Always turn the pwer ff when the device is nt in use. D nt pen D nt pen the device r attempt t disassemble the internal parts r mdify them in any way. The device cntains n user-serviceable parts. If it shuld appear t be malfunctining, discntinue use immediately and have it inspected by qualified NEXO-SA service persnnel. 3 IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR THE UNITED KINGDOM Lcatin Befre mving the device, remve all cnnected cables. When setting up the device, make sure that the AC utlet yu are using is easily accessible. If sme truble r malfunctin ccurs, immediately turn ff the pwer switch and discnnect the plug frm the utlet. Even when the pwer switch is turned ff, electricity is still flwing t the prduct at the minimum level. When yu are nt using the prduct fr a lng time, make sure t unplug the pwer crd frm the wall AC utlet. Cnnectins Befre cnnecting the device t ther devices, turn ff the pwer fr all devices. Befre turning the pwer n r ff fr all devices, set all vlume levels t minimum. Use nly speaker cables fr cnnecting speakers t the speaker jacks. Use f ther types f cables may result in fire. XLR-type cnnectrs are wired as fllws (IEC60268 standard): pin 1: grund, pin 2: ht (+) and pin 3: cld (-). Use nly SP4 plugs fr cnnecting SP cnnectrs. Maintenance Inspect the ventilatin hles and clean them peridically. Dust and dirt can seriusly degrade the effectiveness f the cling and result in malfunctin r fire. Remve the pwer plug frm the AC utlet when cleaning the device. The perfrmance f cmpnents with mving cntacts, such as switches, vlume cntrls, and cnnectrs, deterirates ver time. Cnsult qualified NEXO-SA service persnnel abut replacing defective cmpnents. Handling cautin When turning n the AC pwer in yur audi system, always turn n the device LAST, t avid speaker damage. When turning the pwer ff, the device shuld be turned ff FIRST fr the same reasn. D nt insert yur fingers r hands in any gaps r penings n the device (vents ) Avid inserting r drpping freign bjects (paper, plastic, metal, etc.) int any gaps r penings n the device (vents, etc.) If this happens, turn ff the pwer immediately and unplug the pwer crd frm the AC utlet. Then have the device inspected by qualified NEXO-SA service persnnel. D nt use the device fr a lng perid f time at a high r uncmfrtable vlume level, since this can cause permanent hearing lss. If yu experience any hearing lss r ringing in the ears, cnsult a physician. D nt rest yur weight n the device r place heavy bjects n it, and avid use excessive frce n the buttns, switches r cnnectrs. D nt use this device fr any purpse ther than driving ludspeakers. Imprtant ntice fr the United Kingdm Cnnecting the Plug and Crd WARNING! THIS APPARATUS MUST BE EARTHED. 4 DTDAMP INTRODUCTION DTDAMP intrductin Welcme t the DTDAMP manual. Please take sme time t read it and learn hw t set up the device. The DTDAMP is an audi pwer amplifier develped t perfectly match the NEXO DTD Cntrller. It is a pure pwer amplifier, withut any audi prcessing, thus ensuring a negligible latency in the feedback lp feeding the DTD Cntrller. Rack installatin The DTDAMP shuld be munted int a suitable rack unit, ensuring bth frnt and rear munting hles are used in rder t prtect the amp frm mechanical damage. Air flw f the DTDAMP is frm frnt t back, thus installatin can mix bth DTDAMP (with DTD Cntrller) and NXAMP in the same rack, bth using the same air flw directin. Nte that the utputs f the DTDAMP are cnnected t the DTD-T, while its integrated frnt panel patch is used t cnnect t the speakers. With the DTD-I, pwer utput f the DTDAMP will have t be spit in tw (ne side used fr DTD-I feedback, the ther ne ging t the speakers). WARNING! Unplug the device frm mains befre cnnecting r discnnecting any cable t it. Cnnecting the DTDAMP audi inputs Use the back panel female XLR3 cnnectrs t cnnect the balanced analg input signal, typically frm a DTD Cntrller utput. Fr each pair f amplifier channels, a LINK switch n the back panel allws yu t use the same input signal (frm the lwest channel number input XLR3) t fed the tw amplifier channel. This is useful when cnnecting the DTD Cntrller Mn Sub utput t tw amplifiers channels fr example. Frm DTD Output Input Link switch Frm DTD Output Speaker cable chice WARNING! Place the DTDAMP in the audi chain just befre the speakers, typically at the utput f the DTD Cntrller. Up t ten DTDAMP channels can be cnnected in parallel n ne DTD utput. Cnnecting the DTDAMP pwer utputs The DTDAMP uses fur SP4 utputs t cnnect the speakers. The pin ut is the fllwing: Amplifier CH1 utputs n SP4 CH1 1+/1- Amplifier CH2 utputs n SP4 CH2 1+/1- Amplifier CH3 utputs n SP4 CH3 1+/1- Amplifier CH4 utputs n SP4 CH4 1+/1- DTDAMP utputs can be bridged tw by tw. Nte that there is n switch t use the amplifiers in bridge mde, bridge being always available with the fllwing pinut: Amplifier CH1+CH2 (bridge) utputs n SP4 CH1 2+/2- Amplifier CH1+CH2 (bridge) utputs n SP4 CH2 2+/2- Amplifier CH3+CH4 (bridge) utputs n SP4 CH3 2+/2- Amplifier CH3+CH4 (bridge) utputs n SP4 CH4 2+/2- WARNING! Use nly the CH1 input (fr Bridge CH1 + CH2) r CH3 input (fr Bridge CH3 + CH4) and use the crrespnding back panel LINK switch t use the amplifier in bridge mde. Typical installatin fr a turing system (using DTDAMP with a DTD-T) When used with a DTD-T, DTDAMP SP4 utputs are cnnected t the DTD-T back panel SP4, while the DTD-T frnt panel SP4 is cnnected t the speakers and subs. 5 DTDAMP SETUP When used with a DTD-I, DTDAMP SP4 utputs are split int: The DTD-I back panel (Sub sensing cnnectr), t ensure prper feedback f the DTDAMP utput t the Cntrller fr speaker prtectins. The NEXO speakers and subs, as shwn n the picture bellw. Sub R Sub L Main R Main L Please check the speaker impedance befre cnnecting t the DTDAMP. WARNING! The DTDAMP wrks with utput lad dwn t 4 Ohms in fur channels mde r dwn t 8 Ohms in bridge mde. Cnnecting the DTDAMP mains input The DTDAMP can accept nly 100 ~ 120 Vlts Mains r 220 t 240 Vlts Mains, bth 50 t 60 Hz, depending n its internal cnfiguratin. This cnfiguratin is set int the factry and the selected value can be read frm the DTDAMP tp panel sticker. WARNING! Check the lcal mains value and ensure that it fits the need f yur DTDAMP befre cnnecting. Refer t the specificatin page f this dcument t knw the mains pwer requirement f the DTDAMP depending n the DTDAMP mdel and the lad cnnected. The mains cnnectin is dne thrugh a standard IEC-C14 cnnectr. Check that the mains switch is OFF befre cnnecting the mains scket. DTDAMP setup The DTDAMP setup is straightfrward. Once all the wiring has been dne, set the vlume cntrl t the minimum psitin (-infinity) pwer ON the DTD Cntrller and switch the DTDAMP mains switch t the ON psitin. Wait a few secnds that the tw READY indicatrs light up and turn the vlume fr each channel in use t the first as shw bellw. Frnt panel LEDs display 20 LEDs will reprt the status f the DTDAMP t the user. Fr CH1 & CH2 n ne side and CH3 & CH4 n the ther side, tw READY Green LEDs will light nce the channel is ready fr use. Fr CH1 & CH2 n ne side and CH3 & CH4 n the ther side, tw TEMP Yellw LED will : Stay OFF if amplifier heatsink is bellw 75 C. Blink if amplifier reaches 75 C, meaning that the utput level is reduced t prtect the unit. Turn ON if amplifier reaches 85 C, meaning that the utput is muted due t ver temperature. Fr each Channel, three green LEDs indicate the channel level. SIGNAL will light when input signal is fed. -18 db will light when utput level is 18 db frm max. -6 db will light when utput level is 6 db frm max. Fr each Channel, ne PEAK red LED indicates that the maximum utput vltage is reached fr a channel, thus triggering the DTDAMP peak limiter. Maintenance WARNING! Always unplug the DTDAMP frm the mains befre cleaning it. Check regularly the dust level f the air intakes f the DTDAMP. If sme dust is inserted int the cling tunnel f the amplifier, use cmpressed air t remve dust frm the amplifier. The chassis and the frnt panel can be cleaned using a dry clth.
