1 September/December 2016 Wow! Talk about the dog days of summer! It is even too hot for Abby! I have to say I am even looking forward to cooler days. The kids all start back to school next week so it s time for everyone to get out their calendars. You ve been entertaining guest and family this summer so there hasn t been any time for classes. Well, now it is your time. We have a lot of great classes coming up. You know Accent Sewing has the greatest teachers so let s fill up those classes and learn some great new techniques! We also have the Anita Goodesign/Baby Lock Event in September. Hatched in Africa and Floriani are coming in October. It s going to be a very busy fall! I feel very fortunate to be able to host these events for you and hopefully you will be able to attend all of them. If you have been in the store lately, you know that there has been a lot of rearranging and decorating. I have to thank Elizabeth and Donna for doing such a great job! If you like what they have done to the store, please let them know. Bob and I went to Bernina University in July in New Orleans. Designer Plus V8 software is now out. If you have an older version of the software, you should come by the store and let us show you all the great new features. The Bernina 700 Embroidery Only machine will be arriving shortly. If you really want to be able to sew and embroider at the same time, the 700 is the answer for you. There will also be a Special Edition Bernina 765 coming. As soon as they arrive in the store, I ll let you know so you can come and see them for yourself. We also picked up a new line of machines from Brewer called the Sparrows. They are a great entry level machine at a great price. Come in and let us give you a demo. We will be going to Baby Lock Tech the end of this month and we can t wait to see what they have for us. If you get their s, they have already been peaking everyone s interest with the new Jazz machine. We will be able to tell you a lot more when we get back. If you are interested in getting a demonstration on any of our machines but don t have a lot of spare time, call and make an appointment with me. I will be glad to meet with you and help answer any questions you may have about purchasing the right machine for your needs. I hope you all had a great and safe summer! Quilt it as you go. Stitching adds dimension and appeal to a classic. This quilt is easy enough for a beginner and yet interesting enough for a seasoned quilter. Fun and beautiful. Taught by Sandy Zeleznik Tuesday Sept. 12, 19, 26, Oct. 3 Time: 10:00-1:00 Technique Class We are going to try something new. Diane Brescia has moved to our area and she is going to teach different technique classes. The first one is Paper Pieced Log Cabin Squares. This will be a two hour hands on class. If you have never tried paper piecing (sometimes called foundation piecing) this is your chance to try the technique. Taught by Diane Brescia Tuesday Sept. 13 Time: 10:00-12:00 Class Fee: $15.00 plus supplies 3D Dresden Pillow This is a fun class to learn how to make a modern split Dresden Plate pillow. Using a 15 degree ruler will help this process go quickly. This class is all about a great technique that makes the quilting process more simplified. Taught by Joanne Shropshire Wednesday Sept. 14 Time: 10:00-3:30 Fabric Swap Do you have lots of fat quarters you want to use up? This is the perfect quilt for that and it goes together quickly. This pattern uses 12 fat quarters for a 40x60 quilt. You can also add a 6 border or a 2 inner border and 6 outer border. Taught by Karen Burch Saturday Sept. 17 Time: 10:00-2:00 Sunflower Splash Judy has done it again! This magnificent sunflower is so real you can almost smell it! Let Judy show you her famous applique techniques to make this stunning wall hanging. Make a few for your quilting and sewing buddies for Christmas! You are going to love this pin cushion. It hardly takes any fabric and goes together fast. Make it today and use it tonight. 4 Two Color Bargello This quilt is amazing! Using your choice of a background ombre fabric and one more fabric, you will create this one-of-a-kind quilt. It really looks difficult but Karen will show you just how easy it is to make! Taught by Karen Burch Thursday Oct. 13 & 20 Time: 1:00-5:00 Spring Sprouts This is a kit available from Moda. The applique shapes are pre-fused and pre-cut ready to iron on. Everything you need for the quilt top is included in the kit. You will love this quilt! It incorporates applique with beautiful pieced blocks. If you do one class, this should be the one. Taught by Sandy Zeleznik Monday Oct. 17, 24, Nov. 14 & 21 Time: 10:00-1:00 Ever Changing Tuffet A tuffet made the easy way! I have designed a pattern that eliminates all of the fuss. Simple cutting and sewing makes this tuffet so much fun to make! The big highlight of this tuffet is you can change the covers using the same foundation. So you can make a tuffet for Christmas, Easter, summer, 4th of July, fall, or just because you can. You will be able to complete your tuffet and have time to make an extra cover in class. They make great gifts and you will want to make more when you see how easy they are to make! 5 Beginning Quilting This class is NOT JUST for beginning quilters. If you have never taken a beginning quilting class, you should definitely sign up for this one. This class is NOT about completing a king size quilt in a couple of weeks. This class IS about taking any piece of fabric and helping you turn it into a well-constructed project. This class will take you through the basic steps of rotary cutting, 1/4 seams, adding borders, and finishing touches. You will learn from beginning to end how to make a quilt! Taught by Melissa Wells Monday Oct. 31 & Nov. 7 Time: 10:00-2:00 & Tuesday Nov. 1 & 8 Time: 10:00-2:00 Class Fee: $90.00 plus supplies Stack N Whack Star In this class, you will use a larger print fabric and let it do most of the work for you. This is what the Stack N Whack technique is all about. We will break it down into 3 classes. First stacking and cutting your fabric, then sewing the centers, and the final class is setting them all together! Taught by Joanne Shropshire Wednesday Nov. 2, 9, & 16 Time: 10:00-1:00 Class Fee: $65.00 plus supplies Split Oak Leaf Wall Hanging This exciting wall quilt is made of alternating positive/negative images and can be made to look country or contemporary - depending on your choice of fabrics. The class will focus on accuracy and machine applique techniques. Taught by Judy Lilly Friday Nov. 4 Time: 10:00-4:00 & Friday Nov. 11 Time: 10:00-1:00 Class Fee: $65.00 plus supplies Flower Serger Quilt This quilt is made entirely with your serger. It is quick and easy and oh so lovely! If you love your serger but get little use out of it, this is the class for you. Please let us know what kind of serger your have and be sure to bring the instructions for your machine with you especially if you are rusty at threading it. It s preferable that you have made the 2 fabric bargello, but not a requirement. Dec. 8 10:00-1:00 Clubs Embroidery Club For those of you with embroidery machines, we have embroidery club which meets once a month. You don t have to own a Bernina or Baby Lock machine to come to embroidery club. We accept all brands! You must, however, know how to use your machine. We meet on the 2nd Monday of every month at 2:00 or 5:00. Club features a new project every month. Sometimes there will be a kit and other times you will need to bring your own supplies. We try to do projects that you can finish in the two hour time frame, but sometimes you may have to finish at home. Fee for club is $5.00 each month. You will be notified by what the project will be. You just need to a response that you plan to attend and what time you will be attending. Hope to see you there! Serger Club Serger club is the fourth Monday of every month. As long as you know how to use your serger, any brand of serger can attend. There will be a $5.00 charge per month. As with the embroidery club, I will send out an letting you know what the project will be. To attend, just send me an or call the store and sign up. See you there! Class Policy - You must pay at the time you sign up for a class! This will allow the teachers to make preparations for the correct number of students. Also, please do NOT wear perfume to class! Please sign up for class even if there is no charge for the class! This is especially true if the class is held after store hours. You can call to register or us at AccentSewing@aol.com.
