RF MONO 8.2MHz PCB CONNECTION Please see the last sectin in this dcument. FOREWARDS This user guide cntains basic infrmatin n hw t adjust ur RF Mn Antenna System SP82 and btain its best perfrmance pssible. It is suppsed that the installer is familiar with installing RF EAS systems. Fllw all the rules cmmn t installatins f RF systems, such as wiring, aviding having metal cnstructins clse t the system and ther systems. Realize that the single antenna system is disadvantaged when cmpared with transmitter-receiver 8.2 MHz technlgy. It must transmit and receive alternatively having much less time t detect tags and labels. Sweeping frequencies make it even wrse. 8.2 MHz transmitters cause the system t reduce sensitivity. Therefre, befre yu install a system find ut if there are any 8.2 MHz transmitters in stres nearby and decide whether t use tags r labels accrdingly r install mre systems clser t each ther. We recmmend t test the system perfrmance befre it is installed in rder t avid prblems with intereference. 1. General system features The mn-antenna 8.2 MHz SP82 detects hards tags and sticker paper labels 8.2 MHz. Mre systems can be synchrnized, s wider exits can be prtected. The system was apprved in accrdance t fllwing regulatins: ETS , EN 55022, ETS tests , , , , Technical specificatins Operatin frequency 8.2 MHz ± 7.5 % Pwer supply Standard plug-in 15 V AC Mains vltage 50 Hz (EU) 60 Hz (US/CAN) TEL: FAX: SUPPORT: Page 1 f 15 technical.supprt@amersec.cm

PRE-INSTALLATION Try t avid installing any electrical wiring within 1 m and parallel t the system as well as vertical pwer ples frm flr t ceiling. Avid having tagged merchandise within 1.7 m f the system. When pssible the antenna shuld nt be installed clser than 1 m frm any electrical devices (nen lights, telephnes, cmputers...) The system shuld be installed at least 0.9 m frm the exit dr. This will greatly reduce the pssibility f resnance caused by mving metal dr frames and dr security systems. If the drs swing inward, the dr arc must nt cme clser than 0.3 m frm the antenna. (This applies nly t metal frame drs) Avid installing the system t clse t any TX transmitter f a Tx-Rx system. Reasnable and still acceptible distance is 10 m but we recmmend t perfrm a test because sme Tx-Rx systems are friendlier than thers. If yu install multiple systems in a stre (even tw r three) synchrnize systems using a cable. It will guarantee prblem-free peratin at n extra csts. Adhering t the suggestins listed abve will ensure prblem-free peratin f the system. Cnnectin f pwer supply Lead the pwer supply crd t system and cnnect it n the bard as shwn in the picture belw: Screened cable is nt necessary. BASIC SYSTEM ADJUSTMENT Put the DIP5 n the bard t the psitin OFF (manual sensitivity cntrl). After having the system pwered try t find ut if there is any resnance in the stre. Especially when yu cannt stick t the suggestins listed abve, place the system in a psitin where it shuld be installed and turn the antenna rund. Check the infrmatin LEDs and if there are mre than 4 f them ON the system will detect neither tags nr labels. Yu must reduce sensitivity a bit by turning GAIN2 (n ld bards GAIN3) trimpt anticlckwise, s maximum three LEDs are ON and test the detectin again. If it is nt satisfactry yu will prbably nt be able t install the system. If the LEDs are ON and are blinking fast in regualar intervals the mst likely reasn is that smewhere arund there is a transmitter/receiver system perating n 8.2 MHz frequency. Reductin f sensitivity may help but the detectin will nt be at its maximum. Swing the drs (if the system is being installed clse t it) and check whether they d nt cause alarm. (applies t metal frame drs nly). If s, switch the DIP3 in the psitin ON. System reactin will a bit slwer but still satisfactry. If the system is alarming (cnstant beeping) there is resnance in the stre. Alarming will stp autmatically after abut 30 secnds. First check whether yu have any tags near the antenna. (All LEDs will g n nce tags r labels are t TEL: FAX: SUPPORT: Page 2 f 15 technical.supprt@amersec.cm

clse and the system stps detecting). Then find ut if anther mn-antenna system 8.2 Mhz isn t the cause f the interference. Turn the SYNC buttn and check if sme f the LEDs g ff. This may eliminate interference a bit, especially if the signals causing truble are at regular intervals. (See adjustment and LED indicatin f interference). If yu exclude this it culd be the dr r metal frames r metal bjects, devices, cils f wire etc. that cause the resnance. Earthing metal frames and the dr might help. Finally switch the DIP5 in the psitin ON (autmatic sensitivity cntrl nly bards supplied frm April 2004) Never install the system unless yu have fund the cause f the interference r resnance. Always remember: Cnstant false alarms are never caused by the system itself and the reasn is always external. Shp wner ften claim that they d nt have tags clse t the system but in mst cases they d. If the system is cnstantly alarming, the reasn is always the resnance caused by tags being t clse t the antenna r a metal bject such as a dr frame r any metal cnstructin, r anther system perating n the same frequency. Always cnsult the prprietr f the stre as t the prper lcatin f the system. Never drill hles in the flr befre he r she agrees with it. Try t persuade them that keeping t the basic installatin guidelines is better than slving prblems later n. ADVANCED SYSTEM ADJUSTMENT The systems is pre-set in the factry s apart frm synchrnizatin and sensitivity n ther parameters need t be adjusted. But in special cnditins yu can imprve the system perfrmance. What can be adjusted: Transmitting utput pwer Sweeping frequency Central peratinal frequency Synchrnizatin Receiver sensitivity Output Pwer We recmmend t set this value t the maximum (clckwise) which is the factry default setting. This parameter can be adjusted by the trimpt PWR which is placed under the metal screening but accessible thrugh an pening (n the right in abut the middle next t the SWEEP trimpt). NOTE: The real need f changing the system pwer ccurs nly when riginal antennas are nt used, especially large antennas. Sweeping Frequency Interval We recmmend t set this value t 50 % f respective trimpt range default value - (frm 7.9 t 8.55 MHz is 8 % f center frequency) (the system is wrking frm 7.9 up t 8.55 MHz, if the central frequency is set t 8.2 MHz). This parameter can be set by the trimpt SWEEP placed under the metal screening but accessible thrugh an pening (n the left in abut the middle next t PWR trimpt). Maximum sweep frequency interval will be set clckwise. TEL: FAX: SUPPORT: Page 3 f 15 technical.supprt@amersec.cm

U tp2 [V] RF MONO HIGH FREQUENCY NOTE: Reducing f SWEEP may help t eliminate adverse resnance caused by metal bjects r mains installatin near the system. Als when tags with exact resnance circuit frequency are used, reducing f SWEEP may imprve the system detectin. But n the ther hand the price fr that may be wrse detectin f paper labels. System Sensitivity The system sensitivity can be cntrlled manually r autmatically (systems and bards supplied frm April 2004). Manual cntrl: Switch the DIP5 in the psitin OFF. Turn the trimpt GAIN2 (GAIN3 in the ld versin) t the right (maximum clckwise) and check the infrmatin LEDs. If interference is high (mre than 4 red LEDs are n) reduce the sensitivity a bit. Remember that in evenings the nise level ges up and the system might stp wrking. Therefre it is advisable t reduce the sensitivity s nly 1 r 2 LEDs are n. Autmatic cntrl: Switch DIP5 in psitin ON. It is advisable t test the nise in the manual sensitivity cntrl mde just t check what the maximum system sensitivity will be like. Then turn the trimpt GAIN2 t the maximum (clckwise) and put the DIP 5 in the pstin ON. After a time, 60 secnds r s, the system will adjust the sensitivity t its maximum in particular cnditins. NOTE: If yu have been testing the system detectin fr sme time it will be reduced autmatically. The system is prgrammed t remember tags being clse t the antenna. T avid this reset the system after a time by simply pwering it ff and n again r by pressing the RST buttn. Center Frequency The CENTER frequency is set t 8.2 Mhz. Changing this value may cause wrse detectin f tags and labels. Yu can find an pening in the metal screening n the right f the bard at its bttm. Be carefull, yu will be adjusting a cil cre which is vulnerable t damage. Set the system t shw screen n.2 n the test pint TP2. Cnnect yur scpe t GND and TP2. If there is n 8.2 MHz tag r a label in the detectin area yu shuld get fllwing picture n the screen. n tag detected 3,5 3 2,5 2 1,5 1 0,5 0 0,0000 0,0002 0,0004 0,0006 0,0008 0,0010 0,0012 0,0014 time [s] Apprach an exactly tuned hard tag 8.2 MHz t the system detectin area. Adjust the cil CENTER t get the fllwing picture TEL: FAX: SUPPORT: Page 4 f 15 technical.supprt@amersec.cm

U tp2 [V] RF MONO HIGH FREQUENCY Ntes: The resnance respnse can be seen n the fifth wave peak. Maximum central peratinal frequency is cunterclckwise. Be careful while yu are setting this parameter. Damage f the internal ferrite cil cre will make impssible t set the right value f central frequency. The fllwing screen shts will help yu t set the central frequency. Nte: The resnance respnse can be seen n the sixth peak. System central frequency is 8.1 MHz 3,5 3 2,5 2 1,5 1 0,5 0 0,0000 0,0002 0,0004 0,0006 0,0008 0,0010 0,0012 0,0014 time [s] Nte: The resnance respnse can be seen n the third peak. 6 U tp2 [V] RF MONO HIGH FREQUENCY Synchrnizatin The system derives the synchrnizatin signal frm the mains frequency. That means it will transmitt 50 times (r 60 times) per secnd. Changing SYNC value by turning the SYNC trimpt changes the delay after the pwer supply signal passes the 0 level. (zer delay cunterclckwise, maximum delay clckwise f SYNC trimpt ) This delay enables t set mre systems which wrk nt far frm ne anther, t transmit in different mments, and thus elimininate negative interference. Here is the way hw t find the best synchrnizatin time manually: set the system t shw screen n.5 n the test pint TP2. Cnnect yur scpe t GND and TP2. Yu shuld receive fllwing signal n the scpe. Synchrnizatin settings - the signal n screen n.5 3,5 3,0 2,5 2,0 1,5 1,0 0,5 0,0 0,0000 0,0002 0,0004 0,0006 0,0008 0,0010 0,0012 0,0014 time [s] Yu can see 8 peaks (their magnitudes are arund 3V) that are generated by the system. The area between them is the nise (the nise magnitudes are arund 1V in this case). Adjust the SYNC trimpt in rder t reach the lwest pssible nise signal. Final Pints f System Settings Discnnect the scpe. Reset the system (press the RST buttn) LED s frm upper left crner f the PC bard will display the current nise level The best system sensitivity is set when n LED s (frm the left upper crner f the PC bard) are ON but up t tw r even 3 LEDs being ON may in mst cases be als acceptable. If 4 r mre are ON, we recmmend t reduce the system sensitivity by settings DIP1 t OFF r with the trimpt GAIN3. TEL: FAX: SUPPORT: Page 6 f 15 technical.supprt@amersec.cm

BOARD COMPONENTS 1. RST SWITCH reset f cntrl prgram 2. SCREEN SWITCH when yu cnnect a scpe t test pints TP3 and GND yu may switch screen utputs. Every push causes anther screen t be displayed. (see als LEDs belw) Screen list: 1. input signal 2. filtered input signal 3. resnance clse t the signal (caused by tags, metal cnstructin, lp f wire, etc) 4. resultant input signal 5. signal detectin n each frequency (there are 8 frequencies transmitted) 6. the same as 5 7. nt used 8. nt used When SCREEN 5 is displayed and yu hld the buttn pushed fr at least 5 secnds, the alarm cunter will be reset (set t 0) 3. SYNC Trimpt - when mre systems are installed in a stre yu may use it t synchrnize them. This trimpt will serve t setting each system fr a different mment t transmit s they dn t interfere. Just by turning it t anther psitin. When individual synchrnizatin is used this trimpt will set the system t an individual frequency f transmitting. That desn t mean 8.2 Mhz r s but hw many times the transceiver will transmit per secnd. Values are in the range per secnd. Recmmended fr tw systems nly. 8 4. S.TIME Trimpt - setting f alarm sund time S.RPT Trimpt - setting f beep frequency (sund repeat) L.TIME Trimpt - setting f alarm light time 5. GAIN 2 (r GAIN 3 in ld systems) Trimpt Sensitivity adjustment - nly GAIN2 (GAIN3) is used in SP VOLUME Trimpt (beeper) sund vlume 7. SWEEP Trimpt placed under the screening (metal cver) placed n the right side f the bard. There are tw penings. The left ne f the tw is SWEEP adjustment. Maximum is set clckwise. Best results are mstly achieved having SWEEP set t 50% f the range. 8. TC Trimpt utput pwer setting. Make a wire lp and cnnect it t a scpe. Then place it clse t the antenna and watch the signal. By turnig TC yu may adjust the highest signal fr the best perfrmance. Recmmended when nt riginal antenna is used. The secnd pening n the right is POWER setting. 9. LEDs 1-8 Indicatin f all these LEDs differs and depends n which utput SCREEN is set. (see abve). Yu may use LED indicatin instead f a scpe. It is nt as exact but still it can give yu invaluable infrmatin. Press the SCREEN buttn and while yu hlding it pressed yu can see the measured signal number crrespnding t the list belw. When yu release it yu can see the values measured as they g n and ff. Number f LEDs being ON simulates the level f a particular signal utput. 1. input signal (default after pwering the system n) 2. filtered input signal 3. level f resnance caused by tags, metal cnstructin, lps f wire, etc 4. resultant input signal 5. signal detectin n each frequency (there are 8 frequencies transmitted) 6. the same as nt yet used 8. indicatin f sensitivity level reductin in autmatic regime (DIP 5 ON). Example: 6 LEDs ON 80% f maximum r reductin by 20% 10. LED PWR indicates pwer. If it is nt ON the system is nt pwered. 11. EXT SYNC indicates presence f external synchrnizatin signal 12. DIP SWITCHES: Dip switch DIP1 DIP2 DIP3 Descriptin OFF synchrnizatin is derived frm mains ON.individual synchrnizatin (may be set by turning the SYNC trimpt) used nly when mre systems than 5 are synchrnized Prtectin against interference ON nrmal sensitivity standard resistance against interference (default - nrmal cnditins) OFF lwer sensitivity but mre immune against interference TEL: FAX: SUPPORT: Page 8 f 15 technical.supprt@amersec.cm

DIP4 DIP5 DIP6 DIP7 DIP8 Setting f label prtective mde ON the system will reduce utput pwer nce it has detected a label. Thus it cannt be deactivated by the system (as a result f this the sensitivity level is lwer and reactin a bit slwer ) OFF utput pwer is stable (default setting) Sensitivity cntrl: OFF the sensitivity is cntrlled manually (trimpt GAIN2) ON the sensitivity is cntrlled autmatically by the micrprcessr. Nte: If the switch 5 is in psitin ON autmatic sensitivity cntrl - the maximum sensitivity is achieved nly when the trimpt GAIN2 is put in maximum psitin (clckwise). Setting f cmpatibility with the hardware versin 2.0, sftware versin 1.42 and earlier. ON the system sends synchrnizatin pulses t the DEAC terminal blck in rder t cntrl deactivatr peratinal time. The system is nt cmpatible with the previus hardware and sftware versins OFF the system desn t send synchrnizatin pulses t the DEAC terminal fr the cntrlling f deactivatr peratinal time. The system is cmpatible with all previus versins f hardware and sftware Additinal sensitivity setting: OFF the system sensitivity is lwer ON the system sensitivity is higher Switches the system frm master t slave regime (nly sftware versin 1.56 and higher ) Psitins: ON=master, OFF=slave (after switching int anther psitin press the RST buttn r discnnect and cnnect pwer supply) 13. IN SYNC OUT terminal blck synchrnizatin signal utput SYNCHRONIZATION 1. Individual synchrnizatin is recmmended fr 2 systems nly. Switch DIP 1 t the psitin ON and set the frequency f individual transmitting by SYNC. (But still rather use the synchrnizatin derived frm the mains) 2. Synchrnizatin derived frm the mains frequency Usable fr up t 4 systems in a stre. N wire cnnectin necessary. By turning SYNC trimpt yu can adjust a mment f transmissin in each system. These mments must differ, therwise the systems will affect ne anther. LED indicatin will shw yu if there is any interference caused by ther systems. Yu may use an scillscpe but the LED indicatin will d in mst cases. 3. Synchrnizatin using a cable (master-slave methd) Up t 25 systems can be synchrnized when master - slave methd is used. A) sftware versins up t 1.53 (check label n the micrprcessr chip) 1. A system must be defined as a MASTER and usually it is the ne which is the nearest t the pwer supply TEL: FAX: SUPPORT: Page 9 f 15 technical.supprt@amersec.cm

2. Lead a simple synchrnizatin cable frm the terminal blck SYNC OUT t the next system and cnnect it t SYNC IN 3. If cnnected prperly the EXT SYNC LED n slave antenna bards must be ON. If nt s, interchange wires f the synchrnizatin cable. The LED is ON nly when the master system is pwered!!! 4. Lead a cable frm SYNC OUT f the slave system t the next ne and d the same fr all the systems yu need t synchrnize. 5. When all systems are pwered n LEDs EXT SYNC must be ON in thse systems that detect synchrnizatin signal. That means all systems except fr the master. 6. If mre than 5 systems are synchrnized (by means f a synchrnizatin cable), every 5 th ne must have its DIP 2 set in the psitin ON. Nte: When yu are ging t install mre than 5 systems, we recmmend t cntact us and we will send yu a plan hw t d the switching. B) sftware versin 1.56 and higher (check label n the micrprcessr chip) 1. A system must be defined as a MASTER and usually it is the ne which is the nearest t the pwer supply. Its DIP 8 must be in the psitin ON (default). 2. Lead a simple synchrnizatin cable frm the terminal blck SYNC OUT t the next system and cnnect it t its SYNC IN input 3. Put the DIP 8 f the designated SLAVE system in psitin OFF and reset the system by pressing the RST buttn 4. If cnnected prperly the EXT SYNC LED n slave antenna bards must be ON. If nt s, interchange wires f the synchrnizatin cable. The LED is ON nly when the master system is pwered!!! 5. Lead a cable frm SYNC OUT f the slave system t the next ne and d the same with all the systems yu need t synchrnize. All slaves must have their DIP 8 in psitin OFF 6. If mre than 5 systems are synchrnized (by means f a synchrnizatin cable), every 5 th ne must have its DIP 2 set in psitin ON. Nte: When yu are ging t install mre than 5 systems, we recmmend t cntact us and we will send yu a plan hw t d the switching. 4. Synchrnizatin with a deactivatr The SP82 mn-antenna system and deactivatr are bth electrnic devices transmitting pulses. T avid adverse affects f the deactivatr (false alarms) bth f them r all must transmit at different mments. If an individual system is used it is easy just by turning the SYNC trimpt n the system bard (r in the deactivatr). Als when tw r three systems are installed this methd gives usually satisfactry results. But fr installatins in supermarkets this methd is nt sufficient. American Security currently supplies a new versin f SP82 bard that enables t synchnize each individual system with its wn deactivatr. Please, check yur sftware versin n the system prcessr. If it is 1.52 and higher yu can use this new methd f synchrnizatin. The deactivatr must be versins 7.5, r 7.3/HS r higher. Cnnect the terminal blck DEACT n the SP82 bard with the SYNC IN terminal n the side f the deactivatr Check if the LED LF n the deactivatr bard is ON. If nt s, interchange the cable wires. Set the DIP6 n the SP82 bard t the psitin ON. If there are mre systems in a rw synchrnized by a cable all must have DIP6 in the psitins ON Put the DIP3 n the deactivatr bard t the psitin ON and turn the trimpt SYNC (deactivatr) t the left. (maximum anti-clckwise) Remark: In this regime deactivatrs with the versin 7.3/HS cannt be switched t s called prtective mde!!! (see ur manual fr Deactivatr fr paper labels) TEL: FAX: SUPPORT: Page 10 f 15 technical.supprt@amersec.cm

TROUBLESHOOTING 1. The system des nt wrk at all Check the sftware versin n the sticker label stuck n the prcessr chip. Versin 1.56 and 1.57 require manual switching the system int the slave regime. The slave regime is necessary in multi-system installatins and the system switched t slave will nly wrk when at its SYNC IN input is a signal frm a master system. Check DIP switch 8 and here are the psitins: ON=master, OFF=slave. That means if a system is set t the slave regime it cannt wrk alne and in such a case has n detectin. Switch it t master by putting DIP 8 in ON and it will wrk. 2. Cntrl LEDs are blinking fast changing light intensity frm left t right and the system desn't detect tags and labels Reasn: an 8.2 MHz transmitter f a RF tw-antenna system is installed near yur mn 8.2 MHz system. Such a transmitter causes a high-level f nise and may cause a substantial reductin f the mn 8.2 system sensivity. Just switch the system t the autmatic sensitivity cntrl regime ( DIP 5 ON) and test its detectin. If it is nt satisfactry and yu cannt get better results there is n effective prtectin against it. 3. Tuching prblem- when yu tuch the metal antenna with yur hand an alarm ges ff. The reasn: there is a resnance circuit made by a wire r a cable r a metal bject near the system but its level f resnance is belw the system detectin limit. It is usually very difficult t find it. First try t put the DIP 3 in the psitin OFF. If it des nt help switch the system t the manual sensitivity cntrl regime (DIP 5 ff) and reduce the system sensitivity turning slightly the GAIN2 trimpt until this prblem stps. Then switch the system back t the autmatic regime. The detectin will g dwn a bit, but in mst cases it is still satisfactry. In the autmatic sensitivity cntrl regime the maximum sensitivity that can be achieved (if the nise level is lw) is set manually by the GAIN2 trimpt. When yu press SCREEN buttn repeatedly s the 8 th LED shws screen 8 the number f LEDS being ON indicates the level f sensivity reductin. Fr example all 8 LEDs ON means n reductin and 4 LEDs 50%. But dn't frget that even n reductin may mean lwer than maximum sensitivity if GAIN2 trimpt is nt set at its maximum (clckwise). 4. Frequent false alarms appear, the detectin is almst gd. First check the infrmatin LEDs and check whether they are stable (nt blinking fast). If s, turn the SYNC trimpt s the LEDs are stable. The cause was anther pulse system 8.2 MHz r a deactivatr. 5. Ocassinal false alarm appear, the system detectin is gd. Such alarms are usually caused by freign signals r by metal drs that swing r pen and clse autmatically. First try t turm the SYNC trimpt t anther psitin. If it desn't help, put the DIP 3 in the psitin OFF and if the prblem persists, put the DIP 1 in the psitin ON and turn the SYNC trimpt and try t find its best psitin t eliminate the false alarms. If nthing helps there must be a strng resnance caused by a metal bject, dr frame r cil f a cable. 6. Master slave system des nt wrk even thugh the synchrnizing cable is cnnected well. Yu have prbably pwered a slave system befre its master. Each slave system will be autmatically set t the slave regime nly when its master system is pwered.(sftware versin 1.53 and lwer) S pwer all the systems at the same time r frm the master t the next slave and finally pwer the last slave in the rw. (r press their RST buttns). 7. Labels are deactivated when they are near the system Use labels frm anther manufacturer r supplied by us r put the DIP 4 in the psitin ON. The system will reduce its pwer nce it has detected a label and it cannt be deactivated. But the system reactin will be a bit slwer and detectin distance may be reduced.
