Ron s Corner Greetings TSQ Fans, Summer has arrived and we are ready for the projects you have been wanting to work on. I m excited to share some of the new items and opportunities that you are and will be seeing in the store. Here are some of them. Mystery Quilt by Debbie Caffrey The 6-month Mystery Quilt started June 3, 2017, but it s not too late to join. Cost is $12. The wonderful Staff at TSQ will be happy to help you select your fabrics for this beautiful and fun quilt. Sewing and Embroidery Classes TSQ will be offering basic sewing (July 26th) and embroidery classes (August 16th). In addition, we will be offering more specific classes on embroidery techniques, creative techniques with feet, updates to the Software, (September 13th) and the new ToolBox Software features (August 2nd). Getting to Know Hue Block of the Month From Nancy Rink and Marcus Fabrics. What began as a simple concept for a group of modern mixers for larger scale prints has taken on a life of its own in GTKH: Getting to Know Hue, and these are not your common blender prints! Quilters in search of a fun spectrum of small, stash worthy coordinates will love Nancy s contemporary collection. As she puts it, The GTKH collection is the supporting cast to help create drama in the quilts we make. And as you see, they play equally well on their own in her new BOM! (See photo page 7) Of course, it wouldn t be a Nancy Quilt without beautiful appliqué highlights, and she guides stitchers in both traditional appliqué methods and the optional laser-cut method. Laser cut fabric kits will be available. The first BOM meeting will be September 9 th at 9:30 am. Kindred Spirits Club II From Jill Shaulis at Yellow Creek Designs - This club is available to you at a reasonable cost with oh so few rules! Each pattern set includes 6 patterns (7 projects total). Join the club and finish six projects and the seventh will be free. It is coordinated with fabric from the Kindred Spirits Sisters collection by Jill Shaulis for Windham Fabrics. Kits will be available at TSQ September 16, (See photo page 7) TSQ Fall Quilting Retreat Mark your calendars August 1 st, 2017, at 10am we will start taking reservations for the Fall Retreat. The retreat is November 9, 10, 11, and 12, Total cost is $180. This covers the cost of the meeting room, lunches on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and a continental breakfast on Sunday. Scrap Bag Challenge Quilts - Going Up for Charity Raffle from July 5th thru October 15th Yes, you read that correctly! Chris, Gloria and Marsha pulled all your Scrap Bag Blocks together into not one, but two gorgeous quilts - one large quilt and one small quilt. The quilts are hanging in the TSQ classroom. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. The proceeds will go to the Children s Heart Foundation. The mission of the Children s Heart Foundation, Illinois Chapter, is to increase research funding and to promote awareness to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects. (See photo page 7) Sulky 40wt Rayon Embroidery Thread - Coming in July 10th. Sulky embroidery thread has the same luster and soft, warm, natural look as silk with silk s smoothness, but it is stronger than either silk or cotton thread of the same weight. It won t fray, fuzz or shrink and it has less stretch than polyester so it is the thread that most digitizers use as the standard for their embroidery designs. OESD Stabilizer and Patterns Arrived in June at TSQ - For all your embroidery needs! OESD (Oklahoma Embroidery Supply & Design) is an industry leading creator of machine embroidery designs and embroidery products. Super Spree is Saturday October 21 st and Sunday October 22 nd, This event will be held at the Holiday Inn - Matteson Convention Center from 9 5 both days. Cost: $129. You ll get 6 projects at this event and lunch is included. Call the shop now and reserve your spot. Anita Goodesign Embroidery Coming soon to TSQ Embroidery designs! and Scissor Sharpening John is in the store on the 2 nd and 4 th Thursdays of the month from 10 until 2. Bring in your machine and/or your scissors. John will put them back into tip top shape. Don t forget, for every machine you have serviced you get an entry to TSQ s quarterly drawing for prizes. Sew Steady Tables We now have Sew Steady Tables for your sewing machines, sergers, and inserts for sewing cabinets. Sew Steady Tables are portable acrylic tables that are custom made for each machine. Sew Steady Tables encompass the entire sewing arm/flatbed sewing surface. These are great tables for those who free motion quilt. TSQ on Facebook and Instagram For those of you who already follow TSQ on Facebook/Instagram you already know that we are keeping you up to date with what is happening in the store. For those of you who haven t liked Top Shelf Quilts on Facebook, now is the time. You ll get pictures of what s happening, notices of events, videos of new fabric and notions that have arrived, and if you like and comment on giveaway posts, you are automatically entered into a drawing for that item. Make sure to share the TSQ post with your friends so they can be entered to win as well. Full line of Quilter s Select Rulers including mats and rotary cutters are arriving mid July. Heritage Quilters Guild Drawing Don t forget to buy your Raffle Tickets from the Heritage Quilters Guild to enter the drawing for the beautiful quilt designed by Gail Stepanek, pieced by Guild members, and quilted by Jan Hutchinson. Check out the quilt at The quilt is currently traveling to quilt shows and already winning prizes. Additionally, bring your ticket stub into TSQ with your name and phone number filled out on the back and enter our monthly drawing for prizes. Drawings will be monthly from July 2017 thru September 30, Ron Summer Happenings Sprinkles Quilt w/pam S This 37 x 44 quilt is created with 2 ½ strips and the Sidekick or Super Sidekick Ruler (or 6 x 6 piece of template plastic). It is a terrific pattern for small baby prints or for those charming 30 s prints we all love. Make the whole quilt or a few blocks for a pillow, table topper or wall hanging. Wednesday, July 12, 2017, 1:00 4:00 (Level: Confident Beginner) Cost: $30.00 To Our Customers Taking Classes Classes with less than three participants may have to be canceled. It is also imperative that you have: a sewing machine in good working order, a 1/4 foot for your machine or very accurate marking for the 1/4, a good working knowledge of how your machine operates and a copy of your machine s manual, if possible. & Quilting w/ Chris W Interested in Patchwork and Quilting but not sure where to start? Made a few things, but want to brush up on your skills and see what else you might like to try? Let s begin with some traditional blocks to build your skills and use a different setting to make a couch throw size quilt. We ll start easy and keep going in order to try many techniques used in the most popular quilt patterns to give you the confidence to accomplish anything. Choose your fabrics for the child in your life, a guy you want to keep warm, your favorite holiday, or something to match your couch! We will meet five times, usually two weeks apart. You will have home-fun (not homework) sewing to do in between classes. Come join Nicole as she teaches you the ins and outs of Bargello making to create a beautiful Bargello quilt of your very own. Sundays, July 16 AND 23, 2017, 12:00-3:00 (Level: Confident Beginner/Intermediate) Cost: $50.00 Operation Care Package (OCP): Shower & Gift Bags/Neck Coolers & Christmas Stockings w/pam S Join Top Shelf Quilts in helping Operation Care Package by sewing draw string Shower and Gift Bags, Neck Coolers and Christmas Stockings for our troops. Operation Care Package will then fill them with personal care items which will be shipped to our deployed troops. Complete kits are ready for you at the shop. Kits will include instructions and materials to make two bags or stockings. Kits can be completed on your own OR you are invited to a Shower &Gift Bag/Neck Cooler & Stocking Sew Day at TSQ. Bring your machine and sewing tools, stay a couple of hours or stay all day. We will have kits, mats and irons, etc. for your use those days. We will be serving snacks, lunch and Chocolate! Join us as we have fun together and say Thank You to all those serving our country. Ryan s Case for Smiles Pillowcases w/paula M Ryan s Case for Smiles is one of the few volunteer organizations dedicated to Help Kids Feel Better to Heal Better. Please come and join us! Donate just a little bit of time to sew a few pillowcases for kids in the hospital!! Bring your sewing machine and sewing supplies; we will have pillowcase kits here for you to sew into pillowcases. If you are looking for an ombré affect in a quilt, this class is for you. Blooming Nine Patch is a fantastic pattern to use busy prints in where each fabric fades into the next. You won't regret trying this pattern out! Sew together 16 of these 22.5 Triangles to create a complete circle, 8 to create a half-circle, or 4 to create a quarter circle. Create Fans, Dresden Plates, etc. up to a finished size of 36 inches.
