I really look forward to January each year when we take the time to recognize them and have a cup of tea! What a wonderful program, Margaret, and a special thank you to the Board for all the goodies! Our meeting this month will highlight the Black Canyon Quilt Show. You will want to be in attendance as we will have the opportunity to find out all of the ins and outs of this year s show! I would imagine that we will get a good understanding of the rules and what we need to know about getting our entries ready for the show. Just a reminder...please bring your membership form and fees as they are due by the end of February! FUN FOOD FOR THOUGHT: My mother just celebrated her 90th birthday! My sisters and I arrived to take her to lunch and Mother was putting on her makeup. She looked especially beautiful that day and I told her how pretty she was. 2 Friendship Quilters of Western Colorado Guild Meeting Victory Baptist Church January 26, 2017 The meeting was called to order at 9:30am. 44 members and 1 guest were present. This included three new members: Laura McCurdy, Bonnie Nolan and Janice Williams. The minutes of the December meeting were approved as printed in the newsletter. President Robbie Turgeon reminded everyone to wear your name tag or there is a $1 fine for not wearing it. Treasurers report: Marilyn Mudge reported our beginning balance was $7,237.78, deposits in the amount of $5.30 and checks written in the amount of $268.86, leaving a balance of $6, Members who have paid dues were thanked and those who haven t reminded to do so. Announcements: Robbie read a thank you note from Pam Johnson, a Cancer Center recipient of a Caring Quilt. Kathy McNeil is coming to the Four Corners Quilt Gathering April in Durango for 3 workshops. Rita Hutchens will be in Grand Junction on February 8 for a lecture and trunk show. Nancy Phillips was recognized for the work she does in making and donating bags to Hill Top House- a great example of what can be done with fabric from the free table. The Victory Baptist Church has approved another year of use by Friendship Quilters. A reminder that the meeting in June will be the 3rd Thursday due to Vacation Bible School. New Business: Bylaws changes as presented last month were read and voted on. The measure passed. Margaret Noah was then installed as Programs Vice President by Millie Buss. Committee/Community Reports: Caring Quilts: None given and quilts are needed. Library: No report. Sunshine: No report. Quilts of Valor: Continues to meet the 1st Monday of the month. Call Sue Palmer for information. Newsletter: Deadline for the next issue is February 8th. Sharing Ministries: A huge thank you for $ in checks and cash and 98 pounds of food that were donated last month. The next regular collection will be in March, but items can be donated at any meeting. Black Canyon Quilt Show: QuickBooks and the new computer are up and running. New drapes for the show have been ordered. The Centennial Room is reserved this Saturday after the meeting, the 28th, to make boutique items. Anyone who can is urged to stay. Raffle quilt license has been approved and tickets are for sale. Vendor booth space is full. Workshop and lecture with Gail Garber tickets are available. More information is available at Library quilt and Hope West quilts for next month are by Judy Clay. Raffle Quilt: Volunteers are needed to sell tickets at the Home and Garden Show. If anyone knows of other venues where the quilt can be shown and tickets sold please let the Black Canyon board know. Mystery Quilt: Cindy Snook will be doing the mystery quilt this year. Sign-up sheet and materials list are available. Ginny Frame asked members to sign up for hospitality duties for this year. February 2nd board meeting will be held at the home of Marilyn Mudge at 10:00 am. Again, a wonderful show and tell! The program was a new members tea with refreshments provided by the board. New members were asked to talk about their quilting/sewing journey. Board members then shared their journey as well. A fun meeting! Respectfully submitted, Verna Mullet

3 Hilltop Youth Services has asked for pillowcases and 6½X8½ drawstring bags to give to children who have been removed from their homes Quilts of Valor Meetings are the first Monday of every month from 9:00 to 3:00 at the Cimarron Creek Community Center. Library Quilts: This month s library quilt was pieced and quilted by Judy Clay and is entitled Hearts a Flutter. February - Mary Ross, president of the Black Canyon Quilt Show, will be the featured speaker in February. Mary will be reviewing the rules for the show this year and the entry forms. She will have two previous Best of Show quilts for the guild to see. She will talk about the qualities a quilt judge looks for in their selection of the Best of Show quilt. Black Canyon Quilt Show News The BC Board met Jan. 28, Following the meeting the members remained for a sew-in to make items for the Quilt Show Boutique. Book markers for Gail Barber s April lecture and workshop are now available for all who want them. Sew-in dates for the 2018 Raffle Quilt have been set for Jan. 31, and Feb. 7 and 14 at Cimarron Creek from 9:00 to 3:00 each day. Raffle tickets are available. Members are asked to contact Shana Jensen at to sign up to sell tickets at the Home and Garden Show Feb. 24 and 25. All quilters are encouraged to check the Black Canyon web site which has been updated.
