The gorgeous quilts at Show N Tell was a highlight and pictures are scattered throughout the newsletter. Thanks to Jean Pederson for the pics!! Desert Winds Quilt Guild s General Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at the Percy Bakker Community Center located at 9333 E. Avenue in Hesperia. Doors open at 9:00 am and the meeting starts at 9:30 am. Our next General Meeting and Annual Christmas Party will be held on Tuesday, December 4 th, Mark your calendars for these upcoming events! The purpose of our organization is: To contribute to the knowledge and appreciation of fine quilts. To sponsor and support quilting activities. To encourage quilt making and collecting. To contribute to the knowledge of quilting techniques, textiles, patterns, and history through educational meetings, workshops, travel, and friendship. To pursue charitable works within the community. I want to thank all of you for a great year. You ladies have worked hard to keep us on track and keep us moving ahead. Our last meeting went long but it always does when we get talkative.

The Raffle Table; You will need to wrap the NEW items you bring for the Raffle table. Brown bag or fancy gift bag or wrapped in gift paper. We do not want you ladies to see what s in them.

Makes it easier to remember. The second item I want to remind you of is our dues will now be $30.00 a year. January is renewal time.as for myself. I m still here. I will be renewing my membership.

I pray that I have not let to much go unattended. This is such a wonderful guild and you are all so special to me. It s been a joy and I wouldn t have changed a thing. Love to you all.

It s hard to believe that another year has gone by. I want to thank all of you for a great year. You ladies have worked hard to keep us on track and keep us moving ahead. Our last meeting went long but it always does when we get talkative. Enjoyed Quilto, even though I didn t win. It s just fun being with all of you. The board has asked for a few changes for this next year and here is one of them. The Raffle Table; You will need to wrap the NEW items you bring for the Raffle table. Brown bag or fancy gift bag or wrapped in gift paper. We do not want you ladies to see what s in them. Each one will be a surprise. Please, no used items and no old magazines. Try to pick 2 months in the year to donate to the Raffle table. I like to bring things on my Birthday month and one other. Makes it easier to remember. You have done a great job of meeting the challenge in learning to study a block and notice all the subblocks that go into the nine patch blocks. It s all in the Math as they say you can achieve just about any size block you want by following the chart given below. (You may want to copy this for future reference.) Cutting your squares 1 1/2 inches (1 7/8 for triangles) will give you a finished block of 3 inches. Cutting your squares 2 inches (2 3/8 for triangles) will give you a finished block of 4 1/2 inches. Cutting your squares 2 1/2 inches (2 7/8 for triangles) will give you a finished block of 6 inches. Cutting your squares 3 inches (3 3/8 for triangles) will give you a finished block of 7 1/2 inches. Cutting your squares 3 1/2 inches (3 7/8 for triangles) will give you a finished block of 9 inches. Cutting your squares 4 inches (4 3/8 for triangles) will give you a finished block of 10 1/2 inches. Cutting your squares 4 1/2 inches (4 7/8 for triangles) will give you a finished block of 12 inches. Cutting your squares 5 1/2 inches (5 7/8 for triangles) will give you a finished block of 15 inches. Cutting your squares 6 1/2 inches (6 7/8 for triangles) will give you a finished block of 18 inches. Finished means after the block is sewn into a quilt. Barbb Message from Let s Go! We are planning on another trip to Road to California in January and Remember - we will be going to see Eleanor Burns at Quilt in a Day in March so start saving your $$$. We realllllly want to get that BIG, comfy bus (with a bathroom) for that trip. Eleanor will make a presentation and provide lunch. The presentation will be $25/ea and transportation cost will depend on how many sign up. We will need about 45 sign ups to keep the transportation cost at $25/ea so invite your friends.

I talked to the lady there and asked about unwrapped toys for Christmas but she indicated that due to so many rules they have to go by (no partiality for one) they prefer we not go out and purchase a toy. However, she said the Christmas stockings with the goodies to fill them was a great idea. If we do donate toys, since we are a guild and not individual, they will accept them. So, I ll leave that up to you. They are especially grateful for all the quilts we make, especially this time of year as it is getting colder. Barbb Desert Winds Quilt Guild Annual Christmas Party December 4, :00AM Your Christmas Committee is already hard at work planning a fabulous party for you. In order to make it a great success, we need just a little help from all of you: 1. A Homemade Christmas Placemat 2. Three Fat Quarters (Christmas Themed) 3. A Potluck Dish Then sit back and enjoy. You can leave the rest to us! Pre-sale raffle tickets go on sale at the October meeting! We will be raffling off gift baskets and other items. The Holiday Party Committee will accept NEW gift item donations to add to the baskets. You may also donate a quilt you have made, 100% cotton fabric from your stash, a gift card, etc. However, donations do not have to be quilting related. Tickets for the Holiday Party raffle will go on sale at the October meeting (Oct.2nd) and again at our November meeting (Nov.6th). For those who bring donations you will receive extra tickets for the raffle, as determined by the committee. Ticket purchase prices are as follows: 1 ticket = $ tickets = $ tickets = $ tickets = $ tickets = $20.00 Look for the Holiday Party table at our next meeting for donations and ticket purchase.
