1 September/December 2015 The kids are back in school and the visitors have slowed down. So now you hopefully have time to read this newsletter and sign up for classes. We have a full schedule of really great classes. There is surely something to peak everyone s interest! The class samples are hung in the store for you to come by and check out. So get out your personal calendars and start highlighting all the classes you want to take! We have a new employee at Accent Sewing. Her name is Francesca Smit. Francesca has been training on the Handi-Quilter and is doing a great job. Some of you may have already had her as your assistant. If you haven t had a chance to meet her, please stop by and say hello. We traveled to Bernina in July and came back with a great new sit down quilting machine called the Q20! It comes in a Koala cabinet and has two stitch regulators - not just one! Come by the store and take a test drive of this great new machine. We leave Saturday the 29th for Baby Lock Tech and will let you know when we get back what great new things we see there. It is always so inspirational for us to get to take these classes. It helps to rejuvenate and get us fired up to come back and share with you. The holidays are fast approaching. As always, we will have our customer Christmas party the 2nd Monday in December. Normally this is our embroidery club day. We truly have a great time with you and hope that most of you can at least drop by for a few minutes. We not only have refreshments but everyone receives a door prize. Come and share this great time with us! There are a couple of special events. Hatched in Africa is coming with their great trunk show! Check out the information inside the newsletter and call to sign up. Also, Anita Goodesign and Baby Lock are teaming up. We will have a hands on event in October. Space is limited and seats are filling up quick. If you are interested, call soon! We want to thank Baby Lock for providing Destiny sewing machines! Sewing At The Beach is also gearing up for their January classes. Their website should be up and running. Go to to see all the great classes they have lined up. 2 Dresden Express Mr. Lyle will show you show to create a one of-a-kind Dresden plate quilt. This quilt looks so complicated but it is really so easy to make. Choose a fabric with at least a 12 repeat or larger. You will be so amazed that no two blocks look the same! Each one is a surprise! Taught by Lyle Sapough Tuesday Sept. 1, 8, 15, 22,& 29 Time: 10:00-1:00 Class Fee: $65.00 plus supplies Jacks All Around This quilt makes an adorable table topper for the fall. It features both happy as well as evil Jack O Lanterns. Lots of fun to make! Taught by Karen Burech Thursday Sept. 10 Time: 10:00-4:00 Class Fee: $45.00 plus supplies Bobbi s Sewing Workshop Bring your choice of project and get expert coaching in sewing and fitting your garment. Learn methods for more professional looking clothing - better collars and necklines, invisible pockets, professional topstitching, fitting difficult areas, and other techniques required by your project. This is a great course to begin or expand your sewing skills. Open to all ages. Taught by Bobbi Antonucci Saturday Sept. 19, Oct. 3, 17, 31, Nov. 14, Dec. 5, & 19 Time: 10:45-1:45 Class Fee: $20 per week or $60.00 for 4 classes Cuddly Alligator Get ready for the Holidays early by making this adorable stuffed crocodile/alligator for the kids in your family. They won t be able to resist this little guy! Classes are one session in which you will cut out, sew, stuff, complete your crocodile, and go home with one gift off your list. Taught by Linda Foerster Wednesday Sept. 23 Time: 10:00-2:00 Staggered Steps Have a jelly roll you want to use and not do another 1600 inch quilt? This is a fun and fast quilt. The sample uses an assortment of background pieces or you can use one fabric. Make half of the pattern for a baby quilt. 3 Fabric Wreath Using 4 to 5 squares, create a one of a kind fabric wreath. Let Tina show you how easy it is to create these special wreaths. You can make a wreath for each season they are so easy to do! Taught by Tina Wise Wednesday Sept. 30 Time: 10:00-12:00 Class Fee: $20.00 includes the wreath Not Just Another Border Tired of putting borders on your panels. Here is a way to add a border and use up some of your scraps. If you want a calmer border, you could use an assortment of matching fat quarters. Taught by Joanne Shropshire Monday Oct. 5 Time: 10:00-4:00 Fancy Quilt This is a fast and easy quilt to make. The borders are incorporated in the rows so it makes construction easy. This would also look great in Christmas colors! Taught by Pat Roman Tuesday Oct. 6, 13, & 20 Time: 10:00-1:00 Class Fee: $45.00 plus supplies Two Color Bargello This quilt is amazing! Using your choice of a background ombre fabric and one more fabric, you will create this one-of-a-kind quilt. It really looks difficult but Karen will show you just how easy it is to make! Taught by Karen Burch Wednesday Oct. 7 & Thurs. Oct. 15 Time: 10:00-2:00 Class Fee: $50.00 plus supplies Fall Table Runner This very simple table runner can be made in fall colors and is great for Thanksgiving. Or you could make it out of Christmas or Hanukah fabrics for the December holidays. Pattern will be supplied. Taught by Karen Burch Thursday Oct. 8 Time: 10:00-2:00 If you purchase a software program from Accent Sewing, please call to schedule your first instruction classes. 4 Night Sky This is a striking star pattern using monochromatic fat quarters. The sample is a lap size made with 16 different bright solids on a black background. Batiks could also be used for the stars. Or it can even be made scrappy. The stars are made using the Sidekick Ruler by Jaybird Quilts. If you do not wish to purchase the ruler, you can make templates to use instead. Other sizes of the quilt are available. Note: some basic quilting experience is necessary for this class. Taught by Karen Burch Wednesday Oct. 14 & 21 Time: 10:00-4:00 Class Fee: $50.00 plus supplies Table Ensemble The holiday and gift giving season is fast approaching. Join us for a one or two day class to see what you can make from 1 1/2 yards of a holiday border fabric. There will be two border fabrics to choose from. Day one will be a table runner and table topper. Day two will be placemats, coasters, towel, and a tissue box cover if there is time. Plus we will decorate napkins in a fabric of your choice with leftover strips from the border fabric. Taught by Diane Creson Thursday Oct. 22 & Friday Oct. 23 Time: 10:00-3:00 Class Fee: 1 Class for $35.00 or both for $60.00 Beginning Quilting This class is NOT JUST for beginning quilters. If you have never taken a beginning quilting class, you should definitely sign up for this one. This class is NOT about completing a king size quilt in a couple of weeks. This class IS about taking any piece of fabric and helping you turn it into a well-constructed project. This class will take you through the basic steps of rotary cutting, 1/4 seams, adding borders, and finishing touches. You will learn from beginning to end how to make a quilt! Taught by Melissa Wells Tuesday Oct. 27, Nov. 3, 10, & 17 Time: 10:00-2:00 Class Fee: $90.00 plus supplies Cuddly Alligator Get ready for the Holidays early by making this adorable stuffed crocodile/alligator for the kids in your family. 5 Wine Bottle Doll Have some fun and let your creativity run wild! Barbara will show you how you can turn an empty wine bottle into a one of a kind piece of art. Each participant will receive a kit with loads of supplies needed to complete your own bottle doll, including silk fabrics for the hair. A variety of colors will be available. No two dolls will be alike! Be sure to pick up the list of items you will need to bring with you to class. Taught by Barbara Potoczny Wednesday Nov. 11 Time: 10:00-4:00 And Friday Nov. 13 Time: 10:00-12:00 Class Fee: $50.00 Needle Felted Silk Beach Scene Create a beautiful three dimensional beach scene with luscious silk fabrics and embellish it with your favorite beach memorabilia. Barbara will guide you step by step as you create your own scene with water splashing up on the shore. You choose ocean colors in blues, aquas, and teals from a large variety of silks and other fabulous fabrics. Once you have finished your own beach scene, Barbara will show you several options for hanging your completed project. Each participant will receive a kit with lots of silks and other supplies needed for your project. This class requires an embellisher or a needle punch foot for your machine. Be sure to pick up the short list of items you will need to bring with you to class. Taught by Barbara Potoczny Thursday Nov. 12 Time: 10:00-4:00 and Friday Nov. 13 Time: 1:00-3:00 Class Fee: $55.00 Christmas Feathered Star This very pretty Feathered Star Christmas quilt could be hung on the wall, thrown over the back of a chair, or used as a table topper. It is not difficult to make and will make a nice addition to your holiday décor or it would make a nice gift. Taught by Karen Burch Thursday Nov. 19 Time: 10:00-2:00 Class Fee: $45.00 plus supplies Unchained You have heard with quilting you start from the center and that is where we start with this quilt. 6 Clubs Embroidery Club For those of you with embroidery machines, we have embroidery club which meets once a month. You don t have to own a Bernina or Baby Lock machine to come to embroidery club. We accept all brands! You must, however, know how to use your machine. We meet on the 2nd Monday of every month at 2:00 or 6:00. Club features a new project every month. Sometimes there will be a kit and other times you will need to bring your own supplies. We try to do projects that you can finish in the two hour time frame, but sometimes you may have to finish at home. Fee for club is $5.00 each month. You will be notified by what the project will be. You just need to a response that you plan to attend and what time you will be attending. Hope to see you there! Serger Club Serger club is the last Friday of every month. As long as you know how to use your serger, any brand of serger can attend. There will be a $5.00 charge per month. As with the embroidery club, I will send out an letting you know what the project will be. To attend, just send me an or call the store and sign up. See you there! Class Policy - You must pay at the time you sign up for a class! This will allow the teachers to make preparations for the correct number of students. Also, please do NOT wear perfume to class! Please sign up for class even if there is no charge for the class! This is especially true if the class is held after store hours. You can call to register or us at AccentSewing@aol.com. If you must cancel a class, please do so as soon as possible. Class fees are not refundable but you can receive a store credit or apply the fee to another class. When you purchase a machine from Accent Sewing, you receive one year free service, machine instruction classes, and 10% off all purchases!
