OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIERS Objectives The gal f this experiment is t study peratinal amplifier (p amp) and its applicatins in alternative current cnditins. Sme basic p amp circuits, including the mst cmmn types, i.e., the inverting, nn inverting, integratr and differentiatr will be intrduced, simulated and applied n a bard. Intrductin Please read the intrductin part f the previus experiment (Op-amp experiment I), it is als available fr this experiment. Equipment Breadbard Cables & Wires and cnnectrs Operatinal Amplifier Digital Oscillscpe, Multimeter Signal Generatr, DC Pwer Supply, Resistrs Preliminary wrk (Calculatin and simulatin sectin) 1) Derive the gain (Vut/Vin) expressin in terms f R 1, and C fr the fllwing amplifiers. R 1 C - Vcc Figure 1. View f a derivatr

2) Shw the relatin f utput and input vltage f the fllwing circuit (Integratin) Figure 2. View f an integratr amplifier 3) Simulate the circuit f Figure 3, Figure 4, and Figure 6 recrd all the vltage and current values in a table. Experiment Inverting Op-amp R 1 - Vcc Figure 3. View f an integratr As mentined in the previus experiment, the p-amp must be cnnected t an external pwer supply. Since we want t prduce bth psitive and negative utput vltages, we need bth psitive and negative vltages fr the pwer supply. Fr a ua741 peratinal amplifier, the nminal values are 15V fr psitive supply and -15V fr negative supply. Cnstruct the circuit with R 1=10K and =100K values as shwn in Figure 3. Cnnect the functin generatr utput t f the circuit given in Figure 3. Turn n the functin generatr and apply a prper sinusidal signal t. Observe the utput frm the scpe. Nte that, the utput signal must nt be clipped. Change the value fr 68K, 39K, and 10K. Fr each step write dwn the utput vltage and

gain. (T change its value discnnect the frm the circuit and then d yur measurement). Fr each step save the snapsht f the scillscpe which includes and. Nn-inverting Op-amp Nn-inverting (psitive gain) circuit cnfiguratin is shwn in Figure 4. The vltage gain f the nninverting amplifier circuit is btained as belw; V V ut in R 1 R 2 1 R 1 - Vcc Figure 4. View f an nn-inverting amplifier Cnnect the circuit under test accrding t the Figure 4. Change the value as dne befre in the previus experiment and write dwn the results. At the end f yur experiment plt the gain- graph and cmpare it with the ideal ne. Differentiatr and Integratr By intrducing electrical reactance int the feedback lps f p-amp amplifier circuits, we can cause the utput t respnd t changes in the input vltage ver time. Deriving their names frm their respective calculus functins, the integratr prduces a vltage utput prprtinal t the prduct (multiplicatin) f the input vltage and time; and the differentiatr (nt t be cnfused with differential) prduces a vltage utput prprtinal t the input vltage's rate f change. In Figure 5 and Figure 6, integratr and differentiatr circuits are given respectively. The utput vltage f an integratr is given in the fllwing equatin. 1 V V dt V in ( t 0) RC in

C 1 R in - Vcc Figure 5. View f an integratr On a separate piece f paper, sketch the integral f the fllwing wavefrms: a) Sinusidal wavefrm b) Triangular wavefrm c) Square wavefrm Cnnect the integratr shwn in Figure 5. Please, use the fllwing values fr the cmpnents and vltages =4.7 kω, R in=47kω, C=0.1µF, Set the functin generatr t prvide the fllwing input signals: A. Vin=1.5 VPP, 2 KHz, sin wave B. Vin=1.5 VPP, 2KHz, square wave, C. Vin=1.5 VPP, 2 KHz, triangular wave Turn n the utput f the pwer supply t prvide the 15 V and -15 V t the Op Amp. Cnnect the signal generatr t the input terminal f yur integratr. Measure the vltage and frequency f the utput wavefrms. Repeat this fr each f the inputs and recrd these values in the Table and save snapshts f with the crrespnding input fr each f the three cases. Wavefrm, Frequency

Differentiatr t Suppse that, a sine functin sin( ) will be the derivative f this functin, which is is applied t the input f a differentiatr. In this case, the utput.cs( t). S, when the input frequency is increased, the gain f this circuit als increases. But please nte that, the p-amp will nt perate prperly after a certain frequency value. R in C - Vcc Figure 6. View f a differentiatr V dv 1 R2C dt In sme applicatins, it may be pssible t add a series input resistr, as shwn in Figure 6. This limits the high frequency gain f the circuit t the rati R/R in. The lw frequency cutff is set by and C. The high frequency cutff is determined by R in and C, accrding t the expressin: f 1/ 2 R C. c in Experiment: Cnstruct the differentiatr amplifier with the circuit elements as given in Figure 6. SET1= R in=47ω, =1KΩ, C=0.1 µf. SET2= R in=470ω, =10KΩ, C=22 nf. What are the high frequency and lw frequency cutff f differentiatr amplifier with Set1 and Set2 circuit elements? Please verify theretically! Apply an asymmetric triangle wave with prper amplitude and frequency t the input f the circuit. Use the functin generatr t set t a 1 V peak-t-peak triangle wave. Using bth channels f the scillscpe, bserve and recrd the relatinship between input and utput fr input frequencies f

500 Hz and 1kHz. Cmpare the results with what yu btain by theretically. Repeat the experiment using a sine-wave input signal. Please be sure t nte the phase relatinship between input and utput. Recrd the input and utput signals f the circuit. Reprt Instructins Besides the general guidelines, reprt the fllwing fr this lab: The lab reprt shuld be segmented int 3 parts: Inverting amplifier Nn-inverting amplifier Differentiatr amplifier Each part shuld be cmprised f the circuit design with LTspice Capture and the simulated vltages at each nde as well as the clsed-lp gain, the analytical equatin fr each amplifier and the calculated utput vltage and gain, the experimental vltage readut with a descriptin f the experimental prcedure, a table f all three values fr the p-amp terminal vltages: frm simulatin, thery, and experiment, a table f all three values fr the clsed-lp p-amp gain seen by V 3: frm simulatin, thery, and experiment, and yur explanatin f the variatins between the three values f the last tw steps. Answer the questins in the Analysis sectin References
