I hope all of you enjoyed the Christmas Season, and are ready to get started on our new year. I am certainly glad to be back from California! We came back with bad colds and spent the next five days recovering. I told my daughter that they will have to come to Grammy s house from now on in the winter. We are too old to keep getting sick! We have a new programs director: Margaret Noah and are planning our New Members Tea for January. Don t forget to bring your favorite tea cup and plan to enjoy the goodies and getting to hear all about our new members. We are also going to vote on a few minor changes to our by-laws. Nothing major, just some wording and installing our program director to the board. I must thank all of you for the very generous gift you gave to me for Christmas. It has been so much fun to be your president for the past year, and I am looking forward to an incredible year again this year. I absolutely love the sewing machine clock! It has a special place in my sewing room and makes me think of all of you each time I m in there! Thank you so very much! FUN FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Success covers a multitude of blunders. 2 Friendship Quilters of Western Colorado Guild Meeting Victory Baptist Church December 15,2016 The meeting began at 9:30 a.m. 39 members and 2 guests were present. The minutes of the November meeting were approved as printed in the newsletter. President Robbie Turgeon thanked everyone for wearing name tags and bringing their personal coffee cups. Millie Buss installed the officers for Robbie Turgeon remains as President; Jan Edwards, V.P. Publicity/Communications; Ginny Frame, V.P. Hospitality; Margaret Noah, V.P. Education/Programs; Verna Mullet, Secretary; Marilyn Mudge, Treasurer replacing Mary Huff. Treasurer s Report: Marilyn Mudge reported our beginning balance was $6,510.28, deposits in the amount of $ and checks were written in the amount of $82.00, leaving the current balance of $7, The 2017 budget was presented by Delphine Love with an explanation of the reserve. A motion was made and seconded to accept the budget. There was no discussion, it was voted on and accepted. Committee/Community Reports: Quilts Of Valor: Sue Palmer reported they will meet at the same place at Cimarron Creek in the Community Room on the first Monday of the month with the exception of January, which will be the second Monday of the month, January 9. Sue also thanked everyone who has sewn for Quilts Of Valor over the past months. Newsletter: Jan Daoust has requested all information by January 8th for the January Newsletter. Sharing Ministries: Sue Grattis thanked everyone for this month s donations. Stated donations will be collected every three months. Caring Quilts: Sue Peters reported one quilt was given last month. Sunshine: Sandy Michaud sent cards to Ginny Frame, Jan Daoust, Jane Savaria and Sue Roushar. Hope West: Myrtle Hogue reported the December quilt is by Lori Perpar, the January quilt is by Peggy Maynes. Library Quilt: Gail Fox reported the January quilt is a quilt by Jan Daoust and quilted by Judy Clay. Program: This month s program is entertainment by The Stonehouse Quartet, a men s choir and a Bell Choir from the Presbyterian Church. Next month will be a Tea. Ginny Frame would like two volunteers for cleanup. Signup sheets are available at the check in desk for 2017-Please Sign Up. Black Canyon Quilt Board: Pat Huff reported the proposed budget was presented. She has copies of the proposed budget and treasurer s report if anyone would like to see them. A total of $4500 from admission fees is needed from the quilt show, that is 1175 paying attendees. Karla Gilbert has an application for a grant in the amount of $250 from the city. New signs and drapes are needed. Shana Jensen has her license and raffle tickets will be available in January. Sew ins for future months will be January, table runner; February, door prizes; March, prize ribbons. A guild member requested minutes of the BCQS board meetings be sent to all three guilds to be printed in the newsletters. As the board meetings are open to any guild member, it was decided this would not be done. Show and tell was very inspiring as usual! The potluck was great with a great variety of delicious entrees, sides and deserts. The entertainment was wonderful. The men s choir sang great Christmas music and the bell choir did a very good variety of songs, very impressive. 3 Hilltop Youth Services has asked for pillowcases and 6½X8½ drawstring bags to give to children who have been removed from their homes. Quilts of Valor Meetings are the first Monday of every Black Canyon Quilt Show News The BCQS Board met for a short meeting Dec 17. A reminder to Guild members that the Challenge Quilt theme is Stars Among Us. Quilt Show entry forms are available, with instructions, at the Black Canyon web site. Early entry forms are encouraged! Mark your calendars for April 7! Gail Garber will present a lecture "Quilt Makers and their Influence" and an all day class on April 8 "Little Goose Fly Away Home". Both will be held at the Pioneer Room. Check the web site for more information. month from 9:00 to 3:00 at the Cimarron Creek Community Center. Library Quilts: Snow Ladies made by Jan Daoust, quilted by Judy Clay. This was my first project on my first embroidery machine. The snow-ladies are all quilters check them out. January Our annual New Member Tea will be our program for January. New members who joined during 2016 will be recognized and will have an opportunity to share with us a little more about their quilting journey and inspirations. It s a lovely way to welcome our newest guild sisters and help everyone to get to know them better. Bring a tea cup and saucer and enjoy tea and goodies.
