First, a big thank-you to Sharon and Sue Ellen for carrying on the meeting for us. I appreciate you so much! Congratulations to the winners as announced on the Website. Please, everyone, bring your projects to the September meeting! So, the Delta County Fair is just around the corner. Are you all ready with needlework, canned and baked goods, garden treasures, flowers, art projects and of course that fabulous quilt?! Our guild provides many items for competition and judging, but do you realize how many of our members are also involved in registration, assisting the various Superintendents and performing as Superintendents? Our needlework Superintendents, Margie Hollembeak and Marilyn Blanford, are in their last year as Superintendents and they will be training their replacement this year. As you know, Sandy Leuth will be judging the quilt section this year, August 9, and will then teach the Wedding Star Table Topper August 10 and 11. I am so looking forward to that! I wonder how many of us remember back when the County Fair was a huge event. Our communities prepared booths with their very best products: home canned, hand sewn, grown and groomed vegetables, grains, alfalfa, flowers, knitted and crocheted items, garments, quilts, on and on..i remember our dad keeping a careful eye on a stand of Timothy Grass, cutting it at 9:00 pm and then carefully building a sheaf by attaching it to a special board. I remember Mom, too, would set aside quarts of canned produce that had the peaches placed just so, the green beans snapped to a specific length, and pickled beets where the beets were identical in size. The booths themselves were decorated with shelves covered with freezer paper and crepe paper ribbons, tissue-stuffed rabbit wire along the edges and such careful placement of items for judging. Communities vied for top honors for the most blue ribbons as well as the presentation of the entire booth. Those are good memories! Sunshine Lady: Kathy Carlson reported for Anita that 3 cards were sent in June. Please also when you leave a message; give the reason for the request, who it is for, and mailing address. Members who have passed away Verna Stranger and Betty Costa. July Meeting Minutes The July 8th, 2017 meeting of S & B Quilters Guild was called to order by Vice President Sharon Schmidt. Two officers in attendance were Sharon Schmidt and Sue Ellen Gary. Guests Anita Evans and Richard Hypio from Nature Connection Welcomed a new member, Michelle Meyers of Hotchkiss. The minutes of the June meeting were approved with the correction from Sue Ellen for an $80 deposit for raffle ticket sales that was not included. Motion was presented and approved to accept. The Guild presented Anita Evans and Richard Hypio with the GOCO quilt that was made. They will share this when they present their grant request at GOCO. Thank You to these members for making this quilt Lida Letey, Ann Perry, Pattie Timmerwilke, Robyn Rienhard, Connie Barry, and Lynea Schultz- Ela. The quilt will also hang at the Nature Connection in Hotchkiss. CQC Quilt A Fair on September 22 nd and 23 rd in Longmont at the Boulder County Fairgrounds. We will have our raffle quilt there to sell tickets. Dianna Ballinger was asking for volunteers to help on that Friday and Saturday Raffle Quilt, please contact Robyn if you can help with finishing the blocks. They need to be completed ASAP so Lida can do the border. Programs Laura September 8 th Kansas Troubles class has 2 to 3 openings. She will contact those who are in

4 the class for which border color they would like for their kit. The drop dead date to confirm with her if you are taking or not taking class is July 15 th. This project is a wall hanging. Next year for May she has Jill McCloy as a possible class and trunk show. This will be a miniature design. A show of hands was good and Laura will continue with this possibility. Next fall she is looking at the possibility to have Patrick Lose. Education Lida and Barb Next one will be Friday, October 6 th. They asked for suggestions for them to teach from everyone. Rita shared that the Sandy Leuth class is full and all is finalized for August 10 th and 11 th. Block of the Month Dianna drew for the prize. This was won by Ann Perry. Sunday Woolies - Dianna has them scheduled for July 9 th and August 20 th. These ladies are hosting retreat at the High Park Lodge on Grand Mesa. This is July 30 th through August 1 st. The cost is $175. Contact Dianna for more information. are on the Guild website. The fair books are out at the businesses for you to pick one up. Sharon encouraged all to enter their items in the fair. Sharon announced that we need a volunteer to chair the 2018 February Frolic. Please let Tammy know. Meeting adjourned at 10:10am All enjoyed the delicious spread of goodies for our annual potluck picnic. Thank You!!! Respectfully submitted, Rita Sussman, Recording Secretary Pro Tem Program: Sue Sidebottom presented the Guild Challenge entries. The challenge rules were to make any item you desire using 5 inch squares but they must be used in the construction and visible on the front of the item. There were 11 entries with 9 completed. 1 st Barb Rodgers 2 nd - Connie Hodges 3 rd Bev Shiflet Caring/Vet quilts Connie shared that they have 20 Vet quilts for November. They have 15 Caring quilts. She encouraged everyone to be making Vet quilts for November. We received a very nice donation from the Delta Elks Lodge #1235 of $400 for the Veterans sub account per Sue Sidebottom. - Old Business: Raffle Quilt ticket sales for Cherry Days was $254. -New Business: Sharon asked for volunteers for the Nominating Committee. All officers are terming except Margie. Marilyn passed around signup sheets for the fair on Tuesday, August 8 th and Wednesday, August 9 th. The fair entry rules for our division
