The money made during PolyArts helps support the guild and allows us to bring engaging, useful and inspirational activities each year. Quilt Retreat Karen has planned a quilt retreat for the weekend of the 14th through the 17th of February at West Pond Inn in Bolton. In order to book the weekend and reserve your spot, kindly let Karen know (karenswiech@gmail.com), fill out the registration form (attached) and send her a deposit of $75 immediately. Checks should be made payable to Susan Loring. Just to clarify, a Friday and Saturday stay means that you'll be there for dinner on Friday, spend the night at the inn both nights, and be there for breakfast and dinner on Saturday

3 and then breakfast on Sunday. A Thursday night stay will include dinner on Thursday and breakfast on Friday. We must be out by 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. If you do not want to stay overnight, the day charge is $75 a day and includes breakfast and dinner. There is no other option. The registration form is at the end of this newsletter. Charity Quilts Lynn and Becky are hoping you all can gather together for a Charity sew on Saturday, November 10th at Becky's Studio on the Hill, 1038 Washington St. in Holliston starting at 9:00 a.m. This year we are making quilts for Refugee Children. These are children who came to the U.S. without parents or were separated from their parents while fleeing violence, war or poverty. The overarching agency in Massachusetts is the Office of Refugees and Immigrants, and the program is the Unaccompanied Refugee Minors hosted by Ascentria Services (check out their website The program currently serves 148 children ages 3-22 in the Worcester area. They come from 23 different countries ranging from Central America to the Middle East. Two of the children were recently separated from their parents at the Mexican border and are both 13 years old. We have offered to make 20 quilts, hopefully before Christmas (no pressure!!). We can decide the age group we want to target, but we were thinking 10 for children under six and 10 for young adults who are preparing to move into independent living situations. Lynn and Becky are preparing quilt kits for that day, so just bring your sewing machines and thread. If you have fabric in your stash (looking for 1.5 yard pieces), please let us know. If you are unable to sew but have quilts you would like to donate to the project, please contact us. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, November 10 th! Shows and Announcements An invitation from Melissa Fernau, 395 Chestnut St., Clinton, MA Greetings Quilters! I've come into possession of my Mom's fabric hoard - a lifetime of sewing and quilting. I cannot even begin to use it all, so I am holding a Fabric Sale: I have all sorts of fabrics (at "fill a bag" pricing) and hundreds of Keepsake Quilting Medley of the Month and Christmas Medley packages that she subscribed to! Also for sale are patterns (new & used) and some other craft supplies. The sale is November 10th from 9 AM to 3 PM at 395 Chestnut St in Clinton MA.
