Ron s Corner Okay - Here it Comes! Top Shelf Quilts Fall 2016 Quilt Retreat! The 2016 Fall Quilt Retreat is booked for November 10 13, It will be held at the Matteson Holiday Inn Conference Center (500 Holiday Plaza Drive, Matteson, IL 60443). The new location provides a bigger sewing room which means more room for retreat attendees. It is still only 7 miles (or about a 12 minute drive) from Top Shelf Quilts. The cost for the four day event will be $175 for the sewing room which includes lunch Thursday thru Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday. The room cost is $89 (plus tax) per night. Retreat doors will open at 9 am on Thursday and the retreat will end at 5 pm Sunday. During the retreat the sewing room doors will be locked at 10pm and unlocked at 7am. Retreaters wishing to sew longer at night or begin earlier in the morning will have access to the room by going to the front desk between 10pm and 7am. There is security at the hotel and in the lobby during the evening/night because there is a bar/nightclub on premises. There are 15 rooms reserved for retreat attendees. Let the hotel know you are attending the Top Shelf Quilt s Fall Retreat when you make your reservation ( ). Rooms may be shared with up to 4 people. The hotel is set up with the first floor rooms being pet friendly rooms and there is $15 dollar per pet charge if you bring a pet along. The standard rooms start on the second floor. So mark your calendars for the Fall Retreat and don t forget to come in and reserve your spot beginning September 1 st, A deposit of $95 is required at the time you reserve your spot. Then plan on having a really great time with new and old friends. Oh, and keep in mind, Laura will also be there to do those massages that keep you feeling stress free. A Night with Karen DeWitt Karen will be making a special presentation at Top Shelf Quilts on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, from 6pm to 8pm. Karen s topic will be Every Quilt Has a Story as she presents her own inspirations from authors and quilters, along with sharing stories around her own quilts. Karen has just published the fourth book in her Bunco Club Series, entitled Quilting Warriors: Kendra and Lettie. Hopefully she will bring some of her books, patterns, etc. along. 2 July Happenings Needle and Thread Stitchers Do you love to do hand stitching? If so, join the Needle and Thread Stitchers at Top Shelf Quilts. Bring your latest appliqué, embroidery, or hand quilting project. We all love to do quilt-related hand stitching with our friends! Come and sew with those old friends and at the same time make some new ones. We meet at the shop the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00 pm. This is not a class, but a social sewing bee for those of us who love to stitch by hand. See you there - No cost!! Wednesdays, July 6th, August 3rd, September 7th, Hey Kids, Let s Make Pillowcases! w/sharon R This class is for kids ages 8 and up who would like to learn to make a pillowcase for their bed or to take on their next sleepover. We will cover how the sewing machine works, sewing machine safety and the construction of the pillowcase. Participants will need access to a sewing machine, know how to thread it and have a full bobbin. Pillowcase kit is included in cost of class. It is super fast and easy using the Quilt as you go method. It measures 16 x 40 and can be finished in one setting. 3 July/August Happenings Quilting: A Simple Sampler w/chris W Always wanted to learn to quilt? How about starting with a simple 9 or 12 block sampler? Come and learn the basics of machine piecing, quilting lingo, and basic machine quilting to make a wall quilt or quilted throw-size patchwork sampler. Lots of basic information will be discussed in class and you will have homework! Be sure your sewing machine is in good working order. Come and join the fun. After this 5 session workshop you will have a finished quilt, as well as the skills to complete any patchwork quilt you have been dreaming about making! Thursdays, July 28, August 11, 25. Join us for a day of socializing, sharing experiences and sharing rows while we begin to put them together into a quilt, a table or bed runner, or something else. Operation Care Package (OCP) Gift Bags, Shower Bags and Christmas Stockings w/pam S Join Top Shelf Quilts in helping Operation Care Package by sewing for our troops. We will sew 3 different packing items: gift bags, shower bags and Christmas stockings. Operation Care Package will then fill each with necessary items and ship them to our deployed troops. The kits will be ready for you to pick up at the shop on July 1, 2016 through the end of the year. Kits will include instructions and materials. Kits may be completed on your own you are invited to Operation Care Package Sew days at TSQ. Bring your machine and sewing tools. You may stay a couple of hours or stay all day. We will have kits, mats and irons, etc. for your use those days. Quilted Bowl Potholders w/ronnie S These quilted bowls are perfect for warming up a bowl of soup in the microwave, but they also can hold a bowl with ice cream, chocolate or your sewing supplies. The table runner is basically made up of half/quarter square triangles. We will use it to make any one or all of seven different timeless block designs using 2 1/2 strips (Bali Pops, Jelly Rolls or Tonga Treats). By creating various 3-strip stratas which are then cut with a template and twisted into various block designs you can create a beautiful table runner or quilt of your own.
