I think we are in for some real beauty this year as we have had a lot of moisture over the summer! The allergies have been very bad this summer and fall; the pollen is high and we sure have had a lot of smoke! Our September meeting will be a fun one as we are hosting Carolyn Beam. We have changed the location for her class on Friday, September 29 beginning at 9am and ending around 4pm, so be prepared to meet at the Montrose Recreation District s Field House, located at 25 Colorado Avenue (the old swimming pool) for the class. We are in need of someone to step up to the plate to take over programs for We have a lot of ideas for programs, but are in need of a VP to oversee and take charge. Please contact Margaret Noah if you are interested in reviewing the program ideas and taking this leadership position. FUN FOOD FOR THOUGHT: From the time an infant tries to get his toes in his mouth, life is a continual struggle to make both ends meet! 2 Friendship Quilters of Western Colorado Guild Meeting Victory Baptist Church August 24,2017 The Friendship Quilters Guild meeting was called to order by President Robbie Turgeon at 9:30 am. 41 members and three guests were present. July meeting minutes were approved as printed in the newsletter. Treasurers report was given: The prior balance was $9, with an income of $18.00 and expenses of $133.95, including office and hospitality expenses and newsletter mailings, leaving a balance of $9, Announcements: Carolyn Casedy reported that Bobbie Aug, who did the BCQS appraisals, has her broken computer up and running and is mailing appraisals out. Carolyn is also having a large yard sale September 28-30th and passed out flyers. Myrtle Hogue told about a new phone scam to be aware of. Robbie read a heartfelt thank you note from Region 10 for the BCQS boutique donation of nearly $5, Mary Ross has a curling iron that was left at the BCQS. Hope West: The quilt for September is from Cindy Snook. Small Groups: Next meeting will be August 29th at Starbucks at 9:30. They will try to help direct members to individual small groups that meet their needs. Nominating Committee: Millie Buss will be the chairperson. Caring Quilts: Shana Jensen reported for July, 5 quilts were given to the Kansas fire victims (3 from the Strippers small group) and 1 to Hope West. Library: No report. Sunshine: One card to Margaret Noah. Newsletter: Have items in by the 10th for the September issue. Melody Pozerl, who will be taking on the newsletter duties next year, will need a volunteer to send the snail mail (about 5-6). Quilts of Valor: Sue Palmer reported a change of sewing days. Mondays were no longer convenient so they were changed to the 2nd Tuesday of the month starting September 12th. Call Sue for more information. Black Canyon Quilt Show: Next meeting will be Saturday, September 16th at 9:00 am at Centennial Hall. Need a quorum to adopt some new changes so please come to vote. There will be door prizes! Library Quilt: A quilt by Abigail Renfrow is up now, the next one is by Mary Ross. Sharing Ministries: The next meeting (September) will be a collection month. Chinle: Sue Sharman will be going back the end of September to do shrugs. She thanked everyone for all the donations. Mystery Quilt: To be shown completely finished at the October meeting. $5.00 if not finished. Programs: Today is demonstration tables: Elizabeth Binder- Delectable Mountains quilt block variations, Debbie Watkinsconfetti trees, Margi Young-Sulky Solvy techniques, Ginny Frame-rusting fabric and Margaret Noah-Sharon Schaumbers binding technique. September will be Carolyn Beam doing a lecture at the Thursday meeting then an all-day class on Friday the 29th. October will be Rhonda Denny doing an afternoon class on using paints and other medium on fabric. Challenge Quilt: Titled Embrace the Gray. A wall quilt beginning with gray as an integral part of the design. Add as much color as you want. Will be due at the November regular meeting. Fund Raiser: Melody Maskus will have a table at the Montrose Women s Club Craft Show in November to sell items donated by the guild. She would like to have all donations in by the October meeting. Hospitality: Need a few more spaces filled in for set up, snacks and clean up. Next board meeting will be September 7th at Verna Mullets home. Show and tell was next followed by a break. Then the demonstration tables-all very informative. Makes us want to try all the techniques. Submitted by Verna Mullet

3 Hilltop Youth Services has asked for pillowcases and 6½X8½ drawstring bags to give to children who have been removed from their homes Quilts of Valor Meetings are the first Monday of every month from 9:00 to 3:00 at the Cimarron Creek Community Center. Library Quilts: The quilt at the library was designed by Barb Schue and Mary Ross. The title is Grandma moved to town (and took her flowers) and was appliquéd and pieced by Mary. Melody Maskus will have a table at the Montrose Women s Club Craft show in November to sell items donated by the guild. Please have these turned in to her by the October meeting. They don t have to be handmade, but should be new. Black Canyon Quilt Show News Black Canyon Quilt Show Annual Meeting Saturday, September 16, 2017 Centennial Room (next to City Hall, off of Centennial Plaza) 9:00 a.m. Come meet Committee Chair Volunteers and help elect them to the 2018 Board. Several By-law changes will also be voted on. Your presence is needed to make a quorum so the Board can start to work on the 2018 quilt show immediately. Door prizes will be given!!

What a great group of talented quilters!! Is anyone interested in making a quilt out of tee -shirts? I have a friend in Ouray Co. who would like someone to do this for her (for pay, of course). OR does anyone have a suggestion of a company that does a good job of this? I have seen some ads, but would like to forward a recommendation. Thanks, all. Sue Hillhouse September Carolyn Beam will be doing a lecture and trunk show, followed on Friday by a class entitled Charmed I m Sure. There are five spots open for the class. Please Margaret at mgtnoah@yahoo.com to reserve your space in this fun class. The class will be at the meeting room adjacent to the Montrose Field House, 25 Colorado Ave. from 9-4. Check-in begins at 8:30. If you have a sewing table you can bring please do so, also extension cords, iron, etc. Flyer attached. October October Rhonda Denney will give a lecture/trunk show on Coloring on Fabric followed by a 4 hour afternoon class. This class has one spot open. Please Margaret if you would like to take this great class. Flyers are attached. The September quilt was provided by Cindy Snook. November November Embrace the Gray challenge. Begin with the neutral color gray. Create a design or pattern of your choice Add as much color as you want with gray as an integral part of your design. 2-Cubes Quilting
