1 Homespun Happenings from The Calico Shoppe Spring - Summer 2014 Make a Quilt - Make a Memory As of this writing I can finally say WELCOME SPRING! It has been a long winter but the trees are budding, the birds are singing and we have beautiful sunshine (most of the time). Let the sunshine in and create those beautiful summer quilts to lighten and brighten your home. Quilt Market was mid May, so stop in and see all of the wonderful things we brought back. The new books and patterns are spectacular. I don t know how the designers keep producing such marvelous designs. The fabric collections were also spectacular, but we will have to wait awhile before they show up. I believe they will start arriving late August through November. Can t wait, they are gorgeous! Along with the new books and patterns from market, we will also be receiving, or have received, beautiful collections for Summer, and of course all those luscious Holiday fabrics are starting to arrive. Annual Yard and Quilt Sale July 25th to August 2nd We have combined two great sales into one. We will have hundreds of one yard pieces for $5 & our quilt sale, where you can purchase the projects we have used as models in the shop. Some are finished and some are in need of a loving quilters hand to finish. Shop early for the best selection!

2 Simple Whatnots Club by: Kim Diehl Join the fun as we make an exclusive little project designed by Kim Diehl each month! If you are a Kim Diehl fan, then you will fall in love with the monthly quilts. We will be using the Vintage Farmhouse fabric collection by Kim Diehl for our Simple Whatnots Club. These projects are simple and do-able and take their inspiration from traditional blocks and motifs using modern techniques. Terrific monthly patterns from Kim, along with a sprinkling of tips and recipes for your enjoyment. This is a 6 month program, which we will be starting July 15th at 9:30 am or 6:00 pm. Choose which time works best for you. If you choose the morning meeting, bring your machine and start stitching your project after the meeting. $26.00 monthly which includes your patterns and fabrics! A little less complicated with beautiful results! Annual Fall Retreat October at the Best Western Trail Lodge We are again having our Fall Retreat at the Best Western Trail Lodge in Eau Claire. Enjoy a fun filled weekend with fellow quilters as they stitch up a storm and share quilting tidbits and more!!! You will have luxurious accommodations with 2 queen beds, a fridge and a microwave in each room. There is also a pool and hot tub to lounge by for a little relaxation between projects. Our retreat will begin Thursday evening at 5:00 pm and will end around 3:00 pm Sunday. Cost of the retreat is only $110 which includes lunches and suppers with ice water and coffee available. 4 New Block of the Months A Merry Christmas to You Block of the Month We will be starting this fantastic project in July and you will have a beautiful quilt in time for the Holidays! This will be a 5 month project and you can make the large quilt (45 x 48), or you can create 4 lovely smaller projects. The decision is going to be hard! You will be doing a little embroidery, a little appliqué and a little piecing. What could be better! Pick up your pattern and fabrics each month, or we will be glad to mail your kits to you each month. $25.00 monthly I Believe in Snowmen Embroidery Block of the Month Do you love to embroider? Do you love redwork? Do you love Snowmen? If you answered yes, than this is the project for you! This wonderful quilt will quickly become a family heirloom to enjoy for years to come. We will be starting this project in July and it will run for 10 months. Includes pattern, fabric and Cosmo embroidery floss. Secrets and Shadows This is a 12 month Block of the Month program honoring women from World War I and World War II who risked their lives as spies in service to their country. Read one woman s story each month to look into the life of a female spy during times of war. The quilt measures 89 x 89 And the fabric is fantastic! 5 CLASS REGISTRATION Pre-registration is required for all classes. Please stop in to register and pick up your supply lists, or you may register by phone, using a credit card. If registering by phone you may pick your supply list up at a later date (if you live out of town and would like us to mail your supply list, please let us know). Payment must be received at time of registration to guarantee your spot in the class. If you must cancel your reservation, we must know at least five days prior to the class, or no refund will be given. We always respect copyright laws. If a pattern or book is required for your class, you must have your own copy. Class Schedule Day and Night Quilt Sat August 2 9:30-1:30 Create this fantastic quilt using Quilt in a Day s simplified techniques. This is one quilt which will dazzle everyone who sees it, and only you will know just how easy it was to construct. $20.00 plus required book Jan Lattice Bones Sat. June 28th 9:30-1:30 You will be creating bone blocks no kidding, and then twist and turn them to create this exciting quilt! Pattern calls for 2 1/2 strips, but 10 squares will also work. $25.00 includes pattern Lynn D. Cathedral Window Pillow Mon. July 14 9:30-1:30 or 5:30-9:30 Have fun as you stitch up this charming pillow. You will be using modern techniques to create this vintage design. Aug. 23 9:30-1:30 Using Atkinson Designs Urban Cabin pattern, you can stitch up this cute variation in no time.
