Gundel Basart, the final Dorothy Stewart winner, will be presenting a trunk show and telling us about her quilting life. Come celebrate with her! President s Message I hope all of you are staying warm. I don t know about the rest of you but I am very glad to have my television back to normal, at least for a few months. We have a lot going on in the next few months. Right now I m working on the mystery quilt that Julie Brotherson is teaching, don t know what it will look like but that s part of the fun. Hopefully at the meeting I will have the signup for the Creston Retreat. I need to check on a few things but should have all the information by the meeting. Stay warm and see you soon. 2 Community Sew Day Please join me Saturday, March 19 th, National Quilt Day, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Lutheran Church of the Cross for our Spring Community Sew Day. Come for the day or just a couple of hours, whatever works for your schedule. Please bring your sewing machine, an extension cord, and supplies to sew-sew-sew!!! Irons, ironing boards and cutting mats will be available for your use. I have a new option this spring some of you might be interested in trying. It is creating scrappy blocks by sewing various size strips of fabric together. This is a project you can work on Saturday and then walk away from when you leave for the day. As in the past, I will have quilt kits available. Each kit contains a pattern and fabric for a twin-size quilt top. And of course, you are more than welcome to bring a donation quilt of your own to work on. Either way, you will be responsible for providing the batting, backing and binding to finish the quilt. Once again, I will have a list of people you can contact to help you out with the quilting. I am planning baked potatoes and the toppings for lunch. If you would like bring to something to share that would be great. The church has a pop vending machine or you can bring your own beverage. Everyone is welcome to join in the sewing. You do not need to be an EPQG Member to participate. Remember, this is a Community Day. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the Community Sew Day, please contact Marsha Horner at Refreshments can be as simple as you want them to be. It s up to the volunteers for that month. The member whose name is first in the list each month is the coordinator for the refreshments that month. Please remember the responsibilities of the refreshment committee each month: 1) Supply the goodies. 2) Supply the paper and plastic utensils. 3) Clean up after. 4) Take garbage out. Dumpster is right outside the back door. It is important that each us remains committed to these small responsibilities each month. Thanks!! Page 2

3 EPQG Spring Retreat April 14-16, 2016 Creston, Iowa It s time to sign up for Spring Retreat, but I do not have all the details. As per her president s message, Linda Northwick will hopefully have all information before the meeting. She will be available at the February guild meeting for sign ups. If you sign up for more than yourself, you must pay for all people signed up Name Phone Number Workshop for March Patricia Sanabria-Friederich from Wisconsin will be here in March. Her book is Mosaic Tile Quilts. The workshop will be a Cartago Table Runner. Paulette Roche will have a sample of the table runner and a list of the supplies needed. It s called Piece Works Quilt Shop and opened Monday February 1st. Check them out on Facebook, go visit, or both! 2016 Secret Sister If you signed up for Secret Sister, see Pat Meuler to draw a name for this year. Please make sure to follow the guidelines so that your secret sister has a good year. If you have questions, contact Pat Meuler at Chariton, Iowa There is a new guilt shop on the square in Chariton where the Ben Franklin store used to be. It is called Cindy Lou s Quilts and Gifts. 5 March 3-5, 2016 Retreat Christian Conference Center Newton, IA Welcome back to Newton! We will start registration at 6:15 pm on Monday, January 18, 2016, right before our guild meeting. Please determine who your roommates will be and register all at the same time. I will have a sewing room layout for you to mark your seating preferences. I will try to honor your wishes as much as possible. Since there have been many complaints about room assignments in the past, hotel rooms will be assigned to groups by drawing numbers. You will not be guaranteed an upstairs room, so please keep this in mind as you consider your ability to attend. The retreat provides hotel type rooms with bed linens and bath towels, Wi-Fi, and satellite tvs. There will be two meals per day, a late breakfast and dinner, for Friday and Saturday. A dinner will be provided on Thursday. The retreat begins at 8:00am on Thursday and ends at 6:00pm on Saturday. All costs are on the registration form. Retreats need volunteers, hosting, games, cleaning up the treat table, directing people to their rooms, answering questions during the retreat, setup, providing irons, ironing boards, bring movies, etc. If I can call on you to do some volunteer work during the retreat, please indicate this on your registration form.
