1 Eastern Polk Quilters Guild April 2018 Issue 208 Web Site: The next guild meeting is on April 16, 2018 Speaker: Cathy Geier Landscape Quilting: Alaska to Wisconsin President s Note The president s challenge is stash busting. Use up those pieces of fabric you don t know what to do with. Any pattern is fine, that is your choice. I would like them to be throw or twin size for donation. I know you all have stashes big enough to make a twin out there. You will get entered into a drawing for gift cards. Twin size gets you two entries. We would like all donation quilts to have a label stating "Donated by Eastern Polk Quilters Guild, Altoona, Ia, 2018". We will have some labels made up and available to pick up at the guild meetings to be added to your donation quilts. If you wish to make your own labels that would be fine also. For each twin quilt donated, your name will be entered twice into the year end drawing. Cindy Alcorn ccmtm@msn.com Board Meetings The EPQG Board Meetings are held on the 4th Monday, 6:00 pm, at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in classroom LC # 17. All members are welcome to attend EASTERN POLK QUILTERS GUILD BOARD President Vice-President Secretary Treasurer Member at Large (2nd term) Member at Large (1st term) Program Chair Program Chair Elect Newsletter Editor Cindy Alcorn Tamara Burkhalter Carolyn Larson Sue Grant Cheryl Blue Sheri Olson Pam Nelson Laura Anspach Janet Rice Page (563)
2 Donation Quilt Labels This is an example of the labels that Carolyn Larson has made to put on a donation quilt. They come in brown, blue, and black and are available for anyone. You re not required to use them you can design your own labels, if you like. The goal is for people to know where their quilt has come from. Please pick some up if you need them. Aspen and Maple Tree Trunks 3 Hour April Workshop with Cathy Geier Cathy Geier will be giving a workshop on her landscapes. The work shop will be held on Sunday April 15 at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona from 1-4 pm. Cost of the workshop is $25.00 due at the time you sign up. If your guild members want to have fun, this short sweet class is the ticket! I supply all the markers, pastels, paints, crayons, etc. In 3 hours students will construct one very simple landscape on a whole cloth background and learn to shade tree trunks and draw simple saplings. This is a very fun 'freeing' class and introduces an easy technique for students wishing to add something special to their landscape quilts. Kits are required. (Kits are $17) Page 2
3 Donation Quilts If you are wanting a donation quilt top kit, please contact Marsha Horner at She has new kits available. All of the fabric for the top is included in the kit, as well as a pattern. It s a great way to be able to contribute to donation quilts if you don t have a lot of fabric yourself or have a hard time choosing colors or patterns. Please take advantage of these kits in order to help our charities. Refreshment Volunteers April Shannon Mellroy Lori Kissel Angel Carter Rita Prock Luz Anderson May Amy Leonard Jean Redman Jean Beltzer Sherrie Davis Pat Meuler June (salad supper) Kathy Neuroth Glenda Loving Board members Monthly Refreshments Refreshments this month will be provided by the members listed. The member whose name is first in the list each month is the coordinator for the refreshments that month. The refreshments can be as simple or as complicated as the volunteers decide. Please remember the responsibilities of the refreshment committee each month: 1) Supply the goodies. 2) Supply the paper and plastic utensils. 3) Clean up after. 4) Take garbage out. Dumpster is right outside the back door. It is important that each us remains committed to these responsibilities. Thanks!! Page 3
