1 The Newsletter of Faithful Circle Quilters March 2017 FCQ Officers President Nancy Meier Treasurer eri Flester Assistant Treasurer Nancy Evans Thursday Vice President Kim Reading Secretary Janette Tarr Monday Vice President Terry Wilson Secretary Linda Kerrick com/albums/w517 /FCQuilters From Nancy Meier PRESIDENT S MESSAE I am looking out my window at my neighbor s cherry tree blooming. Other trees are budding and the bulbs are up. It s lovely, but weird. I won t even mention what has not occurred this winter. You know that one of my favorite topics is volunteering. I am so proud of how you all are jumping in to help. Sue Scott graciously volunteered to take over for Marianne Hendrickse as the Love Quilt Coordinator. We didn t even have to twist her arm! Thank you, Sue. And Maria has formed an education team to help with the classes. Others are taking home bags of fabric to cut into squares for love quilts. What a great group we are! Can you believe it, our quilt show is only fifteen months away? How many of you have sewn quilts for the show? If you haven t, it s time to get busy. And on that note I leave you with this SOS poem by Jacquie Scuitto: Where can I store more fabric? My sewing room shelves are crammed! There s no more space beneath my bed And the guest room closet is jammed. I have a friend with an attic Who would let me store some there, But such separation from my treasures Would be more than I could bear. Meanwhile there are three bags full From the big sale I went to today And I can't think where to put them -- Or what my dear husband will say! 1
2 By Maria O Haver LOVE QUILTS I need eight volunteers who would be willing to take home a shopping bag of fabric to be cut into 8 inch or 6 inch squares and then returned to me. There is no particular deadline, but if folks want a target, it would be nice to have them for the summer meetings when we make kits. I will have the bags at the meetings this week and would appreciate if I can hand them off to some volunteers! TAPS AND WOUNDED WARRIOR QUILTS By Stephanie Sanidas If you can donate a patriotic quilt for children attending TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) camp during Memorial Day weekend, quilts are needed by May 1, Adult Wounded Warrior quilts are always needed and appreciated at our local medical hospitals. If you only have time to make a quilt top, we can find a machine quilter to finish your project. Contact STEPHANIE SANIDAS for more information. QUICK AND CUTE TUFFETS CLASS By Maria O Haver Based on multiple requests from members, Erin Underwood will be here to teach her "Quick and Cute Tuffets" class on Saturday March 25 th. It will be an all-day class, held in the Fellowship Hall, and will cost $45. That cost includes the class fee, a pattern and button. Additional materials are required which may be purchased from Erin or obtained on your own. See MARIA O HAVER for additional details and to sign up now. The class is nearly full, so don't wait too long! Save the 2017 Dates: June 1 - Lecture Jane Sassaman June 2, 3 - Class with Jane Sassaman July 31 - Lecture Philippa Naylor Aug 1, 2 - Classes with Philippa Naylor Sept 29 - Oct 1 - Fall Retreat at Pecometh - no classes Oct 7, 8 - Classes with Karen Eckmeier Oct 9 - Lecture Karen Eckmeier 2
3 By Maria O Haver MAKE YOUR OWN CHATELAINE We've all admired the handy way Margaret Minton stores and keeps her various sewing implements close at hand, and now she has volunteered to teach us how to make our own Chatelaine. The class will be on Saturday April 8 from 9:30am - 12:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. The class fee is $5. Registration is open now and limited to 20 students. Contact MARIA O HAVER to sign up. By Maria O Haver FALL RETREAT AT PECOMETH Registration is open now for the Fall Retreat, Friday Sept.29 through Sunday Oct The retreat this year is a UFO retreat - everyone will be working on their own projects. The cost is $260 for a Double Room and includes 2 nights and 6 meals. A deposit of $75 is required in order to sign up now, with the remaining fee due by August 1. See LINDA KERRICK to register.
