1 Lightning By Audi Flux Bender Equalizer Users Guide 2014 Revised 2015 Cngratulatins n an excellent purchase! This guide was put tgether t help yu get the mst ut f yur investment. Please read this thrughly befre using the Flux Bender and keep it handy fr future reference.

2 The Flux Bender is similar in peratin t the legendary Pultec EQP- 1A prgram equalizer, althugh it is quite a bit different verall. Bth devices are Prgram equalizers with similar bass and treble bst/cut cntrls. A majr difference is hw the bass bst/cut sectin and treble bst/cut sectin are separated fr independent manipulatin in the Flux Bender. With the classic EQP- 1A, ne frequency selectr was used t select the pint fr the bst and cut cntrls. In the Flux Bender there are separate frequency selectrs that have sme verlapping pints and sme very different pints. Further unlike the EQP- 1A, the Flux Bender is stere, mre transparent sunding, presents a drastically lwer nise flr, ffers mre frequency chices, and has the ability t adjust the utput level, making it a superir chice fr Mastering r Mix Bus applicatins. Getting Started: Carefully unpack the Flux Bender and its external pwer supply, the Juice Bx. Be aware that there is glass in the package, s prceed with cautin. Yu will find 4 metal tube shields, and small bxes cntaining the vacuum tubes. Carefully remve the vacuum tubes frm their bxes. Align the pins f the vacuum tubes with their respective sckets n the back f the Flux Bender and insert them int their respective sckets. Take extra care t make sure the pins are aligned with the hles in the sckets as t prevent accidental bending f the pins, which culd damage the vacuum tubes. Shuld the tube pins accidentally becme bent, they can be straightened by squeezing them straight between the flat surface f needle nse pliers, althugh it s best t try t avid bending the pins in the first place. Next, the tube shields will need t be attached. Slide them ver their respective vacuum tubes and rtate int their lcked psitin. There are little nubs n the tube sckets t lck the shields in place. Once racked up, cnnect the pwer tether frm the Flux Bender t the Juice Bx pwer supply. Cnnect an IEC pwer cable frm the Juice Bx t an available electrical utlet. Please nte, the best nise perfrmance will ccur when the Juice Bx is a least a cuple feet away frm the Flux Bender, but greater distances are nt a bad idea. Pwering Up: The pwer switch is lcated externally, n the included Juice Bx. Once engaged, the purple jewel lamp n the Juice Bx will light up, indicating pwer n. It will take abut secnds fr the Flux Bender s frnt panel jewel lamp t turn n. When the Flux Bender s frnt panel light turns n, the tubes have warmed up enugh t pass audi. While the Flux Bender will start wrking within 30 secnds, it will require at least 15 minutes f warm up time t sund its best. T pwer dwn, just turn ff the pwer at the Juice Bx. Nthing fancy here.

3 Cntrls: One set f EQ cntrls t adjust Left/Right simultaneusly with superb stere tracking and zer crsstalk. Filter caps and resistrs matched t.01% tlerance fr abslute perfectin. Lw Shelf Bst with 6 selectable frequencies (5dB/ctave slpe): 35Hz, 65Hz, 80Hz, 110Hz, 160Hz, 220Hz Lw Shelf Cut with 6 selectable frequencies (5dB/ctave slpe): 35Hz, 100Hz, 200Hz, 320Hz, 380Hz, 470Hz High Shelf Cut with 6 selectable frequencies (5dB/ctave slpe): 3.5kHz, 5kHz, 6.8kHz, 10kHz, 22kHz, 25kHz High Bell Bst with 6 selectable frequencies & "Flux Interactin" cntrl (variable bandwidth): 4kHz, 4.8kHz, 5.2kHz, 11kHz, 15kHz, 22kHz. Bandwidth variable frm 4dB/ctave t 12dB/ctave. Maximum bst f 12dB/ctave r maximum bst f 4dB/ctave. Independent Left/Right utput vlume cntrls, which are capable f prviding 8dB f clean bst abve input level. Active/Bypass switch switches equalizer in and ut withut clicks r changes in level. The Bypass is a buffered bypass, meaning when bypassed the audi is still passing thrugh the amplifier circuitry and transfrmers. Bypassing Specific Bands: Technically, it is nt actually pssible t bypass a band. Hwever, there is a way t trick yur ear int thinking a band is bypassed. Fr example, when yu have the high shelf cut frequency set t 5K and its level turned dwn all the way, but the high bell bst set at an almst inaudible frequency (ie. 22KHz) and bsted, yu will create a srt f scped high frequency sectin, thus making it seem mid frward. Yu can easily remedy this by changing the high shelf cut t 25KHz. This will be almst the same as remving it frm the circuit. S, just because the knbs are turned dwn all the way des nt mean they are ding nthing. There is still smething ging n when the knbs are dwn all the way. The best way t remve a band is t set it t 0, but t als set the cntrl t a barely audible frequency band. Fr example, t bypass the lw shelf

4 cut, set it t 35Hz, but als turn the knb t 0. T bypass the high shelf cut, set it t 0 and t 25KHz. Technical Infrmatin: Input Impedance: 600 hms Output Impedance: 600 hms Balanced +4dBu XLR inputs and utputs Tube cmpliment: Matched and Balanced pair f crygenically treated New- Old- Stck 12AT7 twin trides, matched pair f cry- treated NOS 6X4 rectifier tubes, pair f NE- 2 vltage regulatr tubes..75a slw blw fuse 120v 60Hz peratin, unless rdered therwise. Warnings: DO NOT TAKE THE COVER OFF Risk f extremely permanent Death! High vltages are stred inside the capacitrs in the Flux Bender and they can hld very dangerus charges fr many days withut being pwered up. Servicing/Questins: Vacuum tubes, pwer capacitrs and incandescent bulbs are the nly cmpnents that can wear ut ver time and may need t be replaced. It is unlikely the vacuum tubes will fail anytime within the first 10 years f wnership due t their premium vintage build quality and mdern crygenic treatment. The tw can caps n the backside f the Flux Bender shuld be replaced after years f service. The nly incandescent bulb n the Flux Bender is actually lcated n the Juice Bx pwer supply. If this indicatr lamp blws ut, it will nt affect the peratin f the Equalizer. Replacement bulbs can be rder directly frm Lightning By Audi r any number f electrnic parts stres. If in the unlikely event yur Flux Bender is nt functining prperly and needs t be serviced during the warranty perid, yu will need t send it back t Lightning By Audi fr Servicing.
