1 Eastern Polk Quilters Guild September 2016 Issue 189 Web Site: The next guild meeting is on September 19, 2016 Speaker Missie Carpenter We All Start Somewhere! Missie will offer a trunk show of her quilts showing a few from the beginning and work up to present. The theme is that we all start quilting at the beginning. We all learn new things and different techniques along the way of becoming better quilters. Hello everyone, President s Message Hope all is well and you are getting done those projects you are working on. Nice that it is finally getting cooler. I hope you don t forget to check on those items you no longer need or want for the garage sale. Also think about what you want to donate for the craft show since we need to get them to Gundel at this meeting since the sale is October 8 th. I want to thank you all for your generosity. The member whose name is first in the list each month is the coordinator for the refreshments that month. The refreshments can be as simple or as complicated as the volunteers decide. Please remember the responsibilities of the refreshment committee each month: 1) Supply the goodies. 2) Supply the paper and plastic utensils. 3) Clean up after. 4) Take garbage out. 3 Quilters Needed for Donation Quilts Our ladies have done such a good job in piecing quilts for donations, more quilters are needed to quilt those quilts in order to get them to the people who need them. If you can provide quilting for donation quilts, please let Bert Warrick or Janet Rice know. If you are on the list for quilting donation quilts and you are no longer able to provide that service, please let us know as well. Janet would like to get the list updated so that it is accurate and people can get their quilts completed. Thanks so much! Ideas for future donations Is there an interest in making items other than quilts for donation? There has been some suggestion that we might do placemats, stockings, bibs, or other items. Please consider that question and come prepared to discuss at the next meeting. If you can t be at the next meeting, please send your ideas to any board member. We look forward to hearing your creative ideas. Page 3
4 2016 Raffle Quilt This is the raffle quilt for 2016, made by Colleen Anderson. Many thanks for all of her hard work. Raffle quilt tickets will be available at the September guild meeting. Each packet has 30 raffle tickets and a picture of the raffle quilt. Each year we ask our members to sell tickets or you may want to purchase them for yourself. You will be able to turn in money and pick up additional tickets at our meetings. There will be someone available at the meetings to collect money, make additional tickets available, and collect any tickets you do not sell. Ticket prices are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 Thank you for all you can do to help support the Eastern Polk Quilters Guild. Page 4
5 Veteran s Home Christmas Project Bert Warrick stopped by the Veterans Home the other day and was told how appreciative they are with the quilts that we have donated. We also discussed future projects. They expressed that they would very much like us to do Christmas stockings for the 34 veterans. The Veteran s Home can use the following items: Seasonal Pillowcases 300 piece puzzles 2 in 1 body wash for men Chocolate candy Ink pens and small writing tablets (Bert already has these) Toothpaste Deodorant Gift cards - McDonald's, Dairy Queen, movie passes to Copper Creek Travel mugs Plastic coffee cups There will be a box at the November meeting, as well as the Saturday sews for the rest of the year, for you to donate items. Stockings need to be made to put the items in. Saturday sew days are a good time to do that, so please come and help make stockings for the Veteran s home. Bert will be saying more at the next guild meeting. Questions? Contact Bert Warrick at Page 5

8 CAN YOU HELP WITH THE EPQG GARAGE SALE? There are lots of ways to help, most important is that we have lots of merchandise to sell. Have you gone through your stash and decided what material you really won t ever use. Don t forget to measure it and mark the yardage on the price tag. Staple that price tag to the selvage of the material. What about all the gadgets you ve collected over the years and don t use any more? Patterns and books are always needed and wanted. Do you really use all those rulers or cutting guides you bought for a special project and then never used again? After checking what you can contribute to the sale, please give some consideration to helping set-up or working the sale or clean-up after the sale. There will be some sign-up sheets at the next guild meeting for you to indicate how you would like to help make this a very successful sale. Garage Sale Mary Burns The 2016 guild garage sale will be held at my (Mary Burn s) house, 303 Walnut Dr NW, Bondurant The date is Saturday, September 24 from 8 to 4 pm. I have a 3 car width driveway and 2 car garage that we can use, so pray for NO rain that day. I will need a lot of help that day and the week before. Most important, we need donations! So start sorting out fabric, patterns, books, notions, machines, etc that you no longer need or want. I will also need lots of tables to stage merchandise. Could use help setting up Friday night and early Saturday morning. And help with taking everything down and taking leftover items to a thrift store (or wherever is the best place to donate). Someone might like to bring a few goodies that we can snack on. Lee and I will provide some cold soda or lemonade, and water. Remember that all money made from selling your donations goes directly to the guild, so be generous! Because the event is being held at a residence this year, we can advertise and hopefully have a lot of customers. The more we sell, the more $$$$$ for the guild. I plan on donating a few vintage items (including a treadle machine), plus fabric, notions and books. Please call me ( ) or (marylynneburns@yahoo.com) and let me know what you can do to help. Drop off of items will be during the week before the sale. Page 8
