1 Quilters Crossing Business Meeting Minutes July 11, 2018 Call to order: By Mary Smith at 9:35 AM. Mary opened the meeting by reviewing the past months activities and thanking Carlajean for teaching the workshop and Mellissa for providing Education. Today and in the future we will be sitting on the west side of the room to avoid the sun shining in from the windows. Yeah! The guild was contacted by Doug and Lynn whose mother passed away recently. Their mother was a quilter and they wanted to donate her fabric and quilting / craft supplies someplace they would be appreciated. Part of the donation went to Philanthropic, some to Baskets and some is on the free table. Reminder - Items left on the free table at the end of the meeting are thrown away. Gail Crotty is collecting Friendship Square blocks for Ann Blazer and is taking photos of members with their blocks. Ann is back in the hospital but hopes to be discharged later today. Let s shower Ann with cards for her birthday July 14 th. Mary and Annette Dulaney are collecting Friendship Star blocks for Sharon Von Broembson today thru the October business meeting. Sharon has moved to Colorado because she is losing her sight. Her colors are teal, lime green and blue with white on white background. Remember to sign your block with a permanent marking pen. Directions for making Friendship Star blocks are on the member s only web page. Please wear your nametags to all guild events. This helps new members and not so new members to learn each other s names. Mary asked members to check their collection of fabric and quilting supplies to see if they have items they would like to donate to the Raffle Baskets. A couple of baskets were brought in. If any of the coordinators would like them please take them after the meeting. A bin is available on the Quilt Show table at each business meeting to place donations in. We will see they get to the appropriate coordinator. There was a request for a list of all baskets and coordinators to be posted on the Members Only web page. Linda DeMola will send the information to Clair Clinton to post. August 4 th Country Quilts and Bears are having a Scissor Sharpening event. Carrie Shelby will post information in Quilt Bits and check to see if it is possible to have them come to one of our meetings to sharpen scissors. Secretary s report Linda DeMola asked if there were any corrections or additions to the April minutes. Barbara Kellard sent her some spelling errors. No

2 other corrections were requested. The minutes will be reposted with spelling corrections made. On the communication board are coupons from JoAnn s and Office Depot. There is also information from Display Solutions and a notice about the Jacksonville Quilt Fest. Linda read a note from Irene Pappas thanking members who sent cards and called during her recent illness. Treasurer s Report Judy Haller (see attached MoneyMinder reports) Checking Account $ 4, Quilt Show Account $ 7, Savings Account $ Total $ 30, Education - Annette Horner thanked members who sent cards. On August 15 th four members will be presenting different techniques. Come see what it s all about! Workshops - Katy Gerritt & Jacki Hercules - On July 18 th Jo Groves is teaching the technique of Thread Painting. There are still a few openings. See Katy if interested in attending. August 8 th look for Holiday Gifts and Decorations. The workshop will be a combination of demo and hands on sewing and crafting holiday ornaments and decorations. Hospitality - Chris Peckham asked committee members to pass out secret pal gifts. Lee Franklin won the door prize. July birthdays were celebrated. Before the meeting Chris passed out questioners relating to guild hospitality events. Return completed forms to her after the meeting or place on the Hospitality table. She is asking for volunteers to help with one or more of the following events - Fall Picnic, Holiday Party and the Spring Luncheon. Lunch Today we are going to Al Fresco on Main Street in Dunedin. Membership - Carrie Shelby & Sharon Sullivan. Today there are 64 members in attendance and 1 visitor, Teri Profeta a neighbor of Annette Dulaney. We welcomed 3 new members along with their Big Sisters, Lois Bradshaw with big sister Gail Crotty, Mary DeGon and big sister Dolly Talmadge and Susan Montross and big sister Linda DeMola. Membership total is now at 89 and 3 lifetime members. Philanthropic - Diana Bendert and Chris Nelson. $55 was raised in today s 50/50 drawing. Cathy Johnson won $27.50 and $27.50 will be sent to FEAST. Seventytwo non-perishable items were also donated. Kits are available at the Philanthropic table to make tops for the Sheriff s Youth Ranch and for Sheriff s Advocacy. Volunteers are also needed to quilt the quilts. Backing and batting will be provided. Ginger is receiving blocks for QOV. Carol Scott is heading up the

3 Clothes to Kids drive and has passed out flyers with items and sizes requested. Bring in your donations anytime before or at the Fall Picnic. Quilt Show - Cathy Johnson and Tammy Peters. Stitcher s Paradise. Thank you, ladies and Happy Apple. For those scheduled to work the event find Ellen Ault from Happy Apple to get wristbands to get into the Marketplace. She will be either at the front desk or front Marketplace area. Remember Marketplace admission is included with the Workshop registration. Lois Bradshaw, a new member, (asked to stand) is staying at the Hilton and has offered to house the Opportunity Quilt overnight since it will be in an unsecure area. Lois, Betsy, Chris Peckham, Carol Scott and Barbara Lueth please gather at the Quilt Show table after the meeting. There are still 2 shifts open, Saturday 9:30-12:00 Opportunity Quilt with Chris Peckham, and Saturday 2:30 5, Admission Assistant. If no one can help on Sat. 2:30-5 our Opportunity Quilt volunteers will work as Admission Assistant instead of selling tickets. Josie McFarlane volunteered to work with Chris on Saturday morning and Barbara Kellard volunteered to take the open Admission Assistant shift. Thank you. This summer is going so very fast that October 3 will be here before we know it. Why does that matter? October 3 rd is when all the forms and pictures for the show are due. We will continue to put reminders in quilt bits. Tammy passed out Opportunity Quilt tickets to members. At the Sister Sit N Sew in August and September, Creative Corner will focus on making No Touchie s. Tammy and Cathy would like to see Bonnie, Gail, and Debbie and anyone else who wants to go to the storage unit so they can coordinate a time. New Business Mellissa is having another Block Party paint party this Friday and has a few openings. See her if you want to attend. There is a one-time fee of $10 to cover cost of supplies. The business portion of the meeting concluded at 10:20 am. Show and Tell began with items from Carlajean s Attic Window workshop.
