Box 3371 Montrose, Hello Friends, PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Our October meeting was a good and informative one. We covered a lot of information and had a presentation by Mr. Bill Martindale representing the Sleep in Heavenly Peace organization in which volunteers, build twin beds and bunk beds for children who have never had a bed of their own. Currently these children sleep on sofa s or cold, hard floors. Bill has asked us as quilters to make twin size quilts for these new beds and before he left, he was given two quilts from two of our members. If you wish to donate lap size quilts, these will be given to the smaller children who generally sleep with siblings. All of our efforts in helping with this endeavor will stay in Montrose. These are local children! We can also donate new twin size bedding, sheets, pillow cases, and/or mattress pads. Quilts may be dropped off at Lady Bugz or I will be happy to collect them plus bedding donations brought to guild meetings. A very worthy cause. November brings us the excitement of The Challenge in this case The PURPLE Challenge. I am still working on mine in hopes that I can get it entered. There will be prizes! As I said at October s Guild meeting, we will vote by official ballot this month for your Guild Officers for Please fill yours out and the current board will gather them and do the count during the meeting. The Caring Quilts sew-in that was held after the Oct. meeting was SUPER! I believe I counted twenty quilters who were working away. Bring those in for Show and Tell Ladies. Fantastic job! 2 Friendship Quilters of Western Colorado Guild Meeting Friendship Hall-Pioneer Room October 25, 2018 The meeting was called to order at 9:30 by Ginny Frame. 48 members and 4 visitors were present. Bill Martindale of Sleep in Heavenly Peace gave a presentation. He started a chapter in Montrose to build and give beds to children who have no bed to sleep in. It is a volunteer driven organization with 100% of donations going toward building children s beds. His presentation was well received and will be added to our list of organizations to donate caring quilts to. They would like to have twin size quilts. Sue Lorimer of Lady Bugz offered her shop to be a drop off place for the quilts. Announcements: Laura McCurdy has the Hotchkiss quilt guild raffle quilt displayed for ticket sales. Montrose Center for the Arts is leasing a building at 10 S. Park Avenue with an open house from 4-7 October 26 th. Nominating committee has the following list to be voted on in November: President-Ginny Frame, VP of Publicity-Karla Gilbert, VP of Programs-Suzanne Hebert, VP of Hospitality-Brenda Burke, Secretary-Jane Nannestad, Treasurer-Melody Pozerl. September meeting minutes were accepted as printed in the newsletter. Treasurer report was given: The prior balance was $10, with no income, expenses were $ leaving a balance of $10, Laura McCurdy, Cyndi Holman and Jan Williams volunteered to be on the budget committee for 2019 and will meet next month. Newsletter: Have items in by November 5 th for the November newsletter. Marilyn Mudge volunteered to be the contact for s if a notice needs to be sent to the membership between newsletters. Caring Quilts: In September, 12 quilts and 6 pillowcases were donated: 7 to the Cancer Center, 5 to Dolphin House and the pillowcases to Haven House. Library: No report. Publicity: The Montrose Press is doing better at getting meeting information printed. Sunshine: No report. Quilts of Valor: November 13 th will be the next sew day. For information, contact Sue Palmer. Black Canyon Quilt Show: Jean Hatfield will be the Vendor chairperson. Education has obtained Michelle Watts as the main instructor for Storage will be at a new site due to security. The theme for 2019 will be Liberty, Front Porches and Lemonade. Hope West: the November quilt will be by Marilyn Mudge. Library Quilt: November will be by Sue Lorimer. Sharing Ministries: This month is a collection month, January will be the next collection month. Chinle: Sue Sharman went this month with Sandy Longmore and made stuffed animals. Everyone had a good time. She may possibly return in February. Programs: This afternoon is scheduled to be a sew in for caring quilts. Kits have been made up and batting is available. November will be the annual quilt challenge reveal. December is the potluck. The Mystery Quilts for 2018 will be shown before the potluck. We will also have a gift exchange with the gifts being between $ No name on the wrapped gifts. We will also have a new sock drive for children 2 months to 16 years to be donated to Haven House. Two quilts are displayed as block of the month quilts for One is Bitty Blocks with Cyndi Holman and the other is an Edyta Sitar blue and white quilt with Suzanne Hebert. Sheets are available for signing up at each quilt. Show and Tell was after the break then members stayed for the Caring Quilts sew in. The next Friendship Guild board meeting will be November 1 st, 9:00 am at Karla Gilberts home. Submitted by Verna Mullet

3 Black Canyon Quilt Show News July 10: Judging Day (Dr. Pamala Walsh and Barb Broshus are expected back, and hopefully will do some kind of lecture or trunk show for us! July 11: Set Up Day July 12, 13 and 14: Quilt Show Are you thinking about your Challenge Quilt entry? The Challenge theme, open to your interpretation, is Liberty, Front Porches and Lemonade. Quilts for this category must have a perimeter of no more than 120 and must be totally made by the entrant. Have you seen photos of the 2018 show prize winners on the Black Canyon website? 5 PROGRAMS/EDUCATION NOVEMBER 15 GUILD MEETING PURPLE QUILT CHALLENGE REVEAL & QUILT SHOW! Please drop off your quilts at the sign-in table so that they can be given a number and then hung for everyone to admire! *************************************** SIT & SEW Please plan to stay after our Guild meeting for a little sit & sew. You can work on UFO s, Caring Quilts, anything you d like! Bring your machine or hand stitching or just sit and visit. It s all about getting to know one another and sharing our common love fabric and sewing!! A perfect time to talk about the 2019 BOM quilts and ask questions. We will have the BOM quilts displayed along with sign-up sheets! It s going to be FUN! WARM TOES sock drive going to children at Haven House who are in need. Children socks sizes from 2 months to 16 years. We will be collecting socks at the November & December meetings and then delivering them in time for Christmas! Drop-off box located at the sign-in desk! Thanks for sharing your warmth!! ********************************************* DECEMBER 20 - GUILD MEETING: LOTS OF FOOD, FUN & GIFTS!!! PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND OUR ANNUAL CHRISTMAS GET TOGETHER As I mentioned at our October meeting, we re going to shake things up a bit with our Christmas Gift Exchange. Please bring a Christmas wrapped present, but don t put your name on the package. It s suggested that your present be quilting/sewing related (since that s what we do) and be valued between $10-15.
