1 Eastern Polk Quilters Guild November 2014 Issue 167 Blog Site: Website: The next guild meeting will be on Monday, November 17th at 7:00. The speaker will be Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilting company. She will do a trunk show along with learning techniques. You can find out more about Missouri Star Quilts at COMMUNITY SERVICE There were 55 donation quilts in October, bringing the yearly total to 195. There were 26 donations for the Pleasant Hill Veterans Home with a total of 40 for the year. Lighthouse had 10 donations bringing the yearly total to 70. The Refugee Resettlement Program had 13 donations for a total of 62 for the year. Altoona Care Center has a total of 23 for the year with 6 donated this month. I am so proud to be a part of our group that does so much for our communities. With that in mind, I would like to encourage our members to look around and identify potential organizations that would be a good place for our quilts to go for next year. If you have any suggestions for our donation quilts, please contact Sheri Olson atiowasheri@gmail.com, or Also, make sure you have ideas at the November meeting. I look forward to hearing from you. Coming up next month: The December guild meeting will be on December 15th at 6:30. (Please note the early start time.) We will have our annual potluck, raffle quilt drawing, secret quilter friend reveal, and community service prize drawing. 3 At the November board meeting we will be electing the 2015 board officers. Vice President-Susie Martin Member at large (1st term)-diana Weirich Program Chair Elect (This position is still open) Newsletter Editor- Janet Rice Treasurer- (This position is still open) If you are interested in any of the above positons please contact a board member before the start of the November meeting. If there is more than one person interested in a position we will hold a vote. SECTION: Guest Fees PROPOSED BY-LAW AMENDMENT Currently Reads As: The guest fee is $5.00. This fee is applied toward annual dues if the non-member joins the Guild during the same meeting as a non-membership fee is paid. Guest may attend one meeting free per year free. Proposed Amendment: Delete Guest may attend one meeting per year free. Rationale: To clarify any confusion on a guest paying a fee to attend a meeting. To the Eastern Polk Quilt Guild Members, The above proposal to amend Section: Guest Fees in our By-laws is presented to the Eastern Polk Quilter Guild Members this November 2014 by the Board Members. It was brought to our attention that there has been some confusion for some time on whether a guest pay a fee of $5.00 or not. After much discussion we have decided to present to you the guild members the above amendment. At the January 2015 Guild meeting, the members that attend will be able to vote to accept this amendment or not. CRAFT SHOW The craft fair will soon be here. The November meeting will be the last meeting to bring your items for the craft sale. This is a large fundraiser for our guild and we appreciate all of your support. Please see page 8 of the newsletter for ideas. Contact Gundel if you have any questions. Gundel is still looking for volunteers for the sale. The shifts are 9-11, 11-1, and 1-3. Dumpster is right outside the back door. It is important that each one of us remains committed to these small responsibilities each month. Thanks!! The next Saturday Sew is December 5th. A big welcome to the newest member of the guild. Beth Berglin 1403 Cummins Parkway Des Moines, IA Our thoughts and prayers go out to Chris Steele on the loss of her mother. Saturday Sews are scheduled the first Saturday of the month. Starting at 9 am, it is a day to get together and work on a project of your choice. Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be a member of the guild to attend. Bring your lunch and join us. We ll have a great time. Bring an extension cord. If you need more information about our Saturday Sew Days, please contact Pat Felderman at or Sheri Olson at Page 4

5 The board is looking for a group of folks who would like to lead the 2015 Raffle Quilt production. We have a lot of support from our guild members during this process including providing donations, expert advice, ticket selling, and of course creating the quilt. The money generated from the quilt is used to offset speaker fees, pay guild insurance, provide a newsletter, and stretched in many different ways. Our membership dues don't cover all of the services provided to our guild members, so this is just one of the ways that we, as a guild, decided to supplement our income. Please consider actively participating in this fundraising activity. If you or your small group is interested, please let any board member know.
